Aglio Olio

Back from the gym, freshly showered and was about to have lunch, perfect timing lol

Michael Blake

Whoever told you season 1 is the worst is insane. It is often considered the greatest season of a show ever lol.

David King

I have no idea how you 2 aren't watching 3-4 episodes of the show everyday. 1-2 is not enough Sopranos

Jack SV

Wait.. was that shoebox always there? I never noticed it before lol I always thought it was furniture or something else holding that mic.

enchantertim

I wanted to watch the new reaction video for The Sopranos yesterday, I compromised, I watched The Penguin instead ...which is basically Sopranos-light really (it even has a Livia knock-off lol)

Sebastian

new graphic thumbnails, an upgraded camera but that shoebox mic stand will stand throughout all eras

Damien Fenton

Really looking forward to this reaction. Also, sorry to keep mentioning The Godfather but there is a subtle link to that movie with Tony buying orange juice right before his assassination attempt. Hint: You guys really need to see that movie ;)

Derek Suboticki

You've done an admirable job resisting the urge to give in and binge this show. I am encouraging you to do a shittier job. Binge. Binge!

They really need to watch the Godfather.. this show makes a shitload of references to that movie.

jack you’ve been here a long time, and you failed to see we always had a shoebox, we’re professionals

Damien Fenton

Lola at the beginning: "Is he imagining her". She has seriously good instincts for plots.

To be fair, you couldn't see the box and microphone completely until they had the new camera / moved the camera further back :D

Mark M

Love it when they post a reaction early. This and the next episode are gonna be fire.

It’s an amazing season of television and one of the best first seasons of any show, but I think a lot of people would say it’s the least or second-least best of the show, just for certain inconsistencies that get ironed out as the show rolls forward.

Thomas De Peña

The combination of Lithium and Prozac can cause hallucinations. Anybody who knows that can deduce the plot, which I like because that’s playing fair while having a twist. With that said, it’s impressive that Lola sniffed it out without knowing that fact.

Darrach

The way Tony has his head tilted as he walks back up the stairs at dinner is so funny to me. Like he’s already picturing being back in bed and can’t wait to see it for himself lol

The show is savy about that though. They did shoot it in a weirdly dreamlike fashion (flowly curtains, same dress as she pointed out), but threw in enough other elements to sow some doubt about it. Even the scene where Carmella notices her, that was also shot differently than the other Carmella scenes and she approached him out of nowhere with a strange smile where every other scene felt more normal in terms of the flow.

Veya

I'm wondering if I'm the only one slightly mixed about this ep. I still thought it was good overall and liked the twist (more that Tony was the baby in the fantasy (within a fantasy) than the fake lady one). I think it was mainly the assassination attempt though. There were good parts (like linking the song from the beginning of the ep to that scene) and overall there were very cinematic shots but they kind of forced one dude to literally reach in closer for Tony to grab the gun. Anyways, the next episode is very good.

From the beginning of the show, Lívia talks about mothers who kill their children, it's all connected to her actions towards Tony

Veya
>>150189158

I mean...he kind of looks like season 5-6 tony with just heavier makeup lol. Colin farrell was even asked about sopranos in an interview because i guess people kept making comparisons.

Jay Craig

Almost died laughing at Lola’s heart stopping when Milena touched her face

When the project was first announced, Colin Farrell himself said it's gonna be like The Sopranos for the DC universe or something like that. I found the first episode weak though. Next to the Sopranos the show looks like a parody

Veya

Regarding infanticide: Remember livia talked about smothering them with a pillow when tony's dad wanted to take them to nevada, in that same episode flashback she threatened to stick a fork in tony's eye. The pilot episode where junior told livia, drastic actions may need to happen (in the mob this really means one thing, usually), her expression was uneasy but she didn't exactly protest which is impulsively what most mothers would do, related to the mob or not. There was probably more hints that I'm not thinking of right now but overall the season did foreshadow it. She may have tortured tony mostly mentally in the past but she had no real reason to do anything further. Remember all season long she felted slighted by being put in a old person's home and she found out tony tried (or did sell?) her house and the was the final straw. But the capability was implied to have been always there from context clues throughout the season.

Oh I wasn't aware of that. It does seem like that's what they're attempting so makes sense then. Also, fittingly Cristi Milioti was in Sopranos as well. Small part though so most people probably won't remember or recognize her. I only know her from How I Met Your Mother lol.

enchantertim
>>150189158

Yeah she was Johnny Sack's daughter. I recognized her as well on my 3-4th rewatch back in the day. She had such a small role though because she was basically unknown before HIMYM

lithium toxicity is usually caused by dehydration, the prozac might not have contributed. Tony was too depressed to get out of bed so he probably wasn’t drinking nearly enough

You know a show or anime is freudian if it has a main character that wants to return to the womb/be a baby receiving motherly love Love how understated Aj’s emotions are. He feels like a real little boy

enchantertim

This show has phenomenal soundtrack. Some great song choices that are forever deeply associated with Sopranos for me. Also love the surrealistic nature of this episode. Dream/daydream sequences are some of the best aspects of this show. When Tony transported to that scene where Isabella is nursing the baby, I don't know, it feels profound, beautiful and deeply emotional to me, I don't know how to explain. And when later Tony, with his amazing emotional acting, tells to Melfi how he wanted to live, then explains the daydream and that apparently Isabella was telling "it's okay, don't cry" to the baby, oh man, it hits. Even the toughest men resorting to their infant state during their vulnerable moments is so interesting to me. I think we all have that one way or another deep in our subconscious.

JBK405

No, you're absolutely correct that the relationship between Tony and Dr. Melfi has crossed the professional boundaries. That is very understandable given the intensity of what he goes through and how it comes out in their sessions, but regardless of how understandable it is they're way past the line. How that changes in the future....well...we're all eager to see you find out.

Jesse S

Absolutely fantastic episode! It’s been so awesome rewatching the show with your reactions I only just saw the show for the first time a couple months ago and I’m loving the show even more on rewatch!

Season 1 being the worst is probably the most common ranking people have of the seasons.

fe de

I have tried very hard to watch this show along with you but i don’t think i can resist anymore…

BNJ
>>150193284

yeah the "hitmen" were very sloppy, definitely not as good as Mikey was saying they were.

Michael M

I also deducted that she intended to have Tony killed. You know, come to think of it, all of this mess started when the pool was deduckted. Coincidence? I think not.

Michael M
>>150189408

I started my rewatch when they started Ep 1. I'm halfway through Season 5 lol.

Nina

I'm late cause I'm catching up but wanted to give a tiny bit of insight on therapists getting emotional about their client. The job isn't to not be emotionally involved at all, we are all human, and being empathetic is important, it's okay to cry even in front of your client. The only issue is if your emotional involvement gets in the way of you being able to do your job, and that's something she has to consider herself. Just some personal experiences of myself: I've seen therapists cry several times, and my therapist one time said she was worried about me when she was on vacation. That's all fine, again, you're not expected to be a steel trap, you're allowed to worry about clients in your off time and be sad about them, you just need to be able to keep your mental state intact and do your job to your best ability.

I noticed it’s even better on second and third watch myself. You notice little things that makes the show a work of art. Think it’s the only tv show I consider art.

Paul Walker

I remember thinking when this episode originally aired the bullet breaking the bottom of the orange juice bottle was a nice homage.

I completely disagree this is not a show that should be binged on a first watch.
