In the 70s it was very popular for people to have CB radios in their cars for fun, so this was spoofing that a bit. Another movie with Burt Reynolds that always goes with this in my head is Cannonball Run which is another road comedy (unfortunately it’s not available on digital) Boogie Nights was another top movie later in his career. This isn’t the first time Jackie Gleason who played the sheriff has been on the channel. His sitcom is what they are watching on tv in Back to the Future. Sally Field is one of my favorite actresses she can do both drama and comedy well. This was right as her career was transitioning from tv comedy to movie star.

Coors was still a regional product in the 70’s. It was made in Colorado. The beer was not licensed to be sold in states east of the Mississippi River because it was not pasteurized and had to be refrigerated. The company was concerned about a spoiled product being delivered. That created a pent-up demand in the states that couldn’t sell it. And a plot device for this film. It got broader distribution mid-80’s.
