Alrighty everyone... the scary movie time is upon us! (I'm dreading this already) Give me your October recommendations! I'm looking for NOT TOO SCARY (if you recommend The Exorcist, I'm not going to trust any of your suggestions hahaha). "Not too scary" is different for everyone, but let me know what you want to see me react to! Give me your fav horror comedies, not-too-scary horror movies, fun Halloween movies, must see thrillers... Let me know! I'm already planning on watching Shawn of the Dead, The Mummy Returns, and The Sixth Sense next month. And if horror isn't your favorite genre (it's certainly not mine), don't worry! I'm not going to react to ONLY scary movies in October :)

Comments

Billy Dancel

Out of all of these, Psycho is the best thriller. All of the others are kinda to pretty bloody to be honest.

Randee Carreno

Happy Tuesday, Addie! 😊 All great choices for this poll. However, the original 1984 "A Nightmare on Elm Street" instantly got my vote for this one. One of my all-all-time favorites. Have a great day today! 😊

QuiGon_Jim

Well... now I can't wait for the 'Shaun of the Dead' reaction!

Alex Tan

Happy Tuesday, Addie. Horror is actually becoming my favorite genre, alongside action/thriller, and I'm very hyped to watch The Exorcist (1973) on Sunday, so I can prepare myself to see The Exorcist: Believer (2023) in theaters, with my girlfriend, on the weekend after I get back from my vacation in France. In fact, she & I have seen several horror movies this past month, The Nun II (2023) in Dolby Cinema and A Haunting in Venice (2023) in IMAX. We plan on seeing Saw X (2023) this Saturday. Most of these movies are movies that I would NOT suggest to you, except for AHIV. As far as this poll goes, my vote goes for Scream (1996). Speaking of Wes Craven, I'll also suggest Red Eye (2005), it's more of a thriller. #RedEye2005ForAddieCounts *UPDATED 9/26/2023 5:29PM EST

BND

some of the more "light-hearted" horror movies I like are: Zombieland Gremlins Tremors The Addams Family and Addams Family Values (these are more comedy than horror, but still "halloweeny") American Werewolf in London Arachnophobia Ghostbusters (1984) Poltergeist Beetlejuice

Alex Tan

For something not-too-scary and more light-hearted, I'm still pushing for Casper (1995) & Haunted Mansion (2023), as well as Zombieland (2009) & Zombieland: Double Tap (2019) and Scooby-Doo (2002) & Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004).

ElDoritos97

The "Final Destination" saga is the type of movies you watch on october/halloween. It's not really scary scary, but its has suspense. There are 5 films and one on current production.

Marko T.

Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) directed by Francis Ford Coppola. It stars Gary Oldman, Wiona Ryder and Keanu Reeves. Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994) starring Robert De Niro.

Alexis

Good list, I'd add "The Frighteners" too.

BND

yes! The Frighteners is such an underrated film!

zynjams

Dark Shadows, a vampire comedy starring Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfieffer, Eva Green, Chloe Grace Moretz

Brian Leonard

Have you watched The Cabin in the Woods? I don't like horror movies, but I am always willing to watch that movie.

Todd Joseph

What We Do in the Shadows. It’s like The Office, but with vampires.

sarCC

Definitely don't watch Scream until you've already watched Halloween

Cole Jennett

Tremors if you haven’t seen it already. It’s not scary, but fits October. Identity for a scary but not too scary thriller.

Alex Tan

Who knows. Maybe it'll happen.

Richard Maurer

At least 3 of the reactors I'm a patron of are doing Scream this year (counting Addie), a movie I detest. Going to be a crap Halloween in the reactorverse.

Richard Maurer

Yes, Scream is the single most overrated horror movie ever, and that's saying a lot. I can't stand how people hold it up as a "instant classic.". I could easily come up with 100 better horror films if I cared to waste that much time.

