You guys should check out Gaslight (1944). It’s a good film, and it’s where the term “gaslighting” comes from. It stars some great actors from that period: Charles Boyer, Ingrid Bergman, Joseph Cotton, and Angela Lansbury. It’s good to know the basis for our culture, our language, and our memes. If you think about it, there is no reason that gaslight is associated with manipulating someone other than this play/movie. It filled in a gap in our language to the point where it now stands on its own. Bergman’s performance (Oscar winner) is considered one of the best ever by some. In regards to Rosemary’s Baby, it’s a film that stays with you long after you watch it. It is so creepy and unsettling. I bet if asked a year from now how you would rate it, it would be higher. I was not really a fan of John Cassavetes, but man, he knocked it out the park with this one. The only other actor that could have beat his performance was maybe Jack Nicholson.
