Let's watch a comedy together! Help me decide what to watch next!

Hitchhiker's guide isn't comedy. It's life and death.

Randee Carreno

Happy Thursday, Addie! 😊 All fantastic comedy movie choices. I ended up voting for "The Big Lebowski". Although, whichever movie wins will be a great pick. Have a great day today! 😊

Cole Jennett

If you end up doing another comedy poll in the future, I hope Grumpy Old Men will be the next movie added😊

carbsix

Meh.... what u need is We're The Millers, RED (2010), The Bucket List, Down Periscope, Galaxy Quest, Wild Hogs

Mr. Writhms

Putting "Tropic Thunder" in the poll is almost unfair to the others. Haha... What a hilarious flick! Can't wait for this ADDIE-tion. 😁

Eddie

Tropic Thunder is a movie that needs to die. I saw it when it came out, I get what they were doing with blackface. It had funny moments but it's still cringy in blackface moments. Even the actual black actor, Brandon, go fed up with RDJ off stage but he channeled it into the movie. Back then it racist to people of color, and it's still racist now. It doesn't seem like any of them are racist in real life, but please just leave this movie to die out.

Fawks

Big Lebowski is a legitimately great film with an amazing screenplay. But I'd be lying if I said Tropic Thunder wasn't one of the funniest movies I've seen.

Fawks

Are you a person of color? Hope that's ok to ask, just genuinely wanted to know your experience with this film if so.

Alex Tan

Happy Thursday, Addie. All choices are great but I think you'll love Billy Madison (1995) with Adam Sandler. #BillyMadisonForAddieCounts I'm down for whatever wins.

Alex Tan

...and Mr. Deeds (2002).

PHILLIP CORNISH

I must be missing something i only know one film. Where do these lists come from? 😘 No vote, Enjoy all.

Richard Maurer

I'm not even a huge fan of this film, but censoring it even when everyone knows what this movie was doing is ridiculous. The fact that this film makes people uncomfortable is the very reason it should not be "cancelled" - art SHOULD challenge people. You say that you "get what they were doing", yet you still want it cancelled? If we're getting so sensitive that we can't even handle art that's not racist but instead points out racism, that sounds more like a problem with our society rather than the film. You actually made me change my vote - to Tropic Thunder.

QuiGon_Jim

I mean, its a list of some of the biggest, most well known comedies of the past 30 years...

LightsCameraJake

You clearly missed the whole point of the movie being about Hollywood Satire and how this movie actively makes it a point on how bad racism is in the Hollywood scene. Btw a lot of the black community of people who watch this movie absolutely love it so don't be offended for them and put words into their mouths. Even a couple of well known black people who do reaction content love it. So don't pretend to be offended for them. Thanks for your little protest though.

QuiGon_Jim

Well, that's like.. your opinion, man

PHILLIP CORNISH

Don't know why I've not heard of them. Will keep an open mind and watch the winner. No good voting mine are always last. Loads of great films to be seen but never seem to get voted.

Steve SG-1

The only problem with Tropic Thunder is if it wins will Addie be able to laugh at it?, or will it just be a cringe fest like some other reactors?

Richard Maurer

These polls are always popularity contests, for every reactor I've ever been a patron of. If your tastes run toward movies that aren't hugely popular then you're going to be disappointed most of the time. I know this because I'm disappointed most of the time.

David Crabtree

I have faith that she'll laugh at it! It's funnier now than it was then!

PHILLIP CORNISH

Think you have hit the nail on the head. Mature comedy is the word or two.

Eddie

I'm super against going back and censoring movies. And I'm not trying to cancel anybody, (the actors, director, anybody). I saw it when it came out at the movies. It's a funny movie and there was no malice intentions. But it's a silly funny comedy. It's not like the Truman Show or some other movie that tries to make you think. If it did try to make you think it failed on that part. If you changed your vote just because it makes people uncomfortable then that reflects more on you.

Eddie

I know the blackface was meant to be satirical and it was done in a very fine line in the movie. But it was still uncomfortable. That's why I'm not saying streamers should drop it. I just wish it should die away on its own. They tried to say something about race but I think they failed. It's a big swing and a miss in my opinion.