Alex Tan

(to Byrd N. Hand & Richard Mauer) I totally disagree here. I've been pushing for Addie to watch Scream (1996) since last year and now's her chance. (to Byrd N. Hand) And FYI, you should NOT gatekeep Addie from watching movies that don't appeal to you. She'll balance things out. Who knows, maybe she'll watch movies that'll appeal to you, soon.

Chris

Hmmm.. I love horror, but I like them scary lol. "Triangle" & "Coherence" could be some interesting ones for you. Both are smaller, very lesser known films & both I would categorize as more thriller/mystery with horror elements. They're really mind twisters though. Or I'd say maybe "Tucker & Dale Vs Evil" or "Happy Death Day" for some more comedy/horror ones.

Simon

Happy Death Day was cool.

Patrick Egan

Gotta vote for the original Halloween, it's a classic.

Luis Fernandez

For very light horror (by today's standards), you can consider the Universal monster movies from the '30s and '40s. The big titles... Dracula, The Wolf Man, Frankenstein, the Mummy, etc., are very good. Bride of Frankenstein is brilliant (but you gotta watch Frankie first).

LightsCameraJake

Addie I have a Thriller that was amazing when it came out and it's Ryan Renalds most under talked about films for how good it was, a film called "Buried" this is one of those heart pounding thrillers that just keeps you on your toes the whole time. Least for me it was.

LightsCameraJake

It's either scream or Halloween that always wins, in every poll, every year in every community in the reaction space, It's annoying. Not to say addie won't enjoy it but voters need to have variety in their lives sometimes and ive Lost all interest in scream and Halloween lol. So I'll just wait for the YouTube edit.

Bill W

Interview With The Vampire (1994) Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) Shadow Of The Vampire (2000) Or to go in another direction -horror/action- the Blade trilogy (1998-2006) Or teen dramedy/horror The Craft (1996)

Joe Mallard

The runner up should be watched regardless. It's getting boring seeing Scream winning these polls, the truly great horror movies are getting looked over for that crap.

Richard Maurer

Cinebinge and PiB are already doing Scream this year. Does everyone have to do it? I'd say go ahead and get it out of the way so we never have to see it in a poll again if it weren't for the inevitable "now do Scream 2,3,4, etc.!" comments. Bad as Scream is, its sequels are expediently worse.

Richard Maurer

Well, Halloween is kind of overdone but at least it's a actual classic, unlike Scream.

Laxjedi

While I really appreciate the OG horror movies from the early-mid 1900s, and have a great deal of respect for the scary “slasher” type stuff they made from 1970-1990, and I hear some of the very recent stuff like “Get Out”, “Nope”, etc. are pretty good, true “horror” has never been my favourite genre. That’s why I’m voting for Psycho as I’m more into “thriller with horror elements” type films. I also don’t mind the occasional “survival thriller (with occasional horror)”, such as more recent ones like “A Quiet Place”, “Buried”, and “Fall”.

Richard Maurer

I actually forgot it's 4 reactors not 3 doing Scream - completely ridiculous.

Richard Maurer

Forgot Natalie Gold is doing Scream too. Ridiculous.

Mr. Writhms

That's true. Scream is a satire of horror slashers, naming "Halloween" and others with spoilers.

Alex Tan

I feel sorry for the hell you went through during the February-April time span where she watched a lot of Star Wars content with The Mandalorian & The Book of Boba Fett. Again, Addie did say that she'll do her best to balance out the type of content that she watches because not everything will appeal to everybody.

Alex Tan

I congratulate her for jumping ahead with Scream (1996).

Thomas Yanez

That would be fun, and while I can't gauge how it would affect Addie, it's not very high on the "scary" factor.

Thomas Yanez

@Richard Maurer Fortunately, most of us aren't here to watch the movies, we're here to watch Addie react to those movies, so it doesn't matter how many other reactors also react to the same movies. I'll watch them all because I'm here for their reactions to something new to them, not the movies themselves.

