What is it now?
Okay so what's going on this time? Alright, well, I'm still getting used to the new Cintiq. I think my lineart is still suffering, it's probably noticeable in the comic. Or maybe I'm just my own worst critic. Anyway, that whole issue by itself put me behind and drastically reduced my buffer.
But then on Wednesday, I got a call from my mom. She's doing a lot better since the death of my father and brother last year. But she is by herself, living 1.5hrs away from me (About 90 miles/140ish km). Anyway, in the call, she told me that her 20 year old van broke down on her.
I have been begging her to get a newer vehicle for the past 3 years, before my father died, even. But they didn't want to do it. They keep putting money in the van and want to limp it along. Let me tell you about this van. It's a 2004 Pontiac Montana. It has over 220k miles on it. It has a power steering fluid leak that the shop advised my parents wasn't worth fixing. So every few months, we have to put more it. The dash doesn't work. They have no idea how much fuel they have or how fast they're going. The SES light works, of course, and it's always on. The driver rear sliding door won't open. And my mom has trouble closing the hatch. The glove compartment is permanently open. And the plates are expired on it, and my mom can't update it, because somehow the van was in my dad's name and not hers.
Anyway, this was the last straw for me, so my roommates and I went to her town, went to the dealership she INSISTED we use. And then...
I was hoping to get her one of the Toyotas they had on the lot, but the dealer suggested this 2025 Chevrolet Malibu, which is cheaper, it's a newer model year, and has better options like a power driver's seat for my mom.
So that's one less thing I have to worry about for my mom. Making sure she keeps up with payments, that's another story.
So the other reason I'm behind and will remain behind this week. We're running our annual Halloween plot on the Kaerwyn RP.:
What will the characters do when blood thirsty living-stone vines overrun the town? Well, that's up to the players! The Kaerwyn RP is as important if not moreso than the comic, and I have to be able to keep up with it. I've been slacking for the past year because my situation with my family makes it very difficult for me to schedule things in advance and have the proper time to put into it. I want to give this plot my full attention for this week.As a reminder, the Kaerwyn RP is open to anyone. It is kind of a time sink, but it's free entertainment. We run the plots similar to what you see in the comic. The RP is chat room style, so you're just writing for your character. Here's an example of what the RP itself looks like:
If the story there looks familiar, it's based on this page from the comic. https://kaerwyn.thecomicseries.com/comics/721/
Anyway, I will post some of my recent commissions here for this week. Next week is supposed to be buffer build week. But if I can get enough pages done this week, I might be able to start updating then.
Anyway, that's what's going on in the life of me.
