'SUP Awesome Patrons! Spooks + Booooze '24 rolls on with our 2nd Poll Winner and 1st Candlelight Frights movie of the season: The Faculty! Marc and I went back to school with Kevin Williamson to discover that something's not quite right in Ohio. With Josh Hartnett's 90s hair, Piper "They're all gonna laugh at you" Laurie, and FRODO- how could you go wrong?

Here is our unedited, full-length reaction to The Faculty, and we would love it if you watch along with us. Definitely be sure to let us know your thoughts if you do! I've provided the unblurred version up top via Streamable (just click the photo thumbnail), and the link for the blurred, watchalong version can be found here: https://youtu.be/AlgVy1LswoE. For those watching the blurred version, remember that you'll need your own copy of the movie to sync up.

Thanks as always for your incredible support, and we hope you have a great rest of the week!

Pam R

Offspring sang the song at the beginning. I was a teen in the late 90s, so I remember it being everywhere.

Sara Fauth

"He's got that weird look." "Probably because he was just looking at Boob." I actually guffawed lolololol

Pam and Mike Thompson

Told you you'd be surprised by how many actors you'd recognize in this! I think on the origin, you may have forgot on the opening scene where the coach was fighting with the sprinkler and someone came up behind him. That's where it started, and so you knew it wasn't him or the principal that was hosting the queen. On Famke Jannsen, maybe Mark recognizes her from Golden Eye?

David vs. Film

Yes!! So many people! You were right about that, definitely. And true about the beginning and the sprinkler. But I mean like I wonder where she came from to begin with, or where the species originates from, etc. I think later on she said something along the linest of, "Back in my world" or something like that, so I'll just mark her down as Martian. lol

Did you watch the credits? There's a small Jon Stewart moment that you missed if you didn't. It feels very obvious to me that this movie was made by Gen Xers, and therefore seemed made for me and my friends when it came out. Similar to Scream (thanks Kevin Williamson), the writing is combining John Hughes with Wes Craven, and when I was 21 that's the movie I wanted to watch at Halloween (although I'm pretty sure both Scream and The Faculty were released after Halloween). Disturbing Behavior, Urban Legend, Idle Hands, and the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise were around this time as well. Later, I think Cabin in the Woods improved upon the genre, removed the cheesier bits, and subverted the clique/class warfare trope.
