Hey hey! I wanted to get your opinion on a few things. For those just looking for the latest true update (or perhaps just joining us??) Truffle's Day { 12 } can be found riiight here

Selecting the Twist

The comment I picked last time for the twist (thanks Kristie!) wasn't the one that got the most likes individually, but one that represented the most prevailing sentiment. There were many comments that basically said the same thing, and so I grouped the likes on each of them into one option, which in total had 42 likes. Do y'all think this is a good way to do it? Or should I ignore duplicates and just go for the single comment that got the most likes? It's a lil more work for me counting duplicates or partial duplicates but I don't mind if it better captures the overall sentiment.

Locking in the Outcome

I often need more than a day to start on the drawing, but I don't want people to be (unknowingly) commenting into the void after I've started them. I'll still read your comment ofc, but after a certain point I have to "lock in" the outcome -- I'm thinking of making the cutoff third day after I post the update maybe? Like from when I post it to the next morning, and then a full 24 hours, and then another full 24 hours, and then I tally it. I might need to make that 2 days for times when there's an update on Wednesday and then on Saturday. Lmk what y'all think, most of you get in pretty early but I wanna cover all schedules & timezones!

Polls?

I've noticed there's a poll option for Patreon posts. I could do the voting through polls instead of comments if y'all want. The downside here is I do read all your comments, and really enjoy when you explain your reasoning for picking an option, speculate on lore, or I dunno, do probability math. Poll is more efficient & utilitarian but also just so much more impersonal imo. What do u think?

New Feature: Next Update Links

There is now navigation between the updates! Link to the next one at the end, the previous one at the beginning. Enjoy! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*✲゚*。⋆

Language Update: TWIST is now CORRUPTION

I just think it's cool.

I think the way you are doing it is a good system! Also the cut off date sounds like a good idea!

J

Counting dupes is fairer I think but I understand if that's too much effort sometimes. 3 days is fine. I really like the comment system vs polling and hope comment counting stays!

Rololess

Having a dead set cutoff date is a good idea! Everything else you have already is going well.

Letsan

Comments work out great, there's always something fun to read there. And counting similar comments as a vote is fair game, and I think that just looking for the most upvoted comment might not work as well (as Patreon makes it a bit difficult to see all comments in a post when there are too many of them).

Lana

Shen I love you ;-; it’s so heart warming to know that you read comments individually <3 it shows you care. And I would go with counting duplicates, locking in answers, and polls for small choices only.

Adam W

Would poll+comments also work? Poll for ease of use and comments for more details?

Beetle legs

Maybe we can have polls and comments? Like first few hours read comments and then use the most duplicates / popular suggestions in the polls?

shencomix

TRUE i have to click "load more comments" like 5 times lmao. not that i'm complaining, good problem to have

Jacob O

I think it's a fair system to count likes on similar posts as one. Comments can also lead to more interesting scenarios than you might have thought of on your poll.

Darbinator1101

I like commenting! I also agree with a deadline for suggestions. If counting duplicates is too much work than I'm fine with just the most likes! But I def appreciate you counted them.

shencomix

see i was thinking poll for the big choice and comments for the twists/corruptions, but i'm a little nervous that some people might think of a cool corruption while writing a comment that they wouldn't think of (or wouldn't post) if it was just a poll button. the twists/corruptions are for giving y'all more control and being able to feature individual comments instead of just like a vote tally. maybe it's worth trying for an update... 🤔

Sarah Sammy Huerta

It is really refreshing to have a content creator ask the audience for input on the story! And that’s why we all love and support you Shen!! 💕 As for the actual questions you asked, I believe it is a more accurate outlook to group the likes of similar comments! It seems the most fair seeing as it’s difficult to load more comments on Patreon so the most liked comment may not represent the majority simply since we can’t see them lol

AlexTheObnoxious

I think that if you dont mind checking all of the comments, that would be better but if you would rather cut down on the hassle and do polls that would work too. Also i think grouping similar comments works best

Hal 🔆

I really like the way you've been doing it. I think it makes more sense to go for overall sentiment instead of individual comments but I know like you said that's more work for you. also polls might be better for like if you want specific options but I like the "open world" feeling of commenting something (or reading comments) that wasn't necessarily an option presented ^^; all in all I'm really loving this and I'm really loving the way you're executing it. ♡

Hal 🔆

oh and the deadline makes sense! I honestly think 24 hours is more than fair but 48 is plenty as long as that works for you.

Kevin

I'm loving the interactive story. I think counting duplicates is fair game, and the cut off is a great idea. There has to be a point that you don't count more votes. I think poles are nice, but not for the level of detail you are looking for. Especially if you are reading all of the comments anyway. Ps, I miss you helping with Live with Yourself!

