Happy Monday, Addie. Rocky III (1982) continues the saga of Rocky Balboa. Mickey's death after Rocky loses his fight against Clubber Lang was heartbreaking but Rocky training with Apollo Creed was both awesome & heartwarming at the same time because that's when their friendship begins. See you soon for Rocky IV (1985). BTW, today is my sister's birthday.

As long as you enjoy them Addie I know we'll love them! That would be a spoiler! 😆 It's a Happy day! Been waiting for this one!

Happy Monday, Addie! 😊 This is a great way to start off a Monday. One of my favorites in the "Rocky"/"Creed" series. I always have to have tissues on hand for Mickey's death. However, this movie is the start of Rocky and Apollo's friendship, which I love. And Mr. T is a great villian as Clubber Lang. Aside from the training montage, the scene with Rocky and Adrian on the beach is one of my favorite moments. You will eventually find out who won that last fight(or "favor" as Apollo called it)between Rocky and Apollo from the end of the movie at some point. I'm not going to say when though. 😉 Already looking forward to "Rocky 4" in a couple of weeks. And no spoilers, but I would advise having tissues on hand for that as well. Have a great day today! 😊

I say if you want to continue the Rocky films, they are all worth even the creed movies. However this is also a good stopping point for a lot of people usually. I'm fine either way. RIP mick.

Nobody stops before Drago. Ha

I gotta say, Addie has the best OMG face in the business.

Looking forward to my fav, 4. Think i stopped after that due to me discovering my first wife in 84/85. We went to see this on the big screen and i remember us both boxing the chairs in front of us.

PS Great reaction Addie, you really feel the emotion of the films and i end up crying too.

Steve SG-1

I never seen this one before but it was great. Had the eye of the tiger song, Hulk Hogan and Mr T. FWIW I think you would enjoy the Karate Kid films and Cobra Kai series.

My favorite part of this one has always been when Rocky is doing the charity match with Thunder Lips, and they are introducing Rocky, and Rocky asks Mick "how much do you think he eats?" and Micky responds "about 202 pounds." then the announcer says Rocky's weight "weighing in at 202 pounds." That little smirk Micky has, it's just so perfect. :D

I really enjoy the first four Rocky movies, but the next one (number 4) is the first time that the movie felt more like watching a movie instead of a story. I still think it is good, but I feel like it loses a little bit of the charm the first three have.

Joe Mallard

There's two different versions of 4. I like the original cut, but the directors cut cuts out the fluff.