Richard Maurer

@ Thomas Yanez I'm here to watch people react to movies too. But do you really watch them react to bad movies? or movies you've already seen dozens of people react to? I'm sorry but I've only got so much free time, certainly not enough to watch reactions to movies I don't care about. I like many reactors but there's not one that I watch every reaction they do. To each their own I guess.

Richard Maurer

@ Alex Tan - Yes, let's congratulate everyone for making Halloween reactions a homogenous bore fest this year...... yea.

Mr. Writhms

Some of my favorite horror/comedy movies: “Happy Death Day” (2017) [ A lot of fun! You'll forget to be scared.] “Ghostbusters” (1984) [Actually more comedy than horror…] “Fright Night” (1985) [Funny with great practical effects!] “Dead Alive” (1993) [Hilarious! Not scary at all, but really gory.] “Return of the Living Dead” (1985) [You can’t deny funny zombies.] “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein” (1948) [Saw this old classic on TV when I was a kid. It made me laugh so much and I loved it ever since.] “The Monster Squad” (1987) [It’s like “The Goonies” with monsters. Wait. Did you see "The Goonies"?] “Monster House” (2006) [Animated…] “Coraline” (2009) [Animated…] “CREEPSHOW” (1982) [It’s based on those old horror comic books from the 50s. It’s very stylized and campy/ funny. It tells 5 short horror stories. Before you are too scared, the story is over and on to the next one.] *cough* Stories written by Stephen King *cough-cough*

Alex Tan

Yeah, right. This movie is new to those who are about to watch it for their channels. There are other movies that other reactors have seen that I would love to see Addie watch soon.

Mr. Writhms

This one is not scary at all, more suspense. John Carpenter's adaptation of Stephen King's "CHRISTINE" (1983). It's about a CAR. Who's scared of cars? No one. Come on. 😊

Mr. Writhms

In my perfect world, Addie would just watch all the movies on Bryd N Hand's list. lol

Thomas Yanez

My dog was scared of cars. She'd bark and act tough while it was parked and off, but she'd shut up if somebody got in it and then run away as soon as you turned it on. Getting her to the vet was painful.

Thomas Yanez

@Richard Maurer Oh, don't get me wrong, "Scream" is the only one on the list I DIDN'T vote for, 'cause I think it's an awful movie. But, for me, that's beside the point. I'm here for the reaction, and if ends up being"Scream", part of my watching will be with the hope that part of her reaction will be recognizing the movie as crap. Sometimes that happens, and when it does, it is glorious.

Alex Tan

I beg to differ because I think Addie will recognize it as one that she'll wanna watch again, no matter what anyone says.

LightsCameraJake

I think reactors do research and will normally stick to what is trendy in the space, it has anything to do with you. Honeslty of all the suggestions we have seen from many people, Scream and Halloween were the least suggested that I noticed so I'm shocked it's even on the list which shows that, it's on there because it's trendy and it's guaranteed views to keep the channel going, it's that simple.

Alex Tan

Hear, hear. I've been suggesting this movie to Addie since last year since she did say for more not-so-scary movie reactions and when I looked up the scare level of this movie, I got very lucky. I don't care what anyone says, I would definitely wish Scream (1996) upon Addie. I find it very coincidential that other reactors, like PiB & Natalie Gold, are also planning on watching that movie as well. Fingers crossed that she opens the YT cut with her screaming before her signature "👋 Heyy it's Addie and today we're watching Scream." 🤞🤞

Richard Maurer

@ Thomas - I admit I'll sometimes watch reactions to bad movies if I know for a fact the reactor will hate it - share the pain, so to speak. But the opposite side of that coin is when I think a reactor will most likely enjoy a movie I hate - I prefer not to put myself through that, it can even make me unreasonably annoyed with the reactor, if it's a film I hate bad enough. So, considering the fact that Scream seems to be enjoyed by non-horror fans, and that most the reactors I mentioned are non-horror fans, I think it's for the best that I skip their Scream reactions. But to each their own.

