Hi! My comments Ah-Duo drinking alone beneath the moonlight reminded me of Li Bai's poem "Drinking Alone by Moonlight," which I mentioned back in Episode 6. In Japanese flower language, the azalea symbolizes passion, making it a fitting parallel to Fengming's intense devotion to Ah-Duo. Azaleas can be seen outside before Maomao enters to speak with Fengming. Later in the episode, Maomao casually drinks nectar from an azalea flower, and Jinshi imitates her, but Maomao explains that it's poisonous. The azalea syrup also helps explain Maomao's realization about honey in the previous episode. Fengming came from a family of beekeepers, so she knew that flowers such as azaleas could be poisonous. Honey made from the nectar of certain azaleas can cause what's known as "mad honey" poisoning, which can affect adults and children alike. What Fengming didn't know was that even ordinary honey, without plant toxins, could be deadly to infants. Maomao knows that honey can be deadly to infants, although the cause was unknown at the time. Modern medicine attributes it to infant botulism, a potentially fatal illness caused by bacterial spores that can be present in honey. That's why honey should never be given to babies under twelve months. Interestingly, the same neurotoxin responsible for botulism is used in Botox, where carefully controlled doses temporarily relax muscles to reduce wrinkles. There's a tragic irony in Fengming's actions. By trying to poison Lishu, whom Ah-Duo regarded almost as a daughter, she nearly repeated the tragedy of losing Ah-Duo's child. A small detail worth noticing at the beginning of the episode is the red peony decorating the box Maomao brings to Fengming. The peony represents Lady Gyokuyou. Thick layers of cloth or paper can offer some protection against slashing attacks, although they're less reliable against stabbing or repeated strikes. This principle was actually used in historical Chinese armor. As early as the Tang dynasty (618–907 AD), soldiers wore protective armor made from multiple layers of paper, sometimes reinforced with fabric. Paper armor continued to be used during the Song and Ming dynasties. MythBusters even tested this type of armor in a 2011 episode and found that it offered surprisingly good protection against sword strikes and arrows, although it was vulnerable to repeated attacks and moisture. There's another important distinction in Ah-Duo's departure. She's not being expelled as punishment for Fengming's crime. It had already been decided that Ah-Duo would leave the rear palace, and she would be provided with a residence in the south. Luomen's advice to Maomao, "Don't speak on conjecture," feels like a warning from the author to us as viewers. Even Maomao's most convincing deductions can be wrong. Maomao functions as an unreliable narrator, not because she deliberately misleads us, but because we experience much of the story through her limited perspective, including assumptions and interpretations that can be wrong, especially when her emotions are involved. We shouldn't automatically treat Maomao's conclusions as facts, even if her deductions are often remarkably accurate and convincing. (I'm not suggesting that's necessarily the case here, but it's something worth keeping in mind.)

Yesss these are getting so so good

It will replace JJK on YouTube

Nasra

It will come out publically after JJK is done!

refo44

This show is actually replacing JJK in the long anime reaction spot. They'll start uploading The Apothecary Diaries reactions to youtube once they've finished posting all the JJK reactions there. Re:Zero was also one of the options in the poll

Antonio

So continues the streak of "we barely have enough time for one more episode" on episodes you could spend hours talking about.

Andrestian

Maomao didn't think that Jinshi was the emperor's son because, once she realized the babies had been switched, she stopped thinking about Jinshi and focused solely on the babies, as you all said, because he's a eunuch; it wouldn't make sense for him to be the emperor's son or brother.

Cyber

gotcha! Thank you so much for the clarification! I was worried that other Apothecary Diaries enjoyers are missing out on the LM channel because it's buried in a hidden folder by accident or bad algorithm, but glad that the show will be there too!

Isaac

Watching the sun just FALL out of the sky during the post-discussion. Hilarious

Arronax06

Just checking, did you post that one on the public tier on purpose :) ?

refo44

🤣

Nyeisha Melvina Clark

my favorite running gag is MaoMao with maxed out intelligence going on a tangent and trying to solve all of the rear palaces mysteries, coming up with some of the best theories that may damn near explain everything and taking the audience there with her to the point we absolutely believe she is right....... and then she just goes "But that's none of my business though" lol.

mustard

🤣🤣

Kika gama

Girls, did u post this one by mistake to the public tier?

priscilla

Today's ep reaction especially makes me excited for the second half of this season ngl.

Book 2 (Season 1 Part 2) is also my favorite from the first 4. It feels like a great conclusion of the elements they have introduced with shocking moments and surprises.

Arronax06

Seems to be fixed now :)
