Andor 2x02 Full

Happy Holidays. Nice drop on Christmas Eve. And he gets away. We get Dedra with her hair down. The complexity on Chandrila. Bix is attractive, i.e., she smart, can work with her hands, cares about people, striking physical appearance, etc.

"Bix is attractive" you do realize this can be seen as a form of "victim blaming", or of trying to "rationalize" the exploitative/abusive behavior of a predator? it shouldn't matter if the victim is "pretty" or not - what matters is that the victim has lower social and institutional power/status and that the perpetrator is using their higher position to take advantage.

Exactly right. It's amazing how 3 words can completely dilute the power imbalance and make such a threatening encounter something so mundane and hand-waveable

Joseph Olson

"Hold your fire!" means stop shooting your weapon. Luthen's assistant's name is Kleya. The first syllable rhymes with "clay" and "play". Perrin's wedding speech shows just how mismatched he and Mon Mothma are. He has a hedonistic outlook on life. He doesn't care how much other people suffer living under the Empire, so long as he gets to enjoy his moments of pleasing sensations and fine meals, whereas Mon is fully committed to toppling the Empire, and makes many sacrifices and places herself in grave danger to help as many people as possible. She and her husband have nothing in common. One of the many problems with arranged marriages. Finally, the planet that Cassian was on with the Maya Pei brigade was Yavin. The battle that takes place at the end of the 1977 movie "Star Wars: A New Hope" is the Battle of Yavin, and takes place in the skies above this planet (technically a moon, but that's details). The dating system for years in the Star Wars galaxy is BBY/ABY (Before the Battle of Yavin and After the Battle of Yavin). The same thing as the way the Christian dating system uses BC/AD. This episode takes place in BBY4, so less than four years before the Battle of Yavin.

Bix is attractive. I thought Bix attractive in S1E1. Was that "victim blaming?" Since S1E1, I thought Bix attractive, and still maintain that I think she is attractive. Merely stating that Bix is attractive without more is not victim blaming. But I should have been more sensitive in the present context. I agree she may could attract more attention from a sexual predator unless the predator prefers ugly or doesn't care about appearance. Whatever the scenario, that's not the victim's fault.

Well, "pretty" and "ugly" are very subjective, but sure - according to most "conventional" standards of beauty, I might even agree with you that Adria Arjona is absolutely stunning. And yet I also think you're starting to grasp what I'm getting at - that context matters. Declaring the same thing during the first three opening episodes - or at least prior to the corpo rent-a-cops coming down to Ferrix and arbitrarily arresting and assaulting her - would have been a bit more innocuous than saying the same thing during THIS particular story arc. One might even be charitable and say that at least prior to the creepy lieutenant's arrival in this story arc, your statement might also have come across far less jarring. But AFTER even what's already transpired [SPOILER WARNING]... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... i.e. - even before what happens in the next episode, it's simply the WRONG PLACE, WRONG TIME. Assuming that you've already watched the series, BUT even if NOT, this discretion should STILL apply. The only reason to bring up one's subjective judgement of her supposed physical "attractiveness" during the very same episode - in a situation where she felt THREATENED enough that she had to LIE and say she was already "married", and all in order to try and appeal to the lieutenant's likely male chauvinist "respect" for the "claimed property" or "territory" of another man, and all in the desperate hope that this lie might dissuade the man from preying on her any further - the only logical reason to bring up her "attractiveness" in this particular context, AFTER having already watched the full episode and possibly the whole story arc, is to somehow minimize the predatory and patriarchal abuse of power. You might not have intended to be perceived this way, but I can GUARANTEE you that most women who have seen this episode will feel at the very least "creeped out" by your bringing up Bix's physical attractiveness IN THIS CONTEXT. So yes, as you yourself perhaps seemed to begin realizing, this is simply NOT a good "context" to openly say such a thing.

Clay F

I truly thought Bix attractive this episode = she is smart, can work with her hands, cares about people, striking physical appearance, etc. The scene with the creepy guy didn't change that for me. Nevertheless, I should have instead posited my comment early in S1 that "Bix is attractive" (three words without more) to reduce risk of offending a fellow patron. I've edited my original post to qualify the comment.

Jay Craig

It was poorly placed but this overreaction is also psychotic

Darrach

I think Milena knows, she was rhetorically asking the people still firing their weapons

tai4ji2x

Jay: I believe I have tried my best to approach this in comradely fashion, knowing full well how defensive and antagonistic men often react, in both "real life" and on the dreaded interwebs. If my comments seem "overreactive" or even "psychotic" [!] to you, perhaps you should consider hearing and learning more from actual survivors of SA. Although it might seem counterintuitive, the reality actually cuts both ways: targets who are deemed "pretty" or "sexy" get slut-shamed, while conversely those who are perceived as "ugly" or less "conventionally" attractive are nonetheless also still blamed for supposedly "provoking" the perpetrator in some other manner. Perhaps this is new to you, but under a patriarchal society, women and femme targets of SA deserve an unqualified presumption of innocence, and that includes completely rejecting even the pretense of physical appearance contributing in any way whatsoever to the crime.
