And what evidence could Endy have provided that wouldn't instantly have made the situation worse before or validate Enerran's suspicions now? In the middle of hostile terrain well aware of spies, agents and other anomalies that can be weaponized?

'Stubborn' nothing, Enneran has literal cause to know a lot more about Endy's own in-laws than he does. It's a very extended lineage of public figures and Endy's only 'met' two. And one of *those* is a massive asshole.

Well obviously he's making assumptions based on specific members of the family. And besides that, Endy has no reason to lie.

Enerran cannot read Endy's mind, so he has to consider what Endy's situation *could* be based on what he's observed and how that might fit into the world as Enerran knows it. His base assumptions aren't ours, but he isn't an omniscient reader. Instead, he's a ranking officer of a military under pressure and has to act accordingly.

Or to put it more bluntly and simply: Endymion *IS* 'lying' just by being an alien presenting as a native, and Enerran has to take that at face value.

True, but Enerran has nothing but intuition that Endy is not Taen. While commanding officers often utilize intuition, it's rather unusual for one to take drastic action based solely on that. He must know something more...
