You could otherwise go to the dark side and watch Fullmetal Alchemist on 9anime or gogoanime.

sand_fl

This one and 19 are my favourites of what you've watched so far; and believe it or not it gets much better (at least in my opinion). So exited to watch this. Have to wait till everyone has gone to bed because having to pause while watching the full in one device and the show in another is not that easy.

Ruma Risto

I cried so much after watching this episode for the first time.

EternalDragonX

Not sure if I'm allowed to post links but it looks like funimation could be a good way to go, first two episodes are free so u can try it out: https://www.funimation.com/shows/fullmetal-alchemist-brotherhood/ If you don't trust my link just google "fmab funimation", should be the first one. Best of luck. Btw - for Crunchyroll, the subs only cover the Japanese text, not the actual dialogue, so technically they didn't lie ;)

Ahhhh I KNEW you would like this episode! The end never fails to make me cry and I knew you might too, ha ha. I love how beautiful it is... the juxtoposition between Kimblee (Crimson Alchemist) and Scar, and how he's keeping up the cycle of hatred. And sweet Winry not being able to shoot and Ed telling her that her hands were meant to give live. Like... sobs. Sobs every time. <3 <3 <3

Kyan

Yeah the Amestrian army being depicted so uniformly, similar and white skin with blue eyes was definitely a stylistic choice to show how this is an ethnic cleansing they're doing against the Ishval ppl. It wasn't a real "war", it was an extermination.

sand_fl

btw, you remember the first episodes when you were convinced winry was going to join the military to protect the boys? this episode is the first thing that came to my mind, especially the part where ed says that her hands are not meant to kill but to bring life what an amazing episode honestly

Exactly. And the choice os Amestris being a country based on Germany, and the race caracteristics being blonde hair and blue eyes makes the whole thing that much more nazi-esque

Soma Zöld

Fun fact, the wall that was created in front of the running Ishvalians that were shot, was created by Armstrong. FMAB actually doesn't explain how Roy got the name 'Hero' in the war.

Brendan O'Connor

This episode is fantastic, Ling became my favorite character in this episode, holding off Gluttony and Bradley while trying to protect Lan Fan, tough as he is noble. The imagery of Ed defending Winry the same way Scar’s brother protected him is so powerful. I still can’t watch that end scene without my eyes watering. Very Excited for what comes next!

BBT

Sacrificing your arm to save your brother... Where did I see something similar?

They show the scene with the wall again and in that episode the fact that it was Armstrong is made to be a pretty shocking and heartbreaking reveal. But sure you can tell them here in the comments instead I guess...

Soma Zöld
>>84935474

I don't think the reveal is about who made the wall, I think the reveal is about what makes it shocking and heartbreaking. That's why I excluded those parts or even the very fact that it is shocking or heartbreaking. But sure you can tell them here in the comments instead I guess...

ODIS

Don't think those sites have good subs for the dub version either, unfortunately.

You’re wrong the show reveals who made the wall and that fact in itself is what is shocking given what we know of his character so far. While it may not be explicit stated I watched this only about 3 months ago and in “that” episode it’s made clear enough to that I was able to infer that Armstrong made the wall and I wasn’t even paying that much a attention mostly watching in the background. These girls are far more observant than me and it will be very obvious to them when the episode comes around that the wall was made by Armstrong. Something which will likely have less impact on them if they read it in you’re comment instead of having the show reveal it to them. So yes you’re comment spoils the reveal that Armstrong made the wall. Edit: I wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something or misrembering (I’d get mentioning this if it was a detail in the manga that was left out of the show or if it was revealed in an OVA that we are not sure if they will watch) so I just went back and rewatched the scene and yeah it’s actually pretty explicit and clear what happens. There was absolutely no need to tell them about that detail of this event in a comment several episodes before the show itself very straightforwardly and clearly reveals it you should delete this comment and this whole comment thread with it.

