Marc and I are continuing our classic Summer blockbusters with the ICONIC Goonies, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year!! Marc had seen Goonies going in - so it wasn't a first time watch for him - but I finally got to experience this classic thanks to you guys :) You voted for this one, and man did it live up to the hype. Although I have to say, my reaction to Sloth was not what I expected.

I've provided the full version of our reaction with the original content and commentary up top (just click the photo thumbnail), and the link for the muted, watchalong version can be found here: https://youtu.be/jZpntzwqi1k. (Keep in mind those of you opting for the watchalong version will need your own copy of the movie to sync up.)

Thank you so much for your continued incredible support, and we hope you have a wonderful rest of the day!

Marc misheard one of my favorite lines in the movie. When you asked him what Chunk said to Sloth, he said, "You smell like fish heads." The line is, "You smell like Phys. Ed." That cracked me up as a kid! I find one of the most interesting people in the Goonies to be the actor who played Troy, Steve Antin. He played one of the rapists in The Accused, which was an absolutely groundbreaking film at the time. He, Kelly McGillis, and Jodie Foster were all closeted at the time. I think he was the first of the three to come out publicly. He dated David Geffen for about a year not long after The Accused was released. His sister is the founder of The Pussycat Dolls, and one of his brothers is a celebrity hairstylist. Look for a current picture of him if you get a chance. He must have one of the best plastic surgeons in the world. He's 67 and looks like he's in his 30s. In the Goonies, he was already in his late 20s. He was closer in age to the adults than to the Goonies. Robert Davi and Joe Pantoliano (the Fratelli brothers) were 7 years older, Mary Ellen Trainor (Mrs. Walsh) only 6, and Kerri Green (the oldest Goonie) was almost 10 years younger. Surprisingly, Ke Huy Quan is actually a couple of months older than Martha Plimpton. This movie also reminds me that I would love it if a reaction channel would do a Mary Ellen Trainor marathon. She had small roles in so many great movies, probably in part due to her friendship with Kathleen Kennedy, Spielberg's main producing partner for years who later became president of Lucasfilm and in part due to her 20-year marriage to Robert Zemeckis. She, Veronica Cartwright, and Lee Garlington are my favorite 80s-90s sister/mom/secretary/doctor/crazy neighbor actresses. I can still hear Mary Ellen Trainor's lines on the phone to Kathleen Turner in Romancing the Stone (her first film role, of course a Zemeckis movie). Another weird fact is that she played the same character (a reporter) in Die Hard and the Denzel Washington movie, Ricochet. They're apparently set in the same universe, but she is the only clue I know of that made it to the final version. They don't even have the same writers/director/producer, etc. That's enough movie trivia for now. 😂😂😂

Pam and Mike Thompson

I have surprisingly never seen this even though we own it on Blu ray and we see the cast often at comic cons. I feel like I've been missing out! What a fun flick!

Finally got to watch your reaction and glad you enjoyed it! I think Sloth was a bit scary at first as a kid, yeah, once you see he's a hero, you get past that (can't remember if you mentioned it or not, but the whole Superman shirt and theme worked out because Richard Donner directed both, though my favorite film of his is still The Omen). If you guys liked this, you should really check out Monster Squad.

David vs. Film

Oh!! He did Superman?? Well there you go, that makes sense. And the Omen?? I knew I recognized his name, but I couldn't remember his works on the spot. And thanks for the Monster Squad recommendation! remind me to add it to the big Monster Poll coming soon for Spooks + Booooze

hahaha I love your collection of movies you haven't seen because that's just like us. There are a good many that neither of us remembers even buying lol

So much to unpack in this amazing comment!!! Like not even kidding, we could easily spend an entire lunch discussing your points in just this one entry ❤️❤️❤️ I really appreciate the info on Mary Ellen Trainor! I couldn't place her by name, but I remember looking her up after seeing her appear in Death Becomes Her. I want to re-read all this later (about to head out of work right now), but I had to say this part right now!