Richard Maurer

I completely get that reactors have to do popular movies to, let's face it. make money. They're not getting YT views watching some obscure art house film from the 60's. BUT, having every reactor do the same movie (Scream) at the same time has got to hurt their YT views too. For every Scream superfan who will watch every Scream reaction, there's probably ten people who are thinking "I've already watched 3 Scream reactions this Halloween, do I really need to watch a 4th? let see what other horror films are being reacted to." And that's not even the Scream haters like me who won't watch any of the reactions.

Richard Maurer

Cars don't scare me, but the people driving them sure do.

carbsix

I'm old so I grew up on cerebral horror like The Omen 😬 ... scares me more than visual effects...

carbsix

Strangeland and Untraceable should be considered horror too 😵😬

Joe Mallard

Get Out is amazing, probably one of my recent favorites.

Alex Tan

Another horror/action movie I would also suggest is Van Helsing (2004) with Hugh Jackman & Kate Beckinsale.

Bill W

True, they have to do "popular" movies on Youtube to draw more viewers in. Also.. we have to remember that even though in our eyes some of these movies have been done to death (pun intended), Addie still has never seen it. So she has to get the "obvious" ones out of the way before going more obscure. That being said, there's no reason the less obvious ones can't be "Patreon Exclusives" , since we're the ones requesting them anyway. (not to mention paying $, unlike those other freeloaders =D)

Alex Tan

...and Scream (1996) also co-stars Courteney Cox from Friends (1994-2004).

Billy Dancel

The singing and chanting in Latin still gives me chills as I write this.

Alex Tan

She has seen Ghostbusters (1984). It was one of her earliest reactions. Unfortunately, she took it down on YouTube & Patreon because she wasn't satisfied with the editing style at the time. I do hope she's open to doing a rewatch reaction to that and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982), Beetlejuice (1988) & Edward Scissorhands (1990).

Phil Stubblefield

I personally could not care less about any of these movies other than Psycho. You can keep your slasher flicks, and I'll take the movie usually considered to be in (at least) the top 50 of all time... 😁

MoulinNoir

i think the movie The Others would be perfect for you

QuiGon_Jim

If you do watch it (you definitely should, its amazing), there's a film from 2014 and a TV series that started in 2019 (again, both are amazing). You don't have to watch the film first to enjoy the show but its a great introduction.

Alex Tan

Scream (1996) is a not-too-scary horror comedy and (I don't care what anyone says) I'm happy that it is winning. You're gonna love it, Addie.

Randolph Tirazona

The Exorcist (1973), Halloween (1978), The Omen (1976). Need I say more?!?

Luis Fernandez

In other news, Saw X is being released soon. Now hear me out on this one, Addie. You would absolutely hate the Saw series... those movies are bloody and gory and will fill you with anxiety. But if you make it through the first 9, when you get to Saw X you'll get to say, "today we're watching Sawx" (socks), and there would be much laughter. Might be worth the suffering?

Alex Tan

As much as I would love to see her watch The Exorcist (1973), she DID say that she wasn't gonna trust anyone's suggestions for that movie. But having said that, if enough ask, it might happen. And if it ever does, I do hope she watches the 2000 Extended Director's Cut (AKA: The Version You've Never Seen) and NOT the theatrical cut that's now on Max.

sarCC

Great movie, and one of his best performances. Definitely an underseen gem

Joe M

For some reason, I’ve Never been a fan of the original Scream franchise, until the 2022 Scream. I enjoyed the hell out of that one. Scream 6 was descent but still better than the first four.

Luis Fernandez

I think The Exorcist's 2000 version is good for a second viewing, but I prefer the original '73 version.

Randolph Tirazona

Hey! I was 10 years old when it came out and 'snuck in' to see it. OMG! What a way to see it not to mention being soo young! LOL Never saw the directors cut... Yet! Albeit - I don't care for scary movies much anymore lol

Richard Maurer

I'm not saying she should never do Scream. As much as I hate it, I realize it's popular and she needs to do it at some point, for YT views if nothing else. But with so many already doing it this year, maybe holding off till next Halloween would be to her advantage. I mean her reaction would have at least 3 less major reactors to compete with next year. Just a thought.

