On the Edge of Friendship (Patreon)

Beast Boy lounged on the couch, stretched out in his usual lazy sprawl, eyes flicking toward Nightcrawler more often than he probably should. Kurt noticed, of course, the pointed stares, the way Gar’s jokes lingered just a second too long.
“Zhere is something on your mind, ja?” Nightcrawler asked, settling beside him. His voice was soft, teasing, that unmistakable German lilt curling through the air.
Beast Boy smirked, trying to hide his flush. “Maybe I just like the view.”
Kurt tilted his head, curious, his golden eyes glowing faintly in the dim light. “Always so bold. You know I am not gay like you, mein freund.”
“I know,” Gar admitted, voice dropping, “but… I can’t help it. You drive me crazy.”
For a long moment, Nightcrawler said nothing. He just watched him, expression caught between exasperation and something gentler. Finally, he gave a quiet laugh, almost resigned. “You are hopeless.”
Beast Boy’s heart thumped. He hadn’t expected more than rejection, but instead Kurt leaned closer, the air between them charged. A hand brushed along Gar’s shoulder — testing, careful.
“I vill allow this much,” Nightcrawler murmured, “but do not mistake pity for love.”
Gar swallowed, his grin fading into something softer, hungrier. The tension in the room thickened, unspoken but undeniable, as the line between friendship and something more blurred on that living room couch.
