Happy Sunday, Addie. Total Recall (1990) is one of my favorite Arnold Schwarzenegger movies and one of my favorite movies that was directed by Paul Verhoeven. I even enjoyed this funny, yet brutal, sci-fi action film.

Alex Tan

Speaking of Paul Verhoeven, I also suggest Flesh & Blood (1985), RoboCop (1987), Basic Instinct (1992, UNRATED DIRECTOR'S CUT), Starship Troopers (1997) and Hollow Man (2000, UNRATED DIRECTOR'S CUT). #MorePaulVerhoevenForAddieCounts

Speaking of Sharon Stone, I also suggest Basic Instinct (1992, UNRATED DIRECTOR'S CUT), Casino (1995) & The Mighty (1998). Speaking of Rachel Ticotin, I also suggest Falling Down (1993), Con Air (1997, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer) & Man on Fire (2004, directed by Tony Scott).

Happy Sunday, Addie! 😊 This is a great Sunday surprise! This is one of my favorite Arnold Schwarzenegger, and one of my favorite sci-fi movies. I keep forgetting that Michael Ironside, who plays Richter, is in this movie and that he's a bad guy. Definitely looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. For some 80s sci-fi, and to see more of Michael Ironside I VERY HIGHLY recommend the 2-part 1983 mini-series "V: The Original Mini-Series" and the 3-part 1984 follow up "V:The Final Battle". Have a great day today! 😊

Alex Tan

Michael Ironside was also Jester in Top Gun (1986).

Randee Carreno

I did remember that he was in the first "Top Gun" movie. And that he's in "Starship Troopers" which I saw that you just got through recommending to Addie. 😊

Alex Tan

Yep. And I also suggested The Mighty (1998) to Addie, since it also has Sharon Stone in it. However, that movie's gonna make her cry so hopefully she has tissues ready.

Damn, a Sunday upload? My day is no longer boring!

Luis Fernandez

Ironside was also in Scanners (1981), which I would recommend Addie never watch, but it is great fun if you enjoy that sort of film. Saw it as a kid, my first Cronenburg movie, and it scarred me for life. Loved it!!!

"...Get your ass to Mars...Get your ass to Mars...Get your ass to Mars...Get your ass to Mars..." As cheesy as this movie is--or maybe even because of how cheesy it is--I still kind of love it. And Paul Verhoeven sure likes his blood squibs.

I’m so glad you enjoyed this one! The prosthetic make-up effects are what really made this movie so awesome. Practical effects genius ROB BOTTIN was responsible. You saw a little of what he could do in “SE7EN”. If you get up the nerve to watch "THE THING" (1982) you will see how much he astounded us horror fans with mechanical monster effects that will blow you away. Oh and your mention of how certain aspects of this movie reminded you of “The Matrix”... Will you ever complete the trilogy? (Please?) 🤓

"Total Recall" was an adaptation of a Philip K. Dick novel or short story, as was Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner" (1982). My favorite adaptation was Steven Spielberg's "Minority Report" (2002) and is one that holds up very well today.

Andre Agog

Really glad you liked this one. I'm a huge Verhoeven fan.

Mr. Writhms

"A Scanner Darkly" was a good one. Very trippy...

Thomas Yanez

I'm still waiting for the big-budget, summer blockbuster adaptation of PKD's "Galactic Pot-Healer".

Reactors always like Benny until they don't.

Rob Bottin also did the makeup effects for Legend (1985), The Witches of Eastwick (1987), Innerspace (1987), RoboCop (1987), The Great Outdoors (1988), Bugsy (1991), Basic Instinct (1992), Mission: Impossible (1996), Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998), Fight Club (1999), Charlie's Angels (2000) & Mr. Deeds (2002).

Andrew Roach

Now you need to see Arnold's other benchmark movie True Lies directed by James Cameron just before he did Titanic. Unrelated to this but Tom Cruise's Edge of Tomorrow is a sci fi gem.

"True Lies" did initially win this poll, but is now suddenly currently unavailable for streaming, for some reason, which is why she did this runner-up instead. I'm sure she'll watch it as soon as it becomes available again.

True Lies is free on Prime Video with a subscription to STARZ.

In case you didn't know... "Minority Report" was based on a novel by the late great Phillip K. Dick. The same guy that wrote "Total Recall" and "Blade Runner". There are at least 10 or 20 sci-fi movies out based on his writings. "A Scanner Darkly" is another good one, a little trippy though.
