the Forgiven

Tenzin is my favorite character in this show.

Chelle

Tenzin is right. The reason Korra has trouble learning airbending is essentially because she’s stubborn, she prefers brute force. Airbending is the complete opposite of brute force. Aang struggled to learn earthbending because the very nature of it is to completely stand your ground, which Aang was used to never doing. So the element the Avatar struggles with has to do with their personality, not the bending itself.

I love Korra so much. By the end of the show she’s my favourite character from the avatar universe

Korra is 17, Bolin is 16, and Mako is 18

The Tenzin/Korra dynamic is a bit like Iroh and Zuko. He cares about her and really does want the best for her. It's just that even though he has children, this is the first teenager he's had to deal with. So it's funny.

I adore the airbender kids to death, their relationship with Korra is also something very special

I love how they gave each of the Airbender kids facets of Aang's personality. And their relationship to Korra...yeah. A few times later on in the show made me teary eyed. They really love her and it's adorable.

It’s harder to master the element that’s opposite to an avatars PERSONALITY, not the opposite to the nation they were born in, hence the reference to aang struggling with earth bending the most.

Its confusing because Aang struggled with earthbending and earth is the opposite of air

Yeah it could be applied to both but tenzin literally says “personality” so it narrows it down to one answer.

love how even though korra is very stubborn and head strong, you guys are understanding that she's a whole 17 year old who's been secluded from society her whole life so of course she's gonna get frustrated at things and lash out a bit because that's what teenagers do. She's still a lovable person regardless

I disagree. Tenzin is very stern and authoritarian with Korra because that's a part of who he is. He believes himself to have the responsibility to be an effective leader and that he has to push Korra to be a better Avatar. By contrast, Iroh takes a very loose-leash approach with Zuko because he wants Zuko to find his own way. Iroh was more about giving Zuko a gentle nudge in the right direction.

I think it is common for an avatar to struggle with his or her natural opposite element because they usually have the personality traits the nation they originate from are known for. Korra seems more like an earthbender/firebender personality wise though.

I said "a bit like", not "exactly like." Look, any discussion of this in depth goes into spoiler territory, which I would prefer to avoid. Which is why I said they both want what's best for the people they mentor. They take different approaches because they have different experience, but the intent is the same. It comes from a place of care.