Eddie

I'm offended for others, it was me who was offended. And just like anything else, there is no one collective mind on a race of people. Everyone has their own opinions on things regardless of their race.

Luis Fernandez

All I know is that if Anchorman doesn't win, something else will.

Eddie

Yes, I'm latinx and brown. I feel like I'm repeating myself from other comments, but I love movies, I get what they were trying to do but I think they failed. I don't blame them for failing, it's difficult adding a serious message in a comedy. There was other parts of the movie that's cringe like "going full r-" but besides those it's a silly funny movie with talented actors.

Byrd N. Hand

I can only tolerate '90s (and beyond) SNL alums when they're actually being reeled in -- *not* when they're doing their usual über-broad shtick for which they became famous on the show. Thus, I'll only accept "Stranger Than Fiction" and "Everything Must Go" from Will Ferrell (so far).

David Crabtree

Good point. I'm forever the optimistic lol.

Steve Mercier

I love me some Tropic Thunder...but I cannot in good faith vote against The Big Lebowski. Either way, good times!

LightsCameraJake

People who dont laugh at this movie miss the point of it entirely. I think Addie is smart enough to understand the humor and satirical nature of it.

Luis Fernandez

I'm pretty liberal with my laughs in that things that the childish humor that made me laugh as a kid will probably still make me laugh today. Of course it is all on a case-by-case basis. I love Ben Stiller and Zoolander cracks me up, but I didn't find Tropic Thunder (which is currently leading the poll) particularly funny. I didn't like Hitchhiker's Guide either, but I enjoyed the rest on the list. As for the movies you mentioned, I loved Stranger Than Fiction, but thought Everything Must Go was dull.

Alex Tan

I definitely feel you, Phillip, on your suggestions being last. Even several of mine are the same too. Despite this, I'm still open to watching the poll winner (which I can tell will be Tropic Thunder (2008)). BTW, when Addie did the Steven Spielberg poll, Ready Player One (2018) was the winner. Turns out, everyone just wanted to see Addie squirm when the gang got to The Shining (1980) challenge.

Koala

So many good choices

Joe Mallard

Needs some Ted and Jump Street in these polls.

james repka

You can vote for both, which I just did.

Richard Maurer

@ Eddie - I didn't change my vote to make anyone uncomfortable, I changed it mainly because I don't like it when people advocate for censorship, which is what you were doing, deny it all you want. Telling people to "leave the movie to die out" is calling for people to cancel it, which is censorship. And the fact that it's a comedy instead of a "serious" movie isn't relevant. You don't get to decide which movies are important and which aren't.

Richard Maurer

@ Byrd N. Hand - I get it, it feels weird when you've been someone's patron since 2019 and someone who joined last week has all the same rights as you. But I'm not sure what they could do as far as voting is concerned. If they changed to where senior patrons votes counted more the rest of the patrons they would probably revolt, or at least complain a lot about it. And since there would naturally be a lot more of them than there would be senior patrons they'd probably get their way.

Chris

A Tropic Thunder reaction is gonna be wild 😂 let's go

Mr. Writhms

I've yet to see any Black person I know (Including myself) to be offended by RDJ's role in this movie. I get the joke. The term "blackface" refers to the days when White actors put on black make-up to mock and disrespect—to perform a racist caricature. That is NOT what's going on in "Tropic Thunder". And most people understand that or else RDJ and writer/director Ben Stiller would have been in up to their necks in shit for it. It’s very funny satire of extreme method acting and that's all. Like I always say… If you are offended by some form of art, just don’t watch it, look at it, or listen to it. Please don’t try to deter other adults from making up their own minds about any art form. I voted for “Tropic Thunder” because I find it straight up hilarious, period. My rule of thumb goes: if the comedy is genuinely well thought-out and funny deeper than the surface then it's fair game, no matter what the subject.

Alex Tan

Hear, hear. And some View Askewniverse, too. #ViewAskewniverseForAddieCounts

Joe Mallard

Both movies and their sequels are absolutely hilarious and are hardly ever reacted to.

Alex Tan

New objective: Let's make Tropic Thunder (2008) & Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) tie each other so that Addie watches BOTH movies.