Sunny S.

I don't have an opinion on how you should do it, but I'm just here to say please don't stop doing it!

Stefanie

I like commenting into the void. It reminds me of the insignificance of my existence. …but the poll idea is good too.

MikoPiko

Imo summing-up likes from multiple similar comments isn't a good idea, because one can like multiple of same kind and then even though more people liked something, another one is winning. I'd like polls more. After all it's not like we will stop commenting, but it will also easier to find funnier or more interesting ones and not just bunch of "Go left"-s

BurntSquirrelArts

Commenting has that nice personal touch, and encourages more people to say something than if they could just click an option anonymously. For the voting thing, I would say to do the following: find the comment with the most likes and add one bonus like for each other comment that follows a similar sentiment. Do not, however, combine their like values, as people can like multiple of these comments, which then could end up counting 3, 4, or 10+ times.

Jacky Yeh

I think you should do whatever the most entertaining option is on your end. I ran a CYOA with my little brothers and the story ended with the characters “ watching “ penguins for the rest of eternity. It was the most satisfying end, so I guess try for the same.

Mary

I think what your doing now is great and it’s fun reading through the comments :) But I don’t mind polls too if it saves you time, we don’t want you to burn out! Having a deadline is a good idea too. Thanks for asking for our /the reader’s input!! ** feeling so moved TT____TT

Jacky Yeh

Make a link to a poll page if you dare… like google polls

Merl

couldnt we just have polls AND comments on why we picked a poll? then you get to read of comments but wont get too stressed! (EDIT: that is to say, just count the poll! but the commentary would give you a general vibe of WHY we voted something. )

Letsan

Maybe having a window for commmenting and getting ideas (say, 48hrs), and then use the poll system with the most mentioned corruptions? As effective as polls might be, they will affect comments for sure since commenting is the only way to vote now.

Joy Cant

I agree with this! Poll for counting, comments for additional stuff. People can still comment even if they don't have more to say about their vote, but they need to make sure they have answered in the poll.

rampantasian

Great of you to consider asking your audience! IMO I think your idea of a poll/comment combo would be the best of all worlds. Polling also helps give more shy people a way to participate in a less stressful way, and comments are open for any discussion or suggested corruptions, which should help you tally up any plot twists much more easily!

Jon Barker

I really like the way you're doing it now. It reminds me of a couple of postal rpgs I played in the last millenium. (I love being able to talk about things from the last millenium like I'm some sort of ancient cyborg). Personally I prefer commenting to polls, but not strongly. I'd participate in polls.

Don't you dare to click away from the credits

When you count separated posts it is possible for one person to vote for the same topic multiple times. While I get the idea and like the effort, I think that you should either only count the post with the most likes or the sentiment that got posted the most. Counting likes on duplicate will most likely result in the most common idea, instead of the most liked, to win. Cut off date sounds good! Love this whole system!

Racheal Haddon

Are YOU able to go straight into the comments and add one for each option, and whichever one gets the most likes wins? Then we can all still make comments as suggestions, and if someone else's comment gets more likes than any of the standard options we go with that instead?

Wizerl

True, that could be the case too. It's hard to say how to count it properly as it is now, not everyone is gonna look through +100 comments to get the idea voted. Some will just comment same thing not knowing it's already there

shencomix

right, that's my main concern: that 2 different comments w/ basically the same thing will get like 8 and 7 different likes respectively, and then I ignore 6 ppl's preference by only counting the 8 one (with a +1 for the duplicate). BUT i think, judging from the comments on { 12 }, i have a distorted idea of how common duplicates actually are due to giving examples of twists in { 11 } and a lot of ppl just liking one of the examples and commenting it.

The Legendary Pootis Man

I love to comment on the posts, it feels like I'm participating more! But ultimately it's up to you, I don't mind really! :)

Ash-E

I love the comment system, but you do have a lot more Patrons now… NOICE! So if changing to polls makes it easier on you, I say go for it. Either way I’ll be leaving a comment. ꉂ ૮( ᵒ̌ૢꇴᵒ̌ૢ )ა。*゚✧ 💕

Ariel Saccoman

Why not poll and have comments for corruptions so you know what you option you are drawing for because it’s already locked in plus it will help with lore consistency depending on how long this goes for

Ariel Saccoman

You could also make the story more complex and almost like an rpg because you can implement an inventory system to give us more control but your still in control artistically always that option of do something else with an inventory item

Milkydevil00

I like the idea of polls for main options + comments for corruptions! Like it’ll keep the story moving forward while still getting peoples ideas in there. I think the idea of choosing a random comment every once in a while would be neat too, just to spice it up a little and keep everyone on their toes.
