Ooh, fun. This was my first R-rated movie growing up. I had trouble sleeping for weeks after.

Ingo_095

Aaaah Alien and Sigourney Weaver. 🥰 I've had such a huge crush on her since i saw this movie. I think she might be my favorite female protagonist in horror-sci-fi movies

Matthew Cronin

This is for sure my favorite horror movie

Fun fact about this movie, the original script didn't specify whether characters were male or female, the actors auditioned for whatever role fit them best. A lot of people like to think that Blade Runner and Alien are in the same cinematic universe, they both have dystopian grimy futures with mega corporations and human robots. It's not but it is very similar. "You're not a robot you're a human" five minutes later. WHAT A TWIST!!!! That was so funny. Great timing on that Meg. Ash was Bilbo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings. There's a deleted scene that shows what happened to Dallas, it's on youtube.

I think you two will love the sequel Aliens. Stranger Things and the Halo videogames borrow a lot from that movie. Edit: Alien and Aliens are classics. Alien 3 and 4 are .... something.

Zachery Gaskins

I think it was removed from the final cut because it breaks the continuity that Ripley can't get command access to Mother if Dallas is still alive.

I imagine it's easier to find the theatrical cut streaming, but Aliens (Director's Cut) is a real treat if you can get to it. Couple of pieces of trivia: 1) Dan Abraham and Ty Franck have said that Alien was a key inspiration for The Expanse series and its treatment of "working class" space labor. 2) You nailed the "male pregnancy horror" aesthetic the writers intended. 3) The practical effect portion of the "chest-burster" scene was kept a secret from the rest of the cast. That moment where John Hurt spasms and then explodes - that's their actual reactions.

They've already expressed interest in watching the whole franchise. Please don't try to influence their opinions ahead of time. Meg got through X-Men Origins: Wolverine and her reactions were great

FireBall_IA

Parker was more than a hero. He was a Union Man

Frankie H

That's a good point.

Idk if you found out after watching or someone told you, but Lambert is MTF trans as well. So the last 3 survivors are a woman, a black man, and a trans woman.

Omg, Alien! One of the greatest horror movies ever made, as well a sci-fi. ALIEN redefined suspense and tension, and the ensemble cast is incredible. The sounds are incredible, the atmosphere is incredible, the chunky design aesthetic... Actually the ALIEN Isolation game captured this mood very well and it's definitely paying most homage to the original ALIEN. I agree with others above that ALIENS (Cameron) might be a priority but less so many of the rest. ALIENS is very different from ALIEN, mores the archetype of the sci-fi action movie, at least from its time into the 2000s. It also absolutely nails the importance of an ensemble, with a whole handful of really really unique and memorable secondary characters. Like, Star Wars level memorable characters. (Also, I recommend the longer Directors Cut of ALIENS, just to spend more time with some characters and themes.) Can't wait to watch this reaction.

Meg this made my entire day. I just woke up five minutes ago and i ordered a tasty burger, and now i get to watch you watch one of my favorite sci fi films of all time. My day is made.

So glad you guys decided to watch this! a certified classic 👍 (Also be sure to watch the Special Edition version of Aliens, if you plan on watching that one. It'll make you love Ripley even more)
