Melkor

Yessss! But nooo cus no edited reaction. :(

Jack SV

Thanks for the update ladies :)))

HenryM

I was kinda hoping you'd name this "The Dragon Show 2x01" lmao

Melkor

Jace actor is the same one from episode 8 and forward from last season just saying.

Melkor

At 12:05 ish you are 100000% correct. As a diehard book reader myself I haven’t had that many issues with the show tbh and it’s been very good even when taking its liberties from the book. But that scene when Rhaenys came up and killed a bunch of innocent people except the king who usurped the rightful Queen (Aegon is also not as comically evil he was made to be in s1 so far s2 has depicted him more accurate to the book since he wants to be a liked king as you see in the episode) just to have a girl boss moment was truly the lowest part of the show. Only thing out of very few things I have massive complaints about tbh. In the books that didn’t happen to my memory and also Aegon’s dragon sunfyre (extremely beatify dragon not yet seen in the show) was at his coronation and would have attacked Rhaenys immediately if sunfyre attended the coronation in the show.

Sebastian

i think rhaenyra spoke a total of 4 words the entire ep and yet they still carried the emotional weight of the ep. (also its my birthday today and i didnt expect hotd being the 1st slot this week so thanks🫡)

Nezumis

Nice, was waiting for this! But please, don't tell me you have planned to watch The Boys without watching Gen V before :(

Timothy Smith

Got the guns out for HOD, we see you 😂

Wallas

Ranking its not over?

Salvatore

Hated what they did with cole's character, but this is only the first episode, they might explain wtf that was other than that the episode was great.

Melkor

Fun fact since I don’t know how the show will represent her reaction but Rhaenyra in the books was while not ordering his dead specifically was rather okay with Aegon’s sons death. Both sides in the book are more sinister and are okay with way more horrible shit to put it lightly lol. I like the show too but imo the show made it too much of a good vs evil narrative. Non spoiler video I highly suggest watching which gives info on this first episode and can expand your knowledge. I promise it’s safe to watch. https://youtu.be/YxsznRf4xwM?si=nKVy5KdV6Jjq8EX6

no, daemon said a son for a son in his first scene. we then see blood say the same line. daemon ordered it.

Melkor

You should be happy it want the book version of Blood and Cheese. In the books everything is described and showed when they kill the son. She also points at the other son (she has another one not shown in the show in the books) in hopes that they would kill the youngest one and not the heir. In the show it seems she pointed at the heir in hopes they wouldn’t believe her.

also they should only watch the show, the books dont even have characterization for most characters. the show is its own canon according to GRRM.

Melkor
>>141223784

I haven’t said anything about that tho so why mention it? I’m aware Daemon ordered it lol.

Sone

I was as happy as you girls when I recognize it's the Starks and Winterfell and I was expecting it . I think you will like Cregan Stark and I will leave it at that .

Melkor
>>141223784

I’m aware but that doesn’t mean the show is better than the books in every way. They are good in different ways but I think the books still are superior.

Dario Campos

So much spoilers, no one cares you have read the books guys, shut your mouth for god sake

The Rhaenys thing is true, but from what I remember the stuff about Aegon in s1 was in the book as well. If anything, they toned down some of what the book says about him (though the whole thing is full of unreliable narration, so it's hard to say how true everything is). I don't think they've changed his characterization, it's just that even awful people are multifaceted. He can be an awful person and still want to be a good ruler.

I mean, I think with the book you also have to take into account that its entire narrative is unreliable. We don't actually know the truth of quite a few things, because so much of it is being told not only long after the fact, but from various biased sources. For me, one of the interesting things about the show has actually been in making some of the characters less sinister. For me, that makes them feel more realistic and compelling. And it could very well have been closer to the truth, even in the book.

Well in that case that specific part is not fresh in my memory but I don’t remember him being a rapist in the books. Also him and Rhaenyra are pretty much equally horrible in the books if you remember since the blacks do a lot more intentional assassinations in cold blood without a care in the world. Like both sides in the book are more grey that is 100% true since neither side has much of a moral high ground is my point. I think I lean to preferring that more than the vilification the show has done to the greens while making Rhaenyra much more good and perfect in the show. But hey I’m a sucker for nuance and gret characters and most people probably aren’t. In the books Rhaenyra wasn’t exactly outraged over the blood and cheese thing and rather okay with it. I’m guessing the show will go 180 and have her say Daemon is horrible just to give her more of that good vs bad narrative. At least Daemon is extremely accurate to his book counterparts since he’s a antihero and was both loved and hated in the books.