Mr. Writhms

In the original Saw, the gore is implied mostly. You don't hardly see any blood, sort of like "Seven".

Julian San

Such a great list of absolute horror CLASSICS and it’s ruined by a piece of pretentious crap in Scream having the most votes. SMH.

Long-time Sci-Fi Enthusiast

Hi Addie, for comedies suitable for October, please consider the following :- 1937 (Topper), 1944 (Arsenic & Old Lace), 1945 (Blithe Spirit), 1950 (Harvey), 1958 (Bell, Book & Candle), 1963 (The Raven), all but the last 2 are in B/W.

Alex Tan

NEW OBJECTIVE: Let's make Halloween (1978) win the poll so that she watches that movie before diving into Scream (1996) so she'll get some of the references later on this October.

Randolph Tirazona

Its all relative. You're probably right. But lets not forget the 'religious part' of it; because some may not be able to deal with that. Although for me - Damien: Omen II was up there too!

Thomas Yanez

I agree. The movie tells the story of a different set of vampires, but there is overlap between it an the TV show.

Thomas Yanez

Good point. Sometimes it's best to bite the bullet and watch the original scary ones before watching the movies that parody/reference them.

Thomas Yanez

@Byrd N. Hand The "scariness" of the movie depends entirely on what you believe. People with deeply religious backgrounds that BELIEVE in the topics the movie covers can find it VERY scary.

Thomas Yanez

I wish. It is unfortunate that it looks like she'll be watching "Scream" before "Halloween", assuming she ever even does see "Halloween".

Alex Tan

Who knows. Maybe Addie will do another horror movie poll with some of the same choices and Halloween (1978) could win if enough vote for that movie.

Marko T.

She should maybe watch Night of the Living Dead first. :)

Richard Maurer

If the people voting for Psycho, Ft13th. and NoES would be willing to change their votes to Halloween, it could beat Scream. Yes, Psycho has slightly more votes but Halloween is directly referenced in Scream so it should be watched first.. Also Elm St. and Friday the 13th are too far behind to win.

Luis Fernandez

Ya, might be a hard sell. I'll try again when Saw XX comes out. I'll suggest someone marathon the lot and for the last episode, to pronounce "Sawxx" as "sockses". They could then say "we're watching sockses today, precious" in their best Gollum voice. That would be gold!

Chip MC

i know this goes against the poll but try to save scream for after halloween and nightmare on elm street. scream is kind of a satire of those films and makes references to them specifically. scream works a lot better if you’ve seen the other slashers.

James Hawkins

Ive never seen Halloween but I have seen scream several times and you dont need to see Halloween at all to understand scream in the slightest. So its okay if it wins. Addie will be fine. :)

Chip MC

lmao hopefully no one said you need to watch it to understand it. theres just a good amount of fun things that'll be missed. scream is like the ultimate slasher satire and its rewarding to know what is being satirized. but maybe its a niche thing and only horror cinema lovers are into that stuff.

Ernesto Lopez

Knowing how she doesn’t like horror and putting her to see scream? just do psycho addie scream might be a bit much, out of all of these psycho is the most bearable to be honest

Byrd N. Hand

October is the one month of the year that Addie is willing to subject herself to horror movies, so you can bet your ass we're going to take full advantage of it (the old 'suffering for your art' routine). That said, my main objections to her watching "Scream" are more because a) it's the weakest title in this poll, IMO, and b) she's not going to get a lot of the references it makes to other horror movies due to her not having seen any of them.

Ernesto Lopez

Yeah scream should be later down the line, so psycho should still be the one she checks out first lol

Alex Tan

I know, right. I enjoy this time of year because we get to see Addie watch some scary horror movies for her channel, even though they'll often make her squirm. I do know that she'll get through them all in October, and I'll applaud her for that.
