Aside from not wanting to kill Marco in front of his son, I think he had a suspicion Marco would be the kind of narcissist who couldn't help himself and would brag about his plans - and so he managed to record his conversation before being airlocked. And not just ONE rock - that last holo image showed at least eight. Prepare yourself for an absolutely nonstop-drama Season 5. Bring tissues and something/one to hug - and it's extremely topical right now. It also plants the seed for the rest of the series/books.

I kind had a feeling you were going to be pretty sad about Ashford's final scene. We all were. Many a tear has been shed during that scene. There is a character named Ashford in the books, but he's actually kind of a dick, and not really anything like the TV series character. I don't recall clearly (it's been quite a while since I read them), but I'm not even sure Book Ashford has the same backstory, etc. This version of Ashford was pretty much created for the show, through a combination of the great writing and the wonderful performance by David Strathairn, who is one of the best character actors working today (I think). He was originally slated to just be in Season 3, but his work was so compelling, his chemistry with Cara Gee so natural, and his real enjoyment of the role and the story so strong that the production team and Strathairn worked out a second season for him. And we were all the beneficiaries of that agreement. David Strathairn is well regarded and in demand, so the fact that he chose to do a second season of the show is quite a compliment to the show and the team behind it. Ashford's shanty is indeed a pirate song, it's sort of a Belter adaptation/translation of The Ballad of Captain Kidd, written about Scottish privateer William Kidd, who was executed for piracy by the Brits in 1701. The song was published that same year, and apparently was quite popular at the time. Regarding Chrisjen, while she no longer will have the political power to aid Bobbie in her investigation, she does have quite a bit of money, which... well... helps. A lot of the cast & crew have said that they believe Season 5 is among the best work they did. I agree, as do many, though there is a rather loud minority of fans who don't like the season's focus. Basically, as you have more or less predicted, there's going to be a lot of Marco/Filip/Naomi stuff, and it gets pretty heavy. There's also a lot of Drummer stuff... Both she and Naomi are put through the wringer, somewhat repeatedly. It's hard to watch, but it's pretty damned human, and the performances are off the charts. Maybe Taylor Swift can write a couple of catty songs about Marco! And, whatever you do, don't feel like you have to apologize for the Murtry/Hitler/Swift thing. I think it might have been the highlight of my week. There's been a lot of discussion about why Ashford didn't just kill Marco when he had the chance. Theories abound; a lot of people think he felt it was important to extract some information because, if he and Marco both died in that moment, Marco's plan may well have been executed by his cohorts and Ashford would have been unable to stop it or even get the word out if he were dead. I also suspect that fact that Filip had a gun pointed at Ashford's head might have given him pause; it's not like he was planning for this to be a suicide mission and he didn't know for sure that Marco was going to space him, so he probably figured, in general, that not pulling the trigger there was his best chance to not be dead, which would have been his preferred outcome. In any case, whether his reasoning was strategic or just survival instinct, I think Ashford was not ready for "game over" yet, which it certainly would have been had he pulled the trigger. Anyway... The roller coaster awaits - see you in Season 5. I'd stock up on tissues if I were you!

Oh wow, another Expanse treat 😊 That beautiful fiery rope... that is showing how close the Barb was to hitting the atmosphere of the planet and burning up 😅 Can't wait for S5 and you seeing some top-notch acting/casting (not that it was ever bad, with the small exception probably being Arjun #2).

I think as a mother, my immediate thought about Ashford was that 1. as soon as Filip showed up he knew he was dead either way, and 2. He (Ashford) could not kill Filip's father in front of him. Show Ashford as a parent (as well as a pirate!) was more sensitive to the role of a parent (and perhaps he was also thinking of Naomi in that moment.) Anyhow, I had been spoiled about this event and avoided watching this episode for a long time!! :'(
