My most recent ex definitely has that type of unresolved trauma where she copes by ignoring and sabotaging and avoiding and it made me so sad because I didn't want to give up on her like everyone else has and it's not her fault. Some people have to realize it on their own though. I only bring it up because it reminds me of how Amos is trying to show Peaches that she isn't a monster, but part of him is realizing that sometimes he needs to be one because that's the only way he knows how to survive. It's either all or nothing. I personally think that ending shows that it's a moment of healing for him to realize that he doesn't like how he behaved, which is unusual for him. He probably doesn't think anyone relates to him and also, no one has asks him the questions she's been asking him. The fact that he cares at all shows he isn't what he thinks he is. It's beautiful and complex writing and insanely well acted and I can't wait to see how you feel about the rest of the season!

Thanks for the shout out, Meg, totally unnecessary, but I appreciate it a lot. And, more importantly, it looks like the "pre-watch the ads" plan worked out! So glad it did. 🙂 Your insights into Amos and Clarissa as trauma & abuse survivors seem spot on to me, though I am very fortunate to have had a relatively strife-free childhood, so you would obviously know better than I. You're not imagining or misremembering about Amos' history; he's mentioned it a number of times. Up until this season, the references were always sort of oblique -- like, for instance, when he told Prax about how "where he comes from" there were powerful "bullies" who forced women into prostitution, and "use" their children as well. Amos' birth mother was one of those prostitutes, and he was one of the used children. He also spoke briefly to Charles (Lydia's husband/boyfriend/whatever) about that in more direct, more personal terms. Lydia, who tried to raise Amos (Timmy, actually) after his mom's death, was also from that world, as was Timmy's childhood friend Erich, whom we met a few episodes ago. There's a lot more to it and at some point you might want to read the novella The Churn, which is about Amos' childhood in Baltimore. Just know that, while it's a great story, it's more than a little disturbing, and might be a little triggering for you. But if you feel up to it, I think you would find it answers a lot of your questions and confirms a lot of your speculation. Amos has a very complicated relationship with his sexual self, as you can probably imagine, and so I think it's appropriate that his relationship with Peaches is more brother/sisterly and isn't romantic or physical. At least for now. I don't want to spoil anything by mentioning where the relationship does or does not go in the future, but right now at least (and maybe later, I'm not saying), I think a romantic or sexual relationship with Clarissa is just about the furthest thing from his mind. Right now, I think he's just trying to keep her (and himself) alive. About their conversation at the end: They didn't have any water recycler to offer in trade for weapons; that was just a line Amos used to try to get the prepper guy to lower his guard. I don't think Amos was planning on killing the guy, but I believe he absolutely intended to take stuff from him. Not because Amos is evil, just because he is "practical." Remember that, where Amos comes from, this is how everybody is. Everyone "looks out for #1" first and foremost. It's the tribal mentality he was talking to Clarissa about in the woods. He doesn't see it as malicious, he just sees it as necessary. But Amos also knows that his sense of ethics is a little off-kilter, and he has spent most of the five seasons of the show trying to become a better person. Peaches, with the help of her prison psychiatrist, is also trying to reform. I think Peaches is further along than Amos is in that regard, probably because her descent into full-on selfish, revenge-fueled sociopathy was relatively recent and short-lived, whereas Amos has been struggling with his moral center for most of his life. The two of them are good for each other, I think. And Clarissa certainly has a point about whether it was necessary to take advantage of that guy. As she said, he turned out to be a creep and a bad guy in his own right, but he might not have been, so I think she wanted to remind Amos that the ends in this case did not necessarily justify the means. In the end, what they did was probably necessary, but she wonders aloud *how* necessary it was, and Amos, who is very aware of his shortcomings, needed to hear that. (As you can see, you're not the only one obsessed with their relationship!) I've been blabbing long enough now, so I won't comment on anything else, but suffice to say, the Naomi/Filip/Marco thing is just getting started. There's a lot still to come, and it's not going to be pretty. Drummer, too, has just begun to suffer. And there is much more to come with Chrisjen's story line as well. Can't wait for you to take it all in. I'm really appreciating your commentary, so keep it coming. And one last thing: 100% agreed about narcissists with nuclear weapons, or in positions of power in general. Probably best not to dwell on the current-day political thing, but I'm just going to say that I voted (early) late last week, and I hope everyone in the US does the same (whenever and however they can). Like everyone, I'm exhausted by it all, but damn, is it important. Thanks, Meg! Glad you're enjoying (if that's the right word) season 5!

Beautiful comments above on Amos and Clarissa (Peaches). Their relationship is complicated and simple all at the same time. They survive because of each other! I just wanted to mention the scene between Drummer and Marco. I believe you know by now that Cara Gee was pregnant during the filming of S5. She and Keon are good friends (in fact the story is that Keon was with Cara and Dom Tipper when the show was cancelled in 2018 and was commiserating with them! Keon was subsequently hired to play Marco when the show was picked back up by Amazon and what an amazing choice!!) So in the scene where they are quite close and Drummer (Cara) is saying that they only need protection because of Marco, she is bumping Keon with her baby belly and probably trying to get him to laugh! Cara can be sneaky like that!! I thought it was pretty funny. They go out of their way to only film her chest up or her middle hidden by other characters etc. Just a funny BTS point.

Yep, the ship Bobby and Alex blew up was the same. It came over to capture them and then... well, Martian ingenuity happened 😉 Also true the crew from Camina is poly... the actors actually posted a few pictures labelling themselves as the "polyam-belter-fam" 😆 https://x.com/CaraGeeeee/status/1339591756216614916?lang=de There are quite a few messages in this show (and books) that resonate with me and sounds like you too, that aren't the usual ones... like the "Schrödinger parents" or Bull's "You think that just because somebody's the underdog, that means they're the good guy."