FYI: These have been my observations about the relationship between Rocky & Mickey from the first movie. Mickey – talks and acts like he’s from at least the 30’s. “Born April 7th, 1905 August 15th 1981.” And that fits. My dad talked in a similar manner; he was born in 1910. Rocky has had the locker in Mickey’s gym for 6 years. Mickey has been training him to some degree. Mickey calls him a tomato… “I run a business not a soup kitchen.” Soup kitchens started with the great depression in the 1930’s. When he gave Rocky’s locker to Dipper whom was a contender… At first I thought that Rocky might have been paying for the training which would give him ‘rights’ to the locker but with this act it indicates that Mickey ‘gave him “free” training.’ As well as Mickey saying that he’s running a business and not a soup kitchen. So back in ‘those days’ (the 20’s to the 60’s) there was always a ‘mutual’ understanding of self respect, respect for others and soo many other things… You never broke the law; you upheld it. You never did anything ‘remotely disrespectful.’ My dad used to say: “Got to be presentable when you go out!” – So don’t dress like a bum! Comb your hair and look nice and ‘presentable’ lol Mind your manners around anyone and everyone and respect everyone! The list was long! “Two bit(s)” - $0.25 (twenty-five cents). Skid-row: a place where hobo’s and bums would ‘live,’ or reside or otherwise congregate… Thee worst of places. Bum! One of thee worst types of people, lazy, good for nothing, tramp, freeloader, etc. Use of the word wasn’t spewed out like words are today; word usage by ‘those generations’ truly had serious meaning and degrading words like bum and others had and has effects on the persons involved and those that heard it. You never tolerated someone calling you a bum, especially if you knew you weren’t; those were fighting words. Use of “Kid” in my experience wasn’t used for ‘anyone’ except those within the family and friends of the family. It was generally used to express some kind of ‘recognition’ or ‘affection’ and/or ‘familiarity’ and even ‘relationship’ and even ‘respect’ to the ‘kid’ in question. For example in those days everyone asked your name and you were ‘required’ to give it, unless they already it. “Oh! You’re Steves’ kid!” I’ve heard child used up towards the 70’s and then it became kid. Although it’s been used to describe ‘children’ that you don’t know. During Rocky & Adrian’s date – while skating Rocky tells Adrian: “Fighting used to be tops with me, but no more. All I wanted to do out of fighting was to prove I was no bum, that I had the stuff to make a good pro.” “I still fight. I do it like a hobby.” At some point Mickey’s noticed this and somehow found out that Rocky became a leg breaker… So – as you should notice Mickey only calls Rocky “Kid.” Rocky seems to have taken great offence at having his locker taken and his stuff bagged up and ‘put on skid row’ and he confronts Mickey about it. Mickey lowers his voice and says: “Do you know what you are? You’re a tomato.” Then goes on to say in a lowered voice: “Let’s face it, I run a business here, not a goddam soup kitchen.” Also – for ‘them’ in those days “business” always comes first! It’s Mickey’s way of letting Rocky know that “even though I’ve given you that locker I have to make money so I’ve given it to Dipper.’ “You had the talent to become a good fighter, and instead of that you became a leg breaker for some cheap second-rate loan shark!” You should see that Mickey is very upset and some would say angry… You don’t get upset or angry like this at just anyone! Especially for ‘those people’ of those days! He’s telling Rocky that he’s crossed the line, gone to the dark side by becoming a leg breaker. And if that wasn’t bad enough he said you’re doing it for a second-rate loan shark! For ‘them’ and everyone in general – you never crossed into the dark side by breaking the law! You respected the law and even upheld the law! But now he’s letting Rocky know that crossed the line, gone to the dark side… Breaking ‘presumably’ honest people’s legs (whom were more than likely just down on their luck) just so a second rate loan shark can make money! One of ‘thee lowest jobs on the earth’ if you think about it. And those kinds of people were not respected. We can see that Rocky is at least upset and his only response… Rocky: “It’s a living.” Mickey: “It’s a waste of life!” Mickey turns away – at least upset, for me – he even looks disgusted… For me all of that is what hurts Rocky to the core. Then we see Mickey come to Rocky’s place; he’s never been there in 10 years that apparently Rocky has known him. Rocky starts off by explaining Cuff & Link. The turtle comment about ‘they make good soup’ doesn’t help. You can hear it in Rocky’s voice as it was ‘welcoming at first.’ Lest we forget that Rocky bought Cuff & Link from Adrian the first day she was at the Pet shop! After that, his voice and manner changes. They both know what’s going on but Rocky’s been hurt by a person he at the very least respects and trusts and even admired. This is why he doesn’t blow up in Mickey’s face; as that would be disrespectful. Rocky knows he needs Mickey to even have a chance to win the title from Creed. When they make up – you can see Rocky turn away, then almost immediately turn back to shake Mickey’s hand – to assure Mickey that he means it. For men of those days – you were only as good as your word! And ‘everyone’ knew if you broke your word! “Business wise” if you shook hands on something – that was as good as a signed contract. Having grown up in those times I ‘knew’ how things where back then. In the theaters back then – especially with the first movie – you can clearly see it and feel it within the scenes and the music also accentuates this to a degree that this whole world is dirty and run down and “down on its luck!” This was due to the recession back then… There was a recession in 1972 or so and in 1974 there was gas lines. You lined up in accordance with certain guidelines (varied by city, state, county, etc.) at the gas station because of the gas shortage due to the OPEC oil embargo. The lines where long! I went with my dad a couple of times and sat there for what seemed hours. Things didn't really start to get back to normal till the Bicentennial! At first I wondered why no one was commenting upon it… Cause when we watched it, it was clear as day as this world is dirty, rundown and poor. But Rocky, being who he is - did the best he could!

So nice to watch you react to this, i love this one! Personally for me the beach scen is the best scen in the whole franchise. Rocky's and Apollo's relationship is brilliant story writing from Sylvester. The Rocky movies brings out so many emotions, uplifting, heartbreaking, motivational and the list goes on.... About Clubber Lang, the guy was a driven solely by hate. But as you know Mickey dodged him and Clubber knew Rocky only fought them easier opponents,he was studying all of Rockys fights he knew him in and out. So in all fairness Clubber deserved a title shot he was the number one contender,he was ranked number 1...so i give him that. But other than that he was a ruthless and angry with no respect for anyone! Clubber was such a great villain that people just hated,he was the total opposite of Rocky. Clubber thought Rockys fighting style was to predictable, and got to cocky the 2nd fight. And the funny thing is when Rocky swiched style Clubber fighting style became more predictable...the only thing that he had was devestating power in his punches. And what made Rocky win wasn't only his new fighting style,Rocky got into Clubbers head that made him more furious and angry...and that was his demise, the very thing that drove him ended him...Clubber should've just listen to his coach.... '' Stop wasting you're punches, you're the Champ, don't try to take him out with one punch, use you're head, and you wear him down his all ours''. This movie have so many great details both in the ring and outsideThis movie have so many great details both in the ring and outside

Don't know how you're gonna handle ROCKY IV, but is an amazing flick. The director's cut was re-cut from beginning to end. Even some of the music was changed out. Some music that was on the soundtrack album, but never in the movie was restored. The director's cut is quite amazing.

Now that I’m caught up with you and the movies? I realize what they meant to me, when they came out while I was growing up and why I probably haven’t watched them in a while. They hurt me 😭😭 I watched only two other reactors who have seen these and was secretly hoping you wouldn’t but, like Thanos, it was inevitable.
