This was a special canon chapter in the manga, there are quite a few more after this too, though I don't remember how many got animated into OVAs. I know there's at least one more after this though

i hope so, 100 year quest so far has been really good and if the anime comes back, better chances for some of the other specials from the manga to be animated as well

The voice actors wanted it to happen was the last bit I heard. Then everything went crazy haven t heard anything since. The property still makes money and 100 Year Quest is an ongoing manga even if it is month to month. So fingers crossed support the manga and maybe it will happen.

Well the thing about this OVA is that it was adapted from an actual normal numbered chapter of the manga. Most fairy tail OVAs are adapted from omake (special side chapters), but this chapter was in the main series. But it was a bit inappropriate for TV (well at least for the timeslot at the time), so they made it an OVA instead.
