WB is being terrible with copyright and blocking silent and blurry videos, so I hope it's clear enough to set up the watchalong! Can't wait to hear what you guys thought of the pilot! 💚💚💚

Kinda giving Men In Black 1 vibes. While I am a bit relieved that they don't "seem" to be doing the Surf Dracula thing where all of intergalatic Green Lantern stuff is mostly absent until the very last episode, I think I need to see a bit more before I can properly gage how I feel.

Love seeing my Jamaican brother Aaron Pierre becoming a superstar. Also HBO doesn’t miss, they brought prestige to the Lanterns. I hope you watch HBO’s The Penguin too, you can rewatch The Batman before but the show refreshes your memory so that you don’t need to.

Completely agree with what you said about willpower. From all of the Green Lantern stuff that I've consumed the common theme towards what makes someone a Green Lantern isn't simply just being fearless, instead to be a Green Lantern one must have the ability to overcome great fear. That said, I'm sure different writers and people have different interpretations.

I was not expecting to get to this show right away but I'm here for it. While I haven't seen the show, Lanterns feels very much like what they pitched it to be, which was True Detective but with Green Lanterns. This feels so different to the Superman and Supergirl movies, despite being in the same universe as them. Feels very much like a western crime drama They really established a lot in this one episode. One that Hal Jordan became a Green Lantern in 1986, revealed his identity with that interview John and his siblings were watching in 1996, training John in 2016 and then is dead in 2026. Yeah that scene with John's father shooting the apple off his head was insane and unhinged. From what I know in the comics, John's father, Henry Stewart was abusive to him and his mother before bailing on them but they don't really dive any deeper in the comics. Here, John's father, John Stewart Sr., is a Marine and abusive but in a different kind of way as he's using extreme and harsh conditioning to raise John to be without fear. Also the whole without fear thing, the show seems to be taking inspiration from the Silver Age comics since originally to become a Green Lantern you had to be without fear. Another thing they seem to be taking from the Silver Age is they showed in the preview for the next episodes is the Green Lantern suit is a physical practical suit that you can hang up in a closet rather than it coming from the ring and manifesting it around your body. However as CookieWrapper mentioned, the modern interpretation to become a Green Lantern that Geoff John's run established is that to be chosen, you have to have the ability to overcome great fear. I am curious how much of the Guardians were going to get and if we are going to learn more about them in this show cause from what I know, there's a lot that goes into them besides being the creators and bosses of the Green Lantern Corps. I'm also curious, besides the explanation of how Hal is dead in 2026, why Hal seemed to change between 2006 to 2016 as we see from the "Halogram" that John was talking to that Hal seemed much nicer in 2006 compared to the 2016 Hal whose training John and seems more jaded and cynical. I'm also curious how they'll explain where Guy Gardner comes into this since we know he's a Green Lantern in the Superman movie but also where was Hal and John during that point. I'm also hoping we dive deep into learning more about Sinestro too since the rivalry and history between him an Hal is considered one of the best in DC. But thanks for this Meg! Also not sure if Martian Manhunter might be in it but who knows. I am glad you did research his origin at the end. Also yeah his name is pronounced as John Jones and not John Johns as the detective he becomes, John Jones, is how you say his Martian name

Armando Castillo

John is architect in the comics too. So him doing a little sketch is a nod to that.
