Aaaaand another finale for ya!

My mind is blown. A new frontier!

I didn't get to talk about what Protomolecule Miller said at the end, but it's so cool that he'll be embarking on an adventure with the alien version of his dead friend. And that they're both curious about this dead civilization!

Thank you for your patience ❤❤❤❤❤

I think still my favorite episode of TV, and when it aired I was so excited knowing they had planned it as a series finale but that the fans had saved the show and we were going to get more after all <3. So glad to have you with us!

I get a kick out of Holden every time he gets annoyed at Miller, both living and proto versions 😂

So many rewatches and I never noticed those animal pens on the Behemoth/Nauvoo until now. That's what I love about this show, reactors notice some stuff that I miss after several watches. Also, I'm so glad about Diogo getting smooshed. I don't recall any Diogo fans. Season 4 should be fun, it's the first amazon produced season.

Love this show so much. The ending was so amazing and that's how we all thought the show would end, glad it was renewed at Prime.

lmao at the intro singing comment. You should record your own fake cover and just overdub it every time the intro comes on.

That would be one way to get around the copyright trolls, wouldn't it? :)

It is a sad moment... you finished S3, meaning that, like most of us, you never experience S3 again with fresh eyes and get completely surprised. The good part: It has been so worth it, and if you rewatch you will (not just S3, but every season) find soooo many details and Easter Eggs, that it still is worth it rewatching this show several times. And of course because this show is so unbelievably incredible in general.

Always enjoy your reactions and thoughtful commentary, Meg - and welcome back! It was worth the wait and totally understandable, given your many online projects, along with what I'm sure are the responsibilities and commitments of your actual life as well. Don't ever feel bad about that. Although, you know, you should post as often as possible, too. Oh, did I say that out loud? No, seriously, it's the quality I follow you for, not the quantity. Always worth it. Regarding Ashford's backslide here, yeah, it's disappointing, but we can always hope it is temporary. I think I can find it in my heart to to forgive him (as much as you can forgive a guy who shot a loyal beratna in the head, anyway) because he was under a tremendous amount of stress and was convinced he was doing the right thing, based on reasonable evidence. He's a product of his life experience, after all, making progress toward being a better man in fits and starts, like the rest of us. And also, David Strathairn sells it incredibly well. We're so lucky to have him in the cast. On to Season 4. I'll be interested to see what you think of it. The show takes a bit of a left turn in Season 4; really it's sort of shifting gears, setting up the next trilogy of the story, and so there's a bit of a shift in both pace and tone in at least the beginning of the season. It also gets *really* dark at some points. I love the season, though, because it has some of the best character moments and best written scenes of the show. And it *looks* amazing. In my opinion, of course. Will be interested to see how it works for you. Looking forward to the ride.

I was just thinking that the funny thing about Diogo is that he takes pretty much the opposite trajectory of most of the characters in this show. Most people in this show are pretty "sus" at the outset, and sometimes even do or say some pretty bad stuff, but then somehow they grow, and grow on us as well, and within a few episodes -- half a season or so -- we start thinking they're not so bad. And then a little later they're our favorite people. Diogo, though, takes the opposite path. He starts off kind of a goofy kid and you think he just needs to grow up a little and he'll be fine. And he kind of starts that way, too, but then, a couple of conversations with Anderson Dawes was all it took to turn him into "that little shit," which he pretty much continues to be until his (un?)fortunate demise. Oh well, Diogo, as you observed back in Season 2, it was all bonus time for you anyway. RIP. But you can definitely go away.

I was very excited to hear that you wanted a Clarissa redemption arc! I am not even sure that you saw that what she did after attacking Ashford was to reverse the buffer the way Ren had told her not to do so that the power would be disrupted and by doing this she saved the entire Human race!! She finally did something even more amazing than her sister Julie who after all only saved planet Earth! (with Miller's help). I also like to point out that the fight between Bobbie and her female marine took longer than most fights with Bobbie because her fellow soldier is equally well trained. Ty likes to make a point of this that Bobbie was well matched here and took longer to win the fight. Also Bobbie was doing her best to protect her two wayward Marines: she yells for them to "stand down!" when they start to fire and then fights the female Marine to stop further violence against her friends. She even takes a bullet for them! It is kind of scary how much The Expanse mirrors our own failings as human beings on a daily basis in the present. More and more these days. I hope we can all learn from a show like this, my fervent hope and prayer for all of us.

Rewatching these episodes again for these reaction watch-alongs and I definitely have to rate this back half of season three as one of my favorite TV arcs. Just chef's kiss.

One of the great bits of writing that I love involving Clarissa in this episode is when she asks Ashford if he thinks doing a truly good thing at the end of your life can make up for all of the terrible things you've done. When he replies "I'd like to believe that is true, yes." it's obviously him thinking about how he murdered many people as a pirate and caused a lot of pain to others and now he's going to save the human race, whereas Clarissa is trying to think about how to stop the ship. Following that, Holden's "we're scared, we're hurt and we're reaching for violence" whilst the camera shows Clarissa, is another great piece of writing/filmwork. This for me is the best episode of the series because you get so much from the first three books tied up, and with the absolutely beautifully epic reveal of over 1300 ring-gates opening at the end you finally understand why this series is called The Expanse.

When the season - and this episode - was in production, they knew there was a good chance that they would be cancelled and it would be the final season for the show. As such, they wanted to end the show at a point that wrapped up a lot of loose ends, while leaving a possible jumping off point for future seasons. Of course they were cancelled but then, thankfully, picked up by Amazon.

When you think about it, it's kind of funny that Ashford seems to keep having these allegorical conversations with people where he means one thing but they take away something entirely different. It happened here with Clarissa, and it happened earlier in the season when he was telling Naomi about how nostalgia can trick you into remembering only the good things about something in your past. Ashford was trying to tell Naomi that she was fooling herself by being nostalgic about her time on the Rocinante, but what it his speech actually made her realize how nostalgia was fooling her into only remembering good things about her time with the OPA. He keeps unintentionally convincing people to do things that don't work out very well for him. Poor guy. I suppose a lifetime as a pirate doesn't really help you develop communication skills, no matter how much wiser you are for the experience.

Definitely one of the best seasons and season finales I've ever watched of tv regardless of genre! Then again "The Expanse" goes down as the best thing I've ever watched on a screen tv or movie so S3 is an easy win for best ever!