If they watch the Amazon recap, it should also work. For me personally, The Boys Season 4 is so far worse than Gen V, which is a great show. Somehow it feels like some characters are stuck in their development and not moving forward. I've even fast-forwarded and skipped scenes because it annoyed me. I really hope that the season will be convincing in the end. It's probably also a build-up for the fifth season, which is supposed to be the last.

While the sources were contradictory (like they are with everything in that book) Aegon being a rapist was definitely not an invention of the show. One of the accounts in the book straight up said he was at the child fighting pits while also…paying for the “services” (gag) of a very young girl. And it noted that he had a tendency to “fondle” any women or girls who worked in the castle. So…the show has been portraying him quite accurately from the start. And I also enjoy morally grey characters a lot, but I find the ones in the show feel more like that than the book counterparts, with some exception. At least to me.

Melkor

So in your opinion you find Rhaenyra accurately portrayed from how she is in the books and you don’t agree with me that she’s been made much more good guy main character than she was in the books? And again I’ll have to re read the Aegon parts cus his character isnt fresh in my memory completely but I do feel a classic villain has been made out of him in s1 as to portray him like a Joffrey character which he isn’t similar or close to at all. Rhaenyra in difference has little in similarity to her flaws in the books where she on multiple times murders or indirectly is fine with the death of innocents and this is just one of other examples I probably can dig up. Like Rhaenyra is the rightful queen and I’m fully on the black side but she’s just too perfect for me in the show. I prefer the version where both sides are questionable and have many serious flaws and it’s not a simple evil vs good faction split. And again you either believe the Maester or Mushroom or both in certain things. It’s like a history book where the source from 600 years ago must be taken with a pinch of salt. Still doesn’t mean all either say are wrong.

Melkor
>>141220446

A good example I realized is Aemond in the books intentionally murders Luke but in the show it was an accident.

Spoiler* This season is everyone confronting their past but it does feel like a repeat. Frenchie's storyline especially is boring so far to me and even hughie's mom coming back. But for the rest i think its good but it is not as good by the boys standards. Also firecracker's motivation feels weak.

Dammy Oshikoya

Hey girls, just to let you know you should watch Gen V first then The Boys S4

cosmotron
>>141220446

I mean, I’m not saying they haven’t changed her character. But a lot of the book was written from the pov of sources that were extremely biased against her, and more than likely embellished a lot of her actions. That goes for a lot of the characters. For me, in the show they feel more realistic, while the book made them out to be more one dimensional with how awful they could be. They can and will still be awful in the show, but for me I think balancing it out with these softer elements makes them feel more well rounded.

Melkor
>>141220446

Well then on that point I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree (mostly). Imo Rhaenyra was changed from nuanced and grey character to a much more righteous and good character that was to stand out specifically from 80% of the green family which they very much have made out to be the bad side and evil side. Some commentators even compared Aegon to Joffrey of all fucking people and make Otto out to be a person completely devoid of morals and emotions while cheering the black side like it’s a game. And I can’t believe I’m defending the greens since I’m a black supporter in reality. I just think it went too far with its good and bad side categories. Only character I’m kinda happy with are Daemon and I suppose Aemond tho he was still even scarier in the book. Best adaption was easily Viserys tho.

stfucedric

Some other people have mentioned it, but you guys should definitely watch Gen V before you watch The Boys S4

Mike

In the books, dragons can apparently change their sex -- "as changeable as flame," according to one character -- but it's all very mysterious.

Kya Colosseum

In the youtube reaction I think the word you're both looking for is pitiful, but know exactly what you mean when you call them pathetic. Can't wait to see what the rest of the season has to offer considering we've started off with Blood and Cheese, really hoping there are no Rhaenys bursts through the floor moments like last season

@BigJo That is a little too detailed. Maybe you should put a spoiler warning in front of it.
