This is canon too, wtf you talking about. I mean it is filler in the sense that it neither moves the plot nor any character development forward and is pretty much useless, but it's not as if it didn't happen. This isn't some adaptation where if something added wasn't in the source material didn't happen. This show IS the source material. So any episode that is shown is automatically canon.

I will say that I don't think this episode is as bad as it has been talked about in the fandom. It's definitely a step down, but there are some great action scenes. One of the reasons this is so hated is because back in the day this episode was re-run CONSTANTLY. Like, I would be wanting to rewatch ATLA while waiting for the next new episode and like 4 out of 7 days you would likely see this episode. And it's likely because it has absolutely no impact on anything in the show and this nickelodeon didn't have to worry about kids not understanding the overall narrative. And this hatred has seeped into the fandom. I mean it's still a bad episode, but I don't think it deserves the vitriol it has gotten.

The voice actor for the neat Gan jin was Rene Aberjenois (I can't spell) who was Odo on Deep Space Nine. He's done a lot of voice work.

its not bad but it is almost true filler. i think the only part thats canon about it is the fact that jianzhu is from the ganjin tribe but they only added that fact afterwards.