Alex Tan

@ Richard Maurer, I totally agree with you (on your popularity contest comment). Some of the movies that other reactors have seen are definitely movies that I would love Addie to watch soon. But it all comes down to popular demand. Right now, there's a HUGE demand for Addie to watch more sci-fi/action & fantasy movies, since she has seen LOTR & Star Wars. While many of them are movies that I, myself, enjoy, I would also love to see her watch more pure action thriller movies as well. Only time would tell when a pure action movie poll happens.

Fawks

Eddie, latinx was all you had to say to make us understand. ;)

Fawks

The problem is that it's a filmed reaction. So you never know how someone could freeze up in fear for their career. But she's so genuine that I'm confident she'll laugh. I think for most people, the fact that it's Iron Man himself, who is still the biggest star of all time uncancelled, indicates it's ok to laugh.

sarCC

Anchorman is great and Happy Gilmore is surprisingly sweet (and Adam Sandler's best movie!)

Eddie

K, don’t worry I understood y’all long time ago.

Luis Fernandez

Haha, that first sentence got away from me in editing :D

Richard Maurer

@Byrd N. Hand - Totally agree, I've been leaving, or thinking of leaving, reactor channels lately, all larger ones, and it's mostly due to the patrons steering the channel in a direction to where I'm no longer interested in the content. In general I don't blame the reactors as they're trying to make a living, and have to give the patrons what they want. But I also think they could push back a little more against the sameness that the patrons force on their channels, especially the larger reactors. The biggest reactors tend to influence the smaller ones, and this just makes things worse as you get to a bland sameness across the board. As a for instance, Popcorn in Bed did the Mission: Impossible movies and now everyone is doing them, to point that I've been skipping reaction channels I normally enjoy because I just can't watch another M:I reaction.

Alex Tan

Addie has seen Happy Gilmore (1996).

sarCC

Ah, thanks! I missread Billy Madison

Doug Watson

These are all Great choices!

Richard Maurer

@ Joe Mallard - Not trying to be sarcastic (not more than normal anyway), but have you tried searching reactions for those movies? I see both Jump Street and Ted reactions (including sequels) a lot in my feed lately. I wouldn't call them "hardly ever reacted to".

LightsCameraJake

I think a lot of reactors rely on polls way to much to do movies and effectively polls divide people and audiences and it hunders their growth espeically on a subscription platform like patreon. I wish more reactors just saw movies they were curious about, took suggestions and reacted to them. Only a couple reactors I know that do this and are really successful at it, one even has over 200k subs and over 1k patron supporters, and have never done a poll to chose what to watch. The most they do is take suggestions. Polls divide communities, if their movie don't win, they lose interest and viewership is lost because of it. patrons unsubscribe and such If you put their suggested movies in a win/lose scenario like polls to much. I follow one creator who solely relies on polls and their growth has been stagnant on patreon for over a year now. The biggest complaints are when they see the same movies they want to see get reacted to get In multiple polls and they constantly lose to the trendy stuff. This is why they should just react to them anyway and not always rely on polls. You'll still get the viewership, you won't piss people off and them argue amongst each other and people ultimately leave. Of coruse no matter what some people will never be happy, but in the end to much reliant on polls isn't how things should be done.

PHILLIP CORNISH

Some great valid points here and dont get my wrong i think Addie is one of the best out their. I have followed many who dont even react others that always talk over key events in a film and miss things then later Question the film. Just hope she reads all these comments and trys to suppport all her members and retain them. The YT bubble will pop soon for making an income so platforms like this need to grow. 😘

Richard Maurer

@ Byrd N. Hand - Just to clarify, when I mentioned PiB doing M:I I wasn't upset with her about it. I was just pointing out she started a trend - A trend where many smaller reactors copied her by doing M:I because those movie performed well for her. When other reactors copy the biggest reactors all it does is make for months of most reactors covering the same movies to the point where I, and I'm sure many other people, get sick of seeing them constantly showing in their feed . If more of these reactors would hold off on the trendy movies for awhile they'd probably end up doing better with them.

Joe M

Tropic Thunder is the clear winner. But would also do a reaction to the second place winner, which is Anchorman.

Jim Finley

I hope you include Tucker and Dale vs. Evil one of these times, too. A hilarious parody of a bunch of horror movie tropes, and smartly done.
