Help me choose what movie to watch next! I'm wanting to do a comedy now because our next poll will feature some MUCH heavier movies. :)

Happy Tuesday, Addie! 😊 All great movie choices. However, "Happy Gilmore" 100% got my vote for this one. That's one of my favorite Adam Sandler movies. Have a great day today! 😊

true lies is an absolute banger. (also it’s on peacock, apple tv, amazon, paramount)

Brian Leonard

Beverly Hill Cop for sure. I used to like Happy Gilmore, but I won't watch it anymore.

2026-10-13 17:00 Speaking of Don Simpson & Jerry Bruckheimer, the producers of Beverly Hills Cop (1984) & Top Gun (1986), I also suggest Flashdance (1983), Bad Boys (1995, directed by Michael Bay), Days of Thunder (1990), Crimson Tide (1995) (both DoT & CT are directed by Tony Scott), Dangerous Minds (1995) & The Rock (1996, also directed by Michael Bay) #MoreDonSimpsonAndJerryBruckheimerForAddieCounts

Anchorman is outrageously funny. Some surprising performances in it, too

Phil Stubblefield

This is so not a contest. One of these movies is head-and-shoulders above the rest: Beverly Hills Cop! 👍👍

Luis Fernandez

I'm a fan of all of these, but I'm going with Anchorman just because I think it may yield the best reaction.

Thomas Yanez

Hey, look at that, it is free on Peacock (only one I checked). I thought it was still in that weird licensing/streaming/whatever Hollywood bullshit that still keeps us from streaming other movies, like "The Abyss".

Byrd N. Hand

Adam Sandler and Will Ferrell vehicles tend to be too broad/lowbrow/stupid (take your pick) for my tastes. Their best respective works are still "Punch-Drunk Love" and "Stranger Than Fiction," IMO. And I honestly feel Eddie Murphy is better when he's counterbalanced by another actor, à la Nick Nolte in "48 Hours," Dan Aykroyd in "Trading Places," or Mike Myers in the "Shrek" movies. That leaves "The Big Lebowski" as my default pick, even though I think it's probably the Coen Brothers' most overrated film. Of course, given that Addie has shown to not be much of a laugher, perhaps it's a moot point all around.

Alex Tan

My favorite Coen Bros. movie is Hail Caesar! (2016).

Alex Tan

Who knows, I think Addie will get a very good laugh from Beverly Hills Cop (1984), Happy Gilmore (1996) & Anchorman (2004). I (like most people I know) usually prefer Eddie Murphy, Adam Sandler & Will Ferrell in the comedy route. And Adam Sandler's most respective work is Uncut Gems (2019).

Byrd N. Hand

Not to mention "Commando," "The Running Man," and "Total Recall" -- along with T3 as well, those are the only other Arnie action movies that are genuinely worth seeing. As far as James Cameron goes, I'll add "The Abyss" as well.

Alex Tan

Let's make Happy Gilmore (1996) & Beverly Hills Cop (1984) tie each other so that Addie watches both of them.

Randee Carreno

I second that for the Bad Boys trilogy, Money Talks, and Nothing to Lose.

Alex Tan

Who knows, maybe Addie would enjoy it. Even True Grit (2010).

Shawn E Mercado

I am actually just shocked Beverly HIlls Cop is beating any of the other three. Not that it's bad, quality wise it's as good as the others. But those other ones are like universally cited as favorite comedies among the internet generation(s).

Alex Tan

Same here, Randee. The Bad Boys trilogy is definitely a franchise that Addie would love. And Byrd N. Hand, I think Denzel has been in very interesting roles. This is why I've been suggesting Crimson Tide (1995), Man on Fire (2004), Deja Vu (2006), The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 (2009), and Unstoppable (2010) to Addie. They're all directed by Tony Scott (Top Gun). Other DW movies I would also suggest to her are Cry Freedom (1987), Courage Under Fire (1996), The Siege (1998), Remember The Titans (2000), Training Day (2001), The Equalizer (2014), The Equalizer 2 (2018), The Equalizer 3 (2023, upcoming), The Magnificent Seven (2016), and The Little Things (2021). #MoreDenzelWashingtonForAddieCounts

Mr. Writhms

"We'll, that's just, like, your opinion, man..."

Lance Li

Do people seriously leave that one out because they think Addie would be somewhat alienated by it?

Byrd N. Hand

More than just the scattered light chuckles we got from her in "WALL-E," "Airplane!," "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," and the 2 Monty Python movies? It's a shame those aren't movies that interest me, if that's the case. 🤷‍♂

Byrd N. Hand

I'm intrigued as to what the 'heavier' movies in the next poll will be. "Seven," "American History X," "Requiem for a Dream," and "No Country for Old Men"? 😏

Alex Tan

I'd vote for Se7en (1995) if it's ever on that poll. But I think it's gonna be some more depressing movies that'll make Addie cry.

Byrd N. Hand

I hope it's not just a bunch of war movies, since I feel heaviness and war movies pretty much go without saying; heavier subject matter in everyday life (as in the 4 movies I mentioned above) is far more devastating, IMO. Again, I'm hoping Addie starts stepping out of her comfort zone a bit more in coming months and takes on movies she never would've watched otherwise. She's previously mentioned interest in the "Godfather" trilogy, and I feel that would be a good starting point for her.

Byrd N. Hand

I know Cinema Rules, Blueberry Void, and OctoKrool have reacted to it, at the very least.

Alex Tan

I would love to see her watch the entire Godfather trilogy, with The Godfather (1972), The Godfather: Part II (1974) and a newly recut version of The Godfather Part III (1990) called The Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone (2020), soon.

Alex Tan

Being a junkie for action & adrenaline, action thrillers are the kind of movies that I'm also trying to get Addie to watch more of. So far, she has seen the Die Hard trilogy and the first three Daniel Craig James Bond movies. Alongside the aforementioned Denzel Washington movies, I would love to see her get into more straightforward pure action movies like Black Rain (1989), Speed (1994), The Rock (1996), Con Air (1997), The Peacemaker (1997), The Jackal (1997), Armageddon (1998), Ronin (1998), Enemy of the State (1998), Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000), The Italian Job (2003), White House Down (2013), The 355 (2022) & Ambulance (2022), as well as The Fast and the Furious & Bourne franchises.

Ben

Oh i hope its american history x, that film never ceases to blow me away. So powerful

Alex Tan

And if it's a war movie poll, I do hope we get Pearl Harbor (2001), Hacksaw Ridge (2016), Dunkirk (2017) & 1917 (2019).
