While you are free to use any of the characters in a non-commercial manner, I hope some of our pairing offer ideas and inspire your worlds as well.
Our first NPC is Iago Penvennen - a burly man who exemplifies order and might, sometimes to the extreme. Religious warriors are often clashing with the goals of societies, but sometimes also aid their institutions. Iago is one such man, a warrior of his faith and a leader in his community. Our original inspiration saw him as a leader of a paladin order, or perhaps even the hard-headed cleric of a dwarven order. His style belies a strictness that can either aid, or harm, depending on your goals.
We've paired him with the Temple of the Firewalker. As a martial-based NPC and minor lord, Iago thrives in an area where he can showcase his prowess.
Up next is the cheery Marius Constantine, a religious politician and planner, full of heart and life. A distinct contrast to Iago, Marius seeks the wonder of what his institution can offer, focusing on the art, philosophy, and politics of creating a better world. In our setting, Marius is a social climber, a networker, wheeler-and-dealer in his faith, giving adventurers information and supplies in their quests. Our resident character artist Magenta has given him two alternate looks, one that is more pensive, and one brooding.
Marius Constantine is paired with our Sorcerer's Sanctum. He's focused for religious intrigue, and shines where his charisma can aid adventurers.
Thirdly comes the splash for Aurum Gregorious, a more scholarly-focused holy man that seeks truth and knowledge in history. A scholar of many fields, from archaeology to art, Gregorious serves as a religious leader in my setting, someone whose kindness and knowledge has helped better his community. For Gregorious, the answer to many of life's mysteries can be found in the works of the past, and he seeks constantly to reconcile an ever-changing society with the stolid interpretations of a religious order. As a philosopher, he has many questions, some of which can aid your adventurers in answering their own calling.
Gregorious is originally envisioned as the master of the Cleric's Lodge. The scriptorium is bespoke and was hand-carved himself!
Our fourth character is a little different! Whereas some settings have codified religious institutions, we wanted to offer a character for settings that exist in the more classic fantasy, or even dark fantasy realms. Enter, The Mother, both a name and a title for our shaman-styled religious figure. The Mother serves as a seer and shaman for her community in a setting where religion exists as its more ancient interpretation: free to be liminal, unknown, and more mysterious. The Mother is both interpreter of The Voice, as well as a guide for those that remain ignorant of the world around them. In a dark fantasy setting, she could be cruel, yet just in her protecting her people from the dangers of the world. In a more classic fantasy setting, she can be a shaman, interpreting the will of cruel and capricious, yet unknown gods. Personally, this one is my favorite, as her mantle features a thylacine! Seriously, have you seen one of these animals?
The Mother works best in a zone more connected and in tune with nature, as she embodies humanity in a state where we were far more in harmony with the environment. I've paired her with the Druids' Mountain Shrine, where ritual and sacrifice still have meaning in a religion that doesn't rely on books, but rather liminal knowledge.
Thank you all for your continued support! We hope you are inspired to create and continue your stories of the mythical and the mighty. Happy adventuring!