Blue eyes and blonde hair ARE NOT the dominant traits among Amestrian people. It also is NOT based on Germany, at least not exclusively. Arakawa has explicitly said that Amestris is based on multiple European countries during the late industrial revolution, mainly England. Blonde hair and blue eyes were just a stylistic choice. Perhaps the blue eyes and blonde hair were supposed to allude to the image of a perfect Aryan from the III Reich propaganda, but it's definitely exaggerated when compared to how Amestrians normally look like. The names and surnames of most characters are not German, but English and in general those are just a mix from many different languages. Uniforms are mostly based on French unifiorms, not German. The architecture is not exclusively German. The flag is not. The map is vastly different from how Earth looks like in reality, so nothing here. The title of Fuhrer is one thing that comes to mind, I admit, but that was introduced with the English Dub. There is no Fuhrer in the Japanese dub.

ODIS

Yeah, can confirm that Funimation has subs. However, they appear too big on my screen and part of it gets cut off. Anyone else has this issue? Not sure how to fix that...

ODIS
>>84935474

I agree that if anything CAN be potentially spoilery, then we might as well treat it as such. This fun fact is less important than the potential spoiler it also introduces, I think. (Personally, I don't remember the episode you guys are talking about, so I can't comment on it specifically though.)

Paola

I always felt like the blue eyes blonde hair was just so we can get into Scars head on how he sees all Amestrian soldiers, as this caricature. All Amestrians are the same. And it was just stylistic so that us the audience can also see how evil ALL Amestrians all are. Even though obviously that isn't the case. Not every Amestrian soldier is the cookie cut mold that Scar is seeing. Just in this moment we are seeing the war only through Scars eyes.

Soma Zöld
>>84935474

No, I'm not wrong. I do know that it gets shown later. What I meant is that the important part of that reveal is not that it's Armstrong. In that moment the thing that is shocking is not that it is Armstrong. You already know that he was there at this point. If that's news to you, maybe you should have been paying more attention. It is not a spoiler that Armstrong was there, we know that, and it is not a spoiler that he made a wall. On their own these facts do not mean anything. In fact, we are shown that Armstrong is making the wall in _that_ episode even before we get to the shocking part. So my comment did not spoil anything. That's why I didn't even stated anything about it, that it's shocking or heartbreaking. I'd consider that more of a spoiler because that actually influences their expectations and their impact.

Paola
>>84944834

Also yeah Hulu has dub with the right subtitles. That's how I watch it :)

MaxVSTheGames
>>84935474

It's not a "fun fact" when it's a spoiler. Just let them watch the show. Everything will be revealed later.

BBT
>>84944834

The artistic choice of having all the colors very dull, with only the blue eyes been of a very vivid color was sooo good. They really nailed it on showing the perspective of Scar.

Soma Zöld
>>84935474

it, still, is not a spoiler though. just read my other comments. If you did and you still think that my comment was a spoiler, well, I'd love to hear why.

Kyle Junge
>>84935474

The reason why people are still saying its a spoiler after reading you’re replies is because the common agreed upon definition of a spoiler is to reveal information ahead of time that the show will reveal later it’s not a spoiler to reveal this moment of the wall being made is tragic that’s already obvious from seeing it in this episode. You are correct that we know Armstrong was in the war but knowing that and even knowing that being in the war on the side of amestris means we can infer he likely did some bad things does not render the specifics unimportant. At this point the show has not given the details of which specific bad things he may have done. We have seen the wall being made and we already know that is a horrific moment just by watching it in this episode but we do not know that Armstrong is responsible for this particular horrific moment. The fact he is responsible for that given what we know about him at this point is more heartbreaking specifically because it’s this character we care about that did it. Yes more context is added later that adds even more but I disagree with you’re assertion that the reveal itself is not shocking or emotionally affecting. At least it affected me seeing the specifics of how this moment went down and likely would not have (at least not as deeply) if someone had told me the specifics ahead of time. TLDR: is a spoiler simply because the show has not revealed that information as of now and more importantly it will reveal that a later time.

Soma Zöld
>>84935474

That is actually not the definition of a spoiler. I could write a long answer on why you are wrong, but it would be pointless, so let's just say that I won't be making any more comments at all (on this thread or in the channel), and leave it at that, and you can feel like you were right. You'll look it up, still not agree with me, still try to argue, you'd be wrong, I couldn't convince you still. Let's just jump to the end where no one convinces the other and we both shut up.

