October Lore Drop: The Gigantia Massacre (Patreon)
Content
The Gigantia Massacre was the ordained purge of the giants (Col-assholes, Gigantards, or Biggers) residing on the planet Gigantia by the Holy Space Kingdom. After scouts were deployed to the sector, they discovered abundant deposits of pink crystals (their proper name being lost in one of the ancient holy archives), a precious ore essential in producing laser-based weaponry. When the good news reached kingdom officials, they promptly requested the planet be strip-mined of its resources. Once approved, the Star Defender legion was sent out to begin cleansing the planet’s surface in preparation.
When the Star Defenders arrived on the planet, the native giants seemed indifferent, seemingly paying no mind to the oncoming forces. After seeing what was clearly a psychological tactic to lull the troops into a false sense of security, the Psycho Warriors began to retaliate. The giants then showed their true colors and began belligerently smashing the Star Defender’s forces and weaponry. Despite their apparent lack of knowledge in warfare, they proved themselves to be larger nuisances than previously thought.
The giants were colossal bipedal humanoids who, at the time of the purge, were still in their primitive stages, not yet evolving past the need for rudimentary tools and blunt weapons. However, their enormous stature compensated for their lack of advanced technology, with the average giant reaching upwards of 1400 feet tall. This, in addition to their biology’s apparent disregard for the square-cube law, made them formidable threats in both land and air combat.
One report claims they witnessed a giant snatch a squad-ship out of the sky and hurl it at another one flying overhead. Separate claims also state that the giants picked up scattered Psycho Tanks and pointed their panicked laser-fire at oncoming troops. Other grizzly reports claimed that giants openly consumed handfuls of Psycho Warriors, armour and all, emitting sounds akin to “screaming hard-boiled eggs.”
To defend against these attacks, the Star Defender legion pioneered a strategy suitable for safely eliminating the giants: orbital headshots. By hovering just above the atmosphere (outside the planet’s gravitational pull and the giants’ throwing-range), ship-mounted railguns could get a clean shot on the giants’ over-sized craniums. Considering both the lack of casualties and the cost-saving measure of each giant being taken out by a single shot, this method proved to be incredibly efficient albeit a little boring for the Psycho Warriors. Thus, the planet was cleared of all the giants within 3 days.
Once the giants were completely wiped out, the bodies were then allocated to enormous burial sites (officially termed ‘mass graves’ because of the giants’ mass) to clear the surface for mining. While allocating alien bodies isn’t typical, it was deemed necessary to clear the planet’s surface.
Since its cleansing, it’s been estimated that the planet holds 14 quintillion tons of unmined pink crystals, which can supply the entire Holy Space Kingdom with pink laser-power for about 1 year. Currently, the planet’s mining operations have been put on-hold until the mining equipment permits have been approved, with the estimated wait time ranging between 300-500 years.
“We called them “giants” because that’s pretty much all they had going for them and it just kind of stuck. If they were a bigger threat, we’d have given them a more creative name.”
~ Brother Kelvin, Star Defenders
“I saw a giant throw my squadmate Dimetrius into space. It just picked him up, reared back, and spiraled him right out into the stratosphere. He was gone in an instant. That was probably my favorite part of the mission.
