Death Note really doesn't age that well. Misa's a terrible character and representation of women and it drags the whole show down. It has its moments but Death Note just isn't that good of a show. At least it didn't live up to its potential imo.

Okay, I like watching your reactions and all, but holy shit… Stop saying Misa is sexualized! At this point, you guys are just saying this because you don’t like sexual content being portrayed in media which is a YOU problem, so quit trying to force your shitty views on to the show itself. According to you guys, showing SKIN is a form of being “sexualized.” And by that DUMB logic, whenever ANY woman wears shorts & shirts that reveal a lot of skin, they are ALSO being “sexualized.” That. Makes. No. Fucking. Sense! She’s only sexualized because YOU made it that way! Clothes are NOT inherently sexual! Woman are NOT inherently sexual! Just admit it, y’all are filled with misandry. You’re so caught up in the idea there can NEVER be fan service in media catered towards men. You guys watch Attack on Titan and simp for Eren and Levi shirtless, but I don’t see you complaining about that! Yet whenever a female shows a bit more skin, you lose your shit! And I GUARANTEE YOU, if there was a male character in this show that was always “shirtless,” you wouldn’t say ANYTHING about it. That’s just poorly disguised misandry at its finest. Plain and simple.

Dude, Misa is sexualized, stop pretending it's not, or does she have to star in a porn scene with Light for you to notice? Misa is sexualized, facts, period, end of the line, punto final.

JoloPolo

Regarding what Milena says about people contradicting the sexualization of misa, I think that at this point there are already more people in favor than against this observation, people who simply disagree, or are blind or do not understand well what it is sexualization

You clearly do not understand what sexualization means because you literally believe that clothes can make someone sexual. How dumb does that even sound? Women are NOT inherently sexual, therefore clothes CANNOT make them sexual, you complete moron.

Regarding Near, I always found the second half of Death Note the same or even a little more interesting than the first half, the idea of two heirs competing for who is the new L seems interesting to me, besides Near has always been in my opinion more than a simple copy. Yes, the way of sitting is the same, but remember that according to L, it was a way to gain intelligence, so it makes sense that Near followed this advice even if it works or not, we could argue that Near is an exemplary student of L and that's why the similarities (Although it could also be weak character creation, I don't rule it out either), however, Near is much more focused than L, he is also more morally correct because let's remember L did not hesitate to use immoral methods to get to Light, In addition, as Milena says, he does not see this war as a game or a competition, but rather a half-finished job that must be completed, nothing more. L felt identified with Kira, he was also childish and hated losing, N feels repulsion towards Kira, neither more nor less.

Yeah Misa is straight garbage as a character I can’t believe people actually defend her. I mean if you want to make her the crazy boy obsessed girlfriend that’s fine but at least make her seem cunning. she should at least be close to light in intelligence and be able to make major plays on her own to keep their identities a secret and it doesn’t help that half her screen time is just her in skimpy clothing.

That makes no sense. If Misa was as smart as Light, the entire plot of the show would fall apart. The main purpose of Death Note was supposed to be a battle of Wits between 2 likeminded individuals. If Misa was just as smart as Light, then the whole story would fall apart. I swear to GOD, y’all are filled with misandry!! You just cannot stand the fact that men are the smartest characters in the show. You wanna include women in everything! That’s that feminism BS trying to take over. Little did you know that there are SEVERAL series/movies where women are smart and powerful, Death Note is just NOT one of them. Powerful and smart women cannot be included in everything, you sexist mf

Death Note just isn’t that good of a show? Bruh you realize you are in the overwhelming minority with that stupid opinion. Death Note is an all time great anime and there’s a reason it has such a huge following. More importantly why are you here if you don’t like the show? People like you are so god damn tiring.

Great points. Wouldn't you say the sitting is more about the types of kids they take in at the orphanage though? They seem to be for the gifted. People who have a brain makeup closer to someone on the spectrum. Most of the behavior L and Near display are textbook autistic or "on the spectrum" behaviors. Sitting in unusual positions is relatable. L making the comment about how it helps his cognition is likely more about removing distractions that lower that percentage & less about a nice hack to boost brain productivity.

nova

I can't wait until they hear Light's backstory and start calling him 'baby boy'. jk

I thought feminism being themselves without judgement and slut shaming an all that. There are women who like to dress scantily clad on a daily basis and maybe that's Misa's preferred fashion so whats the problem? Honestly i'm confused what the issue is the character is the character. if you don't like her that fair but the argument of whether she is sexualized nor not shouldn't matter if your a feminist and stuff.

Robert H.

I'm going to get some popcorn. This comment section is a battlefield.

Misa in her home, fully dressed, acting just as immature as usual: SEXUALIZED! Jayce, naked torso, all sweaty in his workshop: THIS IS FINE (and, more specifically: Milena: "Wow, hello!", Lola: appreciatively laughing and nodding: "He's just looking pretty").

I haven’t even watched their reaction yet and I’m wondering what’s going on? lol Why are people fighting about Misa? Haven’t people already done that in many of their previous episodes? We know she’s a garbage character that had potential.