Mahni Alizadeh

Now you see why that ending is the best lol

Kyle Junge
>>84935474

Fair enough no need to reply but do you think as a courtesy to the reactors you could delete this comment (and by extension entire thread). You know, in case they havn’t read the comments yet and on the off chance that these reactors happen to agree with my insane definition of a spoiler as revealing story elements that havn’t been revealed yet by the show. I am looking forward to their reaction to “that” episode and I think it would be cool for them and their viewers if next time that wall scene plays they don’t already know who did it.

Scar’s brother saves Scar’s body, but not his heart :(

SPOILERS GIRLS What an arrogant idiot. Stop trying to justify spoiling. We know Armstrong was in the war, we don't know he made that wall. It's not a big story revelation that he did but we still don't know it. It doesn't matter whether you deem something important or not, do not mention anything that isn't shown on screen that can't be deducted for 100% while watching an episode. Every alchemist could have made that wall. "Fun fact guys, it was indeed Roys flames that we saw in this episode and he does this just because it's orders!!".

RemielEgis

Just like you, tears were shed during the ending when Winry breaks down crying and the ending song starts playing. Even though she is a sunshine even she has been carrying the weight of her parents dying since she was a child and hopefully, because she could finally cry because of that pain and "let it all out", she will be better for it. Granted no one should have to go through what these kids have gone through at their age in the first place (and also what Scar had to go through) but it all is presented in such a beautifully painful way. It's really dark but also beautiful episode. That kind of sums up this show actually, dark but beautiful.

The people who spoil will never admit that they spoiled, no matter how big or light the spoiler was or whether it was on purpose or not. I get what you wanted to do here but by definition any future knowledge that they haven't been told yet is a spoiler. Maybe you didn't remember whether it will be shown later or not and I can understand that but you don't get to decide whether the future knowledge you are referring to is a spoiler or not. You see it all the time that people start twisting the definitions of the word and so on. I'd be curious what you think is the definition of a spoiler? But do you understand how it's a slippery slope to walk if everyone starts deciding for themselves if what they said is a spoiler or not? You said that telling more would be a spoiler because it would influence their expectations but if that's the case then tell me how knowing what you said also doesn't influence expectations since if they saw your comment, they now know something that wasn't shown or told to them yet and hence are expecting it to happen. It's not that big of a deal to admit that you slipped up, it's fine. What isn't fine is slipping up and then justifying it. Majority in these comments think what you said was spoiling and I think that says enough about it so you could do the easy thing and just delete your comment just in case and everyone can leave it at that. If what you said in the original comment isn't important according to you then what was the point of commenting it in the first place?

Pkiu

This is indeed one of the best episode of the show so far ! I don’t know if you noticed, but when scar was about to kill Ed who was protecting winry, scar took the place of Kimbley (the crimson alchemist) in his mini flashback. This time he was the one ready to execute someone who just wanted to protect someone dear to him, this adds even more weight to the old ishvalan’s words about the cycle of hatred and how scar’s actions will just manage to plant the seed for further violences. It’s absolutely insane how much incredible characters this show has, I couldn’t choose a favorite to save my life ! (A little soft spot for mustang though lol)

Orr Malus

Scar's flashbacks are from his perspective. The reason why every blue-eyed soldier looked the same is to establish that that's how young Scar saw them. Then they show that the reason why Scar attacked Winry's parents was because of their eyes alone (and hair). This hints that after young Scar realized that it was a mistake to kill the Rockbell's, he had some character growth and current Scar now only targets state alchemists. Scar is a religious fundamentalist (established in the flashback when he castigates his brother for using alchemy) and not driven by a need for vengeance. Ed also calls him a hypocrite for using alchemy which he is, established by his interactions with Mei which show that he's not upset at her for using alchehistry. Storytelling wise it's amazing how much character depth they managed to squeeze in just a few minutes of animation.
