your empathy towards the prometheon and the iron giant reminds me of a Director Ishiro Honda (Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, King Ghidorah, Ultraman) quote on kaiju (giant monsters) "Monsters are tragic beings. They are born too tall, too strong, too heavy. They are not evil by choice. That is their tragedy. They do not attack people because they want to, but because of their size and strength, mankind has no other choice but to defend himself. After several stories such as this, people end up having a kind of affection for the monsters. They end up caring about them."

I kept thinking of Irongiant also and the creature was never really intentionlly hurting anybody it was built to do work and it was trying to do that and I like that Superman never really tried to fight it, he hit it a few times but him and the doctor coming up with a strategy was sound. Idk how to feel it was definately symbolic since it never spoke and with its actions it felt like a toddler

Yeah, they definitely wanted you to empathize with him, but I think they also wanted to show that there really was no good options with him. If they didn’t subdue him, he’d keep going after heat sources and endangering others. His limited intelligence means they would not be able to teach him to change his ways, he would always operate on survival instinct. It’s tragic, and absolutely not the creature’s fault, but I think this episode is meant to show that sometimes, even for Superman, there just aren’t any good choices.

This reaction convinced me that Meg needs to watch the Godzilla/Kong movies. They show how the creatures are like humans with emotions and the concept of man vs nature. ^^

yep i very much agree. i'd also add ultraman as well as it is a recurring them in the franchise with some of the kaiju are not inherently bad but still need to be dealt with. she might particularly like ultraman cosmos since that series is just as much about saving kaiju as it is about saving people

I think the creature saw the moon at the end as another food source, what with all the reflected light that comes off of it. I think. Now Metropolis has a giant frozen alien robot in its reservoir forever I guess.

'Who is the monster and who is the man?' Lex Luthor's not the only Xenophobe on the block. Very Godzilla/Iron Giant-esque and more of a spectacle than most episodes. Now you really need to catch Gargoyles.

THIS. As good, AND as strong as Kal is, even He has His limits. WTF am I so teary writing this, eugh...

I WOULD DIIIIIIIIIIE FOR MEG TO WATCH GARGOYLES. Like literally D I E.

I don't know much about this one but I guess that titan creature wanted to be put to rest or something.
