Take a moment to imagine just how bonkers it would have been if they'd actually carried through with this. We ARE on the last few of the final season of the show after all. They could have edited Superman out of the intro to really drive it home. But of course, then we wouldn't get the amazing powerless bearded beast-taming Superman arc, followed by the redemption of Vandal Savage. It's said most people mellow with old age, but for him I think it was more seeing the end results of his desire for domination. There was an elseworlds storyline set in the 30th century that has old Superman with a massive white Zeus beard; very visually striking. Incredible episode. But would you believe if I said that the next one is even better?

Livewire has Hawkgirl's VA in this episode

Easily one of the best in the series. Like your absolutely correct with that. I love them doing the emotional weight with the death of Superman, and then seeing our boy rough it with Vandal. Definitely a defining Superman episode/ I love how while Batman is right, we both know we also know he was secretly coping. These character moments really make the show. Side note I love moments when superheros stop holding back, and that scene with Wonder Woman is one of my favs, like the whole team is dealing with Toymans mech one minute, then she just singlehandedly takes it down lol highlight for Diana for sure. Also we got a Lobo appearance, wish we got more but this was cool! Next episode is great too and a return of a fan favorite

Yeah that's right Meg, this was another DEATH OF SUPERMAN situation going on! I also knew he couldn't be dead. He was just sent to the future which was in shambles and throughout that whole journey without his powers he once again showed that he's quite the survivor, thanks to everything he obviously learned from his adopted parents. Also it was amazing how Vandal Savage really changed ever since he did what he did and then helped Superman to return home to his present time and then they obviously stopped Savage and restored the future. Now I hope you don't take too long to get to the next episode.

This is one of my favorite arcs in Justice League. I love when Vandal says, "Say you want to come over to my house?" He's so excited to have someone to hang out with. I like to imagine that Superman talked to the younger version of Vandal and explained their adventure in the future and what would happen if he continued to try to take over the world. It's the logical thing to do. I would also like to believe that Vandal believed Superman and did change his ways at this point.

I was waiting for this episode since it has one of my favorite arcs ever of the series. I'm not surprised you think this might be the best of the series. Maybe after you finish this and Justice League Unlimited, you can do ranking of your top favorite episode cause I'm curious to see which ones you love the most after you see them all. You are right that this was basically this show's Death and Return of Superman. And while characters dying and coming back is not new since it has happened in the comics multiple times, it still hits pretty hard when they do die. You read stories about these characters and you become so invested in their journey with the relationships and experiences they have that you feel like you are also a part of their life. So when they end up being killed off, it feels like losing a family member or friend. And the way they conveyed everyone's feelings mourning Superman was done so beautifully. With Batman, I love that he was the only one that didn't fully believe that Superman was dead. Which is very much in character since Bruce will always be skeptical of things and never just believing something just cause someone tells him or if he may see it with his own eyes. He will want to apply his own logic and reasoning to it all. But I do love that once he started to doubt, he shared his feelings at Superman's memorial. It's one of the reasons why I love their friendship because only in private would they ever share the respect and adoration they have for one another, especially Bruce since he's not usually the type of person to open up. I did love seeing Superman's outfit and appearance changing in the future, especially with the beard. Part of me wants to see David's Superman do this look some time down the line since we've seen photos of David with a beard and he could easily pull something like this off. I knew that once we were introduced to Vandal Savage in this show, it was only a matter of time until we got to this episode. I'm glad that this episode made you look at him differently than before. I think this shows the difference between Ra's Al Ghul and Savage as both are immortal but the thing is that Ra's has been driven mad by the constant use of the Lazarus Pit so it has warped his mind so much that he can't see the harm he is doing. Whereas with Savage, while it took thousands of years, he was finally able to realize what he had done and decides to punish himself with eternal loneliness on a destroyed planet that he caused. It's like you talked about if some people are worthy of redemption, the arc that Vandal goes through is something I'm sure we wish some people we know IRL would go through. Unfortunately not everyone can go through that because no one is immortal and/or has thousands of years to think about things. And also not everyone is worth redemption. The ending of the future Vandal seeing the people and the world come back while he ceases to exist and saying "thank you my friend" before disappearing was amazing. It's again one of the reasons why I love this show so much Also I did love seeing Lobo here, even if he was making things harder for the Justice League. Makes me wonder how Jason Momoa is going to portray him and what kind of a role he'll play in the greater DCU. But thanks for another awesome reaction Meg! We are almost done with this series and then I hope at the same time you're reacting to Justice League Unlimited, that you do Batman Beyond as well

Toyman is creepy, but I don’t think in a predatory way. I can definitely see why you think that way, and there other DC characters that are 100% predatory (Mad Hatter in some of the comics. I see Toyman’s creepiness in the way marionette dolls are, because that’s what he essentially is. Toyman is stunted, traumatized by the injustice his father faced then growing up as an orphan. He never grew up, but isn’t charming like other characters in similar situations, which adds to the ick factor. He’s a manchild who just lives for revenge, and for at least this version of the character, it doesn’t go any deeper than that. To be clear, I’m absolutely not he’s a sympathetic character beyond his backstory, just explaining what I think the character is being portrayed as. I find his flavor of creepiness darkly funny, especially the whimsical way he said “Superman go bye-bye” as he’ seemingly kills him.

Almost near the end and im sure people have already told u but good thing is it doesn’t end here and there are three more seasons that they retitled justice league unlimited so plenty more adventures and characters to be introduced to and doesn’t even end there either lol

Steve Harvey Dent

God I hope batman beyond next especially since it's tide to justice league unlimited

This is my favorite superman episode in JL and definitely one of the best JL episodes I couldn't wait for you to get! Savage gets very interesting as a villain in this one. I just love how clark is so capable even without his powers.
