I love how wonder women and Aquaman always have a rivalry probably because they’re both royalty

Grundy is being arrested because he tried to kill the justice league for money. Not that he’s evil he just misguided. Also, fun fact Grundy is one of the main inspirations for the Incredible Hulk.

Dr. Fate, Aquaman, and Grundy here are a homage to the Defenders team of Dr. Strange, Namor, and Hulk

update: tears

MikeAwesome25

Behold, the only episodes of the DCAU that brought me to actual tears. I can remember exactly where I was the night this premiered on Toonami like it was yesterday. God, I was 13 back then…

Black Zach

Hawkgirls mace, is made of Nth metal, which negates magic. That's why she had such an easy time against these mystical enemies/ could go toe to toe against Dt. Fate. Easily one of the best episodes, despite it being sad.

Also Jack Kirby is the guy they honored in that Superman episode

SO FAITH DEMANDS ! SO FAITH DEMANDS ! Honestly one of my favorite episodes(or pair of episodes) of JL. P.S. Rob Zombie did the voice of Icthultu .

Yes you've reached one of my other favorite episodes of this season and the series as a whole. I have mentioned the late great Dwayne McDuffie a couple times as he wrote some of the best stuff of this series and this is one of them. You are right that Icthultu is based on lovecraftian lore, specifically Cthulhu. The reason why they went with Icthultu was because Dwayne didn't know if Cthulhu was a trademarked property and only found out after they finished production of the episode that it was public domain. I love that this episode we got to see the return of Aquaman and Dr. Fate and his wife Inza. As well as Solomon Grundy, who at the beginning reminded me so much of Hulk since he was dealing with the military and the commander reminded me of General Thunderbolt Ross, especially since he had a mustache just like him. This was the first time I think you got to actually see what Solomon Grundy's origin was as you only read about it in Arkham City. Seeing Aquaman and Wonder Woman fighting gave me horrible flashbacks of them fighting in the Flashpoint movie. But I do like how the two people who come from royalty were the ones fighting. I also think this is the very first time you've heard Hawkgirl's name said in full, Shayera Hol and learned more about her home world of Thanagar as they once worshipped Icthultu. I honestly thought it was so sad seeing Grundy die and Hawkgirl crying after she and him had sort of bonded trying to defeat Icthultu. Scenes like that are one of the reasons why this show is just so good!

Solomon Grundy, Born on a Monday, Christened on Tuesday, Married on Wednesday, Took ill on Thursday, Worse on Friday, Died on Saturday, Buried on Sunday. This is the end of Solomon Grundy. Very unexpected convergence of characters resulting in a backstory reveal and heroic sacrifice for the unlikeliest of villains. This role really makes him look like a DC Hulk expy. First Karkull, then Unity and now Ichthultu (hey Fate, we could have used a little warning about Unity before it enslaved half of Smallville). DC loves their Lovecraft. The fight at the end of the first part arose from a simple misunderstanding and feels like padding, but won't complain too much when it's so well-animated. Thanks to Kryptonian biology, Superman usually gets a natural life span of thousands of years. But you can feel the mental burnout in him now. Battle after battle. 3 seasons of his own show plus 2 of Justice League (luckily, JLU gets 3 seasons). The same malaise that drove Dr. Fate to retire. Maybe it's partly that which makes him sometimes tempted to lean into the Justice Lords' solutions.

This episode was a good showing that the Nth metal Hawkgirl's mace is made out of is very good at stopping magic.

Brandon Gibbs

This episode was all about Grundy trying to make up for the mistakes of his past.

Both champions in a warrior culture too.
