Apokolips... Now! (Pt 1 & 2)

These were definitely one of the best episodes of the show. I was excited for you to meet Orion and learn more about Darkseid. I know you know how bad Thanos was in the MCU, but these episodes really gives you more of an idea of why Darkseid is so much worse. Especially after killing Dan Turpin. One interesting fact about the character Steppenwolf that you met in the part 2 episode is that he's actually Darkseid's uncle. Also interesting you were mentioning Nazis because Darkseid's personality was based on Hitler and Richard Nixon when the character was created. I don’t blame you for being creeped out with the Parademons biting and ganging up on Superman. They are pretty nasty creatures. The reason why Orion looks young despite being around for a long time is because he's basically a god. Characters like Orion and Darkseid are a species of people known as New Gods. Also the older woman that you said looks like a witch isn’t Orion’s mother but a different character that I won’t say much on cause you’ll get to know her more. Also New Genesis and Apokolips are basically twin planets so they are basically close by each other but they exist in a realm outside space and time called Fourth World. The way they are able to travel is through boom tubes, which are the portals that you saw Orion and Darkseid use to come to Earth. The reason for the episodes being dedicated to Jack Kirby is not only because he had passed two years before these episodes but also because the character of Dan Turpin was actually based on him. Another thing is the realm Fourth World, planets New Genesis and Apokolips and the characters like Orion and Darkseid were all originally created by Jack in the comics. Also while it was probably hard to tell during Dan's funeral, they actually added some other characters that Jack had a hand in creating as well from both DC and Marvel. I believe from what I read, the ones they had added were Scott Free (Mister Miracle), Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic), Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Johnny Storm (Human Torch), Nick Fury, Captain America, and Iron Man. They even added Stan Lee as well as he and Stan had a history together. What I also think is really cool about the funeral was that it was a Jewish funeral with a rabbi reading a Jewish mourning prayer as Jack was Jewish. So both these episodes were really a tribute to Jack using his characters. I definitely recommend reading up on Jack Kirby himself as he's a bit similar to Bill Finger in that they both don't get enough credit for the contributions they gave to the comic industry compared to say Stan Lee. But yeah these episodes were both bangers and your reactions to them are definitely going to be rewatches for me. When you said about how we want you to watch these shows and movies for you is right. For me at least, I love that your reactions are not fake or phoned in just for the sake of content and views. I've seen so many do that for playthroughs and reaction videos and it's why it's hard for me to ever want to invest my time or energy on creators like that. But for you Meg, at least from the games I've seen you play and the shows and movies you've reacted to so far, you're not fake. And your discussions and analyzation of a story or character always fascinate me. It's one of the reasons I stick around on here. Not only cause the movies and shows you watch are my favorites and I'm happy that someone new like you is watching them but also because I'm curious as to what you think of it yourself. So thanks Meg for continuing to always be you. Also can't wait for the final 2 part episode of season 2 and then we finally move on to season 3!

oh yes Orion's story is very good i would highly recommend jack Kirby's magnum opus of "Fourth world" stories: Kirby's run on "Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen The Forever People Mister Miracle and The New Gods

'The Greatest Hero' indeed. Naturally any character made as a tribute to Jack Kirby would violently resist a fascist regime to the very end. Another one that feels like it should have been a season finale, establishing Darkseid and all his minions as THE ultimate threat to Earth and indeed all worlds not under his heel, but also establishing their opposite in New Genesis and Orion. Perhaps the most memorable episode of the series, and your reaction was everything we'd hoped to see.

Not quite the season finale, though I feel like it should have been. I've actually been waiting a while for you to get to these episodes, just to give you this info.. annnnd someone's already beat me to it😄 but I'll mention it anyway, just because I've always found it really neat. That tribute at the end was dedicated to the LEGENDARY comic book artist: Jack Kirby, who co-created Captain America in 1940! And years later, alongside Stan Lee, did the same with The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Ant-Man, Black Panther, The Avengers, Nick Fury, Silver Surfer, X-Men, and many more! Later, he left MARVEL and joined DC, where he created Darkseid, Orion, Mr. Miracle, Big Barda, and the rest of the New Gods. Stan came up with the ideas, and Jack breathed life into them: https://www.toacorn.com/wp-content/uploads/images/2017-01-19/1p4.jpg . The design for Dan Turpin, at least in this show, was to look and sound like Kirby himself! Similar to the creators of Superman, him and Captain America co-creator Joe Simon were also both Jewish! The 1st issue cover had Cap punching Hitler in the face😂Cap and Supes are about as heroic as you can get when it comes to comics, who both show hope for the future, display the moral compass. Whilst striving for truth, justice, and the American way. Both have ditched being their country's 'poster boy' before too, Clark renounced his citizenship, and Steve has given up his Captain America identity at least twice now (btw 'Batman & Captain America' is an AMAZING read, Joker - "I may be a criminal lunatic, but I'm an American criminal lunatic!" lol). In the ending that originally aired, there were several cameos among the funeral mourners: Which included Stan Lee, Grant Morrison, Bruce Timm, Fantastic Four (Two of them are definitely the Storm siblings, Johnny and Sue), Tony Stark, Nick Fury, and a few more. Though due to copyright, I think these were cut on future releases. Here's the original ending https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uL8fzJRe7jU and a Reddit post telling you whose who https://www.reddit.com/r/DCAU/comments/t2yat0/original_dan_turpin_funeral_with_cameos/#lightbox

This was both a thrilling and sad season 2 finale two part episode and I knew you wasn't gonna like what happened at the end. Yes that Dan Turpin was definitely a real brave man standing up to Darkseid and his whole invasion, then he gets blasted by him like that. I really wish that hadn't happened cause he was an excellent ally for sure. Anyway time for season 3 next!

Jack Kirby had some rockin' eyebrows, as multiple people above mentioned they drew Dan Turpin to look like Jack Kirby. I love that. I think you're right, I got the impression that Darkseid at the very least is proud of his son Orion. The son Darkseid seems to like or respect is the one who hates Darkseid the most. There's some comicbooks and other media that show when Orion gets really angry his face takes on a demonic look, like taking after daddy Darkseid. So at points he can look a bit more like Darkseid.

It was too gruesome for the DC kid's shows to directly state, but "Parademonization" is what happens to the living beings on the planets Darkseid conquers, all turned into genetic soup and reformed into monsters, it's pretty horrific.

Captain America. Iron Man. Thor. Hulk. Fantastic Four. Silver Surfer. The Avengers. The X-Men. Black Panther. They all birthed from the creativity of Jack Kirby. Along his massive contributions to Marvel, he created everything relating to New Genesis and Apokolips, and the show modeled Dan Turpin, another creation of Kirby, after his likeness.
