I think the clue to Roswaal was the book he was researching on Betty's flashback, he was looking at Souls and saving it on vessels. That should give you a little more of an idea on what is happening with him and why he had the memories from the kiss with Echidna.

Ruben I think you're the one who misunderstood that comment. "Betty's number one" doesn't have romantic connotations. It's quite creepy to see it that way when the novel & show go out of their ways again and again to show that their relationship is familial.

Beatrice doesn't "love" Subaru in the romantic sense, I don't know why many people think that. They're family now. Beatrice is his contracted 400-year old spirit, it would be very weird for her to fall in love with a teenage boy.
