Great episode! Besides all the Oden greatness, I didn't expect to see Izo in this flashback. He hasn't appeared in like 500 episodes. Unless that's not the same Izo?

I think Kiku mentioned Izo or Izo was mentioned in the previous episodes where zoro and Luffy met with Kiku but I would have to go back and check.

Not sure if you miss it or not but the guy oden keeps visiting with the blue Afro is Yasuie, Otoko’s dad that Orochi executed. Seeing him as his pathetic little servant really makes that whole thing even worse

I get you wanna get to the present day but Oden is IMO one of the best characters in One Piece by far. He's my second favorite behind Luffy

I wasn't interested in this flashback at first either, but in my opinion it gets better. It is pretty long though. I think we'll be in this flashback for the rest of the year.

I doubt that it will be for the rest of the year. It's not that long but definately it's the longest backstory of One Piece to date. Explanation in full details without spoilers to those that don't know: Oden's backstory in the manga lasted for 13 chapters. We are only in the 2nd chapter of his backstory. So we still have 11 episodes before we reach the present time. But since this episode adapted the whole Chapter 961 and most of the Chapter 962, it at least reduced to 10 episodes left. By my account, if they gonna smoothly go with this pacing, adapting one chapter for one episode and without any breaks between the episodes, we should reach the end of Oden's backstory by the end of April. That means we have 2 months with Oden's backstory only. So for those who are waiting for the story in the present time, sorry. You have to wait 2 months, in worst case at least 3 to 4 months. Until then, perhaps you can wait and binge the episodes, otherwise I don't have any more suggestions or advices for you.

If they are continuing with it, then that makes it easier. Even though since they are already adapting one chapter for one episode in some way, it will be great if they reach the 1000th episode by adapting 1000th chapter, cause that would be nice.

just to confirm it is in fact the same Izo as 500 episodes ago (the one on Whitebeard's ship). I always suspected that Izo was from Wano but now I know that the reason Izo and Kiku dressed as girls when they were children is because they were trying to imitate geisha dancers in order to make money.

Yasuie is not actually Oden's uncle. In Japanese it's a way to refer to middle aged men. The same way some people call old people "Grandpa" or "Grandma" in English (often to be rude) while they are not actually their grandparents
