I have to say that Ivankov was the first transgender character we saw in one piece, since you don't necessarily have to have breast implants to qualify to be called transgender I believe. :D

lobe how open minded you are! also there where hints like the sessha use which is only used for male samurai and well there never where any female samurai in japan, female warriors , maybe female swordsmen but never female samurai!

Zoro already figured it out a while ago and hinted at it, because Kiku uses "sessha", which is an old term used to refer to one's self by male samurais

All samurai use “sessha” to refer to themselves. What tipped Zoro off was hearing Kiku’s full name “Kikunojo” cuz the “nojo” part makes the name sound masculine

For those who dont know, the kappa is an emphebiose creature in feudal japan. It was a cryptid creature that many Japanese have spotted at the time. Some say it's close in resemblance to a mermaid. So pretty much he's a Fishman. fits in nicely in the world of one piece.

Yeah but Ivankov only identified as a male and I would say fell under the drag queen style category. I guess it’s confusing since Ivankov can change his gender with his Devil fruit ability

I don't think sessha was used by both men and women. In the translation notes for the manga, it said, "O-Kiku uses the term "sessha" to address herself, which is only used by male samurai"

I love how people don't even understand what they're reading xD sessha is NOT a term females use in general, as females were not samurai in the feudal ages

She already said that she will stick to the anime. But I would love to see her reading it from the beginning, cause it will be a good comparison about how different it is, even though I think she already did like first 2 or 3 chapters. The reaction is on YouTube I think.