You guys miss the point LM are making. It's not about looking sexy. It's about being a good character. Characters male or female can be sexy but the most important thing is that they have motivations, dreams, agency. Misa doesn't decide anything for herself. She is basically a voluntary slave. Her character, not the way she dresses, is the problem. The only thing she is good for is as a sexualized object. Jayce and Vi from Arcane have their own goals, they make choices and decisions, and aren't just something pretty to look at.

Calvin Delaney

I love Death Note but LM are 100% right, Misa is the only girl main character for the entrire run of the show and she is sexualized. She literally pops into an Important scene to say "Light i'm going to Bed" and all the boys in the Room stop and stare, that scene was literally made to make light look too serious to want to sleep with Misa at that moment and nothing else. We all love Misa but when someones making a point like this, shutting them down for being right is not it.

michaa

Ahh shit here we go again..

BBT

Misa is sexualized, but it wouldn't be such a problem if she were an interesting character. The problem is, she's the only female lead on a show where basically every character is in an intellectual battle. Meanwhile Misa is only there to wear provocative clothes. I'm not offended by her presence, it's just disappointing that the author used such a shallow appeal tactic on a show that didn't need it and would have been better without it.

JoloPolo

I said it before and I'll say it again, what a great favor the dubbing does for Misa Misa, in my version (Latin Spanish) Misa has a sweet but mature voice, giving her the look of a tender but serious young woman at the same time, lowering the tone in moments and neutralizing his voice. All this gives more maturity and even some three-dimensionality to the character. In Japanese it's another story, and it's incredible how irritating it becomes to Misa. It's the typical "kawaii" voice and okay, if she did it at specific times it would make sense, but she does it ALL THE TIME, making her the typical kawaii woman, reinforcing x2 all the sexualization she has and overshadowing her entire personality, turning her into almost just a stereotype. As I said before, the power that dubbing has in a series is INCREDIBLE, I think this will be the last time I see this series in Japanese (I hope). Isn't it incredible that we are reaching the end and 70% of the debate so far has been about Misa Amane? I just wanted to give that observation.

Patrick
>>78466723

The ‘debate’ has been a out Misa because people can hear 30mins of praise for a show and then see red at two minutes of criticism. They’d be happier in a mens rights forum.

Zekrom XI

After reading a bunch of your comments, I’ve come to realize that you people aren’t just upset about Misa being “sexualized.” You’re really angry because there isn’t one female character in this show that’s smart or powerful. Which, again, are the views of feminists. You want female characters to be represented in Death Note because you can’t stand the fact that a good show like Death Note is dominated by male characters. That’s misandry at its finest and you cannot name it anything else. Stop pushing your shitty views on to Death Note! There are plenty of shows with intelligent and strong women, Death Note is just NOT one of them.

Hey you know what… you can go and fuck off don’t think that you know what everyone thinks moron. Feminism is not something I align in modern day only because of how there is a very small but loud radical part of it but every kind of group or whatever has radical parts. BUT feminism in of itself is a good thing extremely good because everyone should be equal woman and men should not be above or below each other. So if you don’t support equality then you are an idiot. And this show does sexualize woman and show them as very simplistic and dumb which is just stupid and has wasted potential for good female characters as side characters that actually are an influential part of the story. And I don’t watch it because I want a female character i watch it because I enjoy watching Light and L but it completely fucks up its female characters. I’ll admit when I was in my early teenage years I did consider the woman in this show as eye candy now I just think it’s idiotic how it ruins its female characters in such a way I seriously wonder why the author or show made it this way but it’s very disappointing. And not all shows need female characters true but if it has one then it can at least give them a respectable story and not treat them like sex objects. However I think this flaw in its portrayal of woman is a big negative on it but I don’t think it ruins the show it’s still very good just doesn’t age well. All woman in this show are not well made in the story as characters but my comment is especially referring to Misa because she’s by far the worst.

These "plain w*men" with their mere w*men brains can't even comprehend the brilliance of the gigachad alpha female that is Misa-Misa-kun. They shake and tremble, not knowing what to do and what to say when they see such powerful and dominating character. Her presence is enough to make these weaklings go mad, they can't cope with Misa-Misa's genius All joking aside, when I used to be a horny teenage boy I didn't think much about Misa's objectification, although I found her annoying at some parts even back then, I also thought some of her scenes were funny and brought some lightheartedness to the show. Years later though, I find most of her scenes cringe. But honestly, with LM's reactions now it got to a point where I enjoy them cringing at Misa lol. In fact I laugh out loud seing their reactions, it's making it more fun. Now I can't WAIT for their reaction to the next episode considering what's gonna happen

Yeah, the next ones will be painful. I wish I could laugh but I cringe same as the girls lol. It's possible to me to laugh out of disbelief though, about how could a writter make a character this lame and a certain dialogue in future episodes non ironically... Pretty common some years ago, but man, how it doesn't age well (thanks God)
