You’ll probably get told this by many people, but the Extended Cut of this movie has a subplot running through it about Ripley’s actual 10 year old daughter Amanda having been left to grow old and die childless while Ripley was adrift in cryo, and how that informs both her trauma and her attempts at connecting with Newt throughout the film. The excellent (but difficult) game Alien Isolation features Amanda as its protagonist during her search for what happened to the Nostromo.

I feel like Alien 3 is gonna have to be prefaced by a massive trigger warning but I don’t even know how to give it without spoilers. Lets just say that due to one of the most catastrophically troubled movie productions I’m aware of, the crew kind of got themselves locked in to some… less than savory (or sensical) plotpoint early on in the film, and just had to make due with it. I still think the movie’s overall fairly decent (or at least the Assembly Cut is) but I perfectly understand how the inciting incident is a hurdle some people just won’t be willing to get past.

Definitely recommend the directors cut / extended edition. There's a lot of missing story beats in the theatrical for both Ripley and Newt (I'm sure you'll hear this a bajillion times) A semi non sequitur but I really recommend the Metroid series of games if you haven't played them, the main character Samus was imho originally inspired by Ripley (though there's a lot of debate about her later characterizations) and there are a huge number of inspirations in the series from Alien/Aliens. It's also a lot less horror than Isolation and much more exploration based.

I have seen almost all of the alien movies except Romolus, and this movie is still one of the best Alien and sci-fi movies of all time for me. I would "warn" you about some of the movies that came out later. There is a new and an older canon to this universe too, in the 2000s the AvP movies were canon now they're not considered canon due to Prometheus (2012) contradicting those movies (and the origins of the Xenomorph species), I also think, just like a lot of early 2000s horror movies and reboots are horrible, AvP Requiem is really REALLY BAD, I do recommend Isolation, Prometheus, and Alien 3, that are the better parts of this franchise. Non of these movies that I have seen are comperable to Alien, and Aliens imo, (I think a lot about Alien 3 that movie is also has a great allegory for unwanted pregnancy, and I consider it the end of the timeline)

We don't see Spunkmeyer actually die - he (the actor) goes on to be the chief Protogen scientist, Dr. Dresden, who gets shot in the head by Miller in The Expanse!

Romulus is worth watching. I feel like it's easily the third best of the franchise (though I know this is all subjective).

DrunkMattMurdock

I wanna watch it sooner or later, I just haven't had the time. I've heard really good things about it.

Either in your own time or if you choose to give Patreon a present, the directors cut is definitely worth a watch. Completely changes the context of Newt and Ripleys relationship for the better, as well as Ripleys trauma. It's also the story Sigourney wanted, according to Jim in the directors cut commentary she was a little disappointed by the theatrical cut.

One of the points of reaction videos is that they mean the viewer can discover things and not be influenced by comments like yours. Let Meg watch what she wants to watch. Don’t “warn” her. That defeats the point of reaction videos.

I don't think my comment's going to influence her and Calebs reaction in any way. I only sad I warn them, because the general audiance hated that movie, that doesen't mean they can't watch and maybe even enjoy those movies. Moreover the "warning" was more for the fact that those movies are not considred canon anymore, and that still doesen't mean that those movies are bad onyl, that they don't take part in that franchise anymore. This comment is only hear to share my experiance, opinion and some facts to look out for in the future, as the casual viewer doesen't know about this.

I've seen this movie many times and I'm still not sure whether Vasquez and Drake were platonic best friends or lovers. Vasquez and Drake are always seen together, sit together, do pull-ups together, and both disobey orders and hide their ammo together. Vasquez goes insane for a few seconds when Drake gets the acid to the face and dies. Drake was also in Shawshank, the prisoner who assaulted Andy repeatedly for years until the guards beat him half to death because Andy was valuable to the guards. So 4 actors in this are in Terminator 1 and 2. You already knew the Kyle Reese actor, but Bishop was one of the cops (actually a detective) who gets killed by the terminator in the police station massacre in Terminator 1. Bill Paxton (Private Hudson) is like the first or second person to get killed by the terminator, the street punks at the start of the first movie. Vasquez was John Conner's foster mom in T2. The actress is not actually a Latina. In James Cameron's Titanic she plays a poor Irish mom in steerage.
