I would like to extend a big THANK YOU and CONGRATULATIONS to our latest Legend's Tier Pick of the Month winner, *Sarah.the.clumsy*, who suggested Emma Thompson's adaptation of the Austen classic, Sense and Sensibility. The love! The heartbreak! The sense! The sensibility! This movie TRANSPORTED me immediately to the English countryside and I was saying, "Oh my.." like a very fancy fellow within minutes. 10/10.

I've provided the unblurred original with my commentary up top (just click the photo thumbnail), and the link for the blurred watch along version can be found here: https://youtu.be/3b0FcnLgLY8. For those opting to do the watch along version, remember that you'll need your own copy of the movie to sync up with my reaction.

Thanks again to Sarah.the.clumsy and to ALL of you incredible Patrons for your support! I hope that you enjoy this reaction :)

Yes!!! hahaha. I was going to put it out last night at like midnight, but then I thought, "Ain't nobody up!!" lol Now you know I am not the type to take anything very seriously, so I make no apologies for any errant comments haha. But that said, I loved this movie. It was so sweet but also had some good twists, and it really transported me to this little far removed world. Highly enjoyed.

Bridget Jones's mom, and Mrs Jennings were both in Harry Potter too! Bridget Jones's mom was the Hogwarts Hospital Wing nurse. And Mrs Jennings played the Fat Lady in the Gryfindor portrait in the first movie.

Ahhhhh THANK YOU!!!! THE FAT LADY IN THE PORTRAIT!!! THAT'S what I remember her from. She was great in this as Mrs. Jennings!!

Aaaahhh welcome to Austen!! Really enjoyed this rewatch with you - this isn’t one I’ve seen a lot so it was a great refresher for me. A+ cast, great writing, great story. My most often watched Austen works are the 2005 Pride and Prejudice (with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen and Donald Sutherland, Rosamund Pike, honestly another all star cast), and the 2007 Persuasion (the 95 one is great too). If you watched those then I think it would be really fun for you to watch Austenland. It is laugh out loud funny - Keri Russell is adorable and Jennifer Coolidge is freaking hilarious as always. It’s funny you just posted this because they are re-releasing the 2005 P&P in theaters for the 20th anniversary and I have tickets to go see it this upcoming Sunday!!! Suupperr excited haha.

Hey hey!! Yeah, I enjoyed it a lot! Nice to dip into the classy English country side every now and then, right??

David vs. Film

Ahhhh Kate!! How was it? Did you go on Sunday? Yeah this was great, and Austenland is something I think I would enjoy. Even though I haven't seen these, I'm familiar with them (S&S, P&P), but Persuasion is a new title to me! I don't remember that one at all.

Really enjoyed watching this again. The actor playing Willoughby is Greg Wise, he and Emma Thompson got together after this film and have been married every since. She was in the middle of splitting up with ex husband Kenneth Branagh when this was filmed. Apparently Greg Wise had a white witch friend who said he would meet his wife on the set of S&S and as Emma was technically still married, he thought that it was Kate Winslett so set about trying to get together with her but she wasnt interested as he is a bit of an old hippy at heart. And luckily for them both he ended up with Emma Thompson.

There's a reason why these books are so beloved 200 years later. They are a great commentary of their time as well as good stories. I think this was Kate Winslet's first big film and she was somewhere around 20 years old. Emma Thompson was far too old to play Elinor, who is only 19 in the novel, but she is did write the adaptation so I'll forgiver her! I think you were a bit harsh on the doctor! He'd been there at least 2 nights in a row. The outside of the London town house is Mompesson House in Salisbury, Wiltshire. It is in the cathedral close and is open to the public. The place where Marianne falls ill is Montacute House in Somerset and also open to the public. Fun fact 1: 2025 is the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen's birth. Fun fact 2: Emma Thompson and Hugh Laurie went to university together.
