If you have time I suggest you to watch episodes 70 and 71 of HxH together

My schools didn’t have staff driving out to bring kids in, they bribed us to come to truancy court with cake and bus passes. Truancy court judges came directly to the schools, it was easier than bringing so many students downtown In the previous episode we saw Michael shying away from Bodie and Cutty whenever they came close to him… I’m glad the show introduced his trauma in such a realistic way What do you guys think the poker games are telling us? We see several people letting the mayor win to get in his favor (true authoritarian power) and Marlo failing to win or even finish the game… is it trying to show us that the Mayor has so much more power than the most feared criminal in the city? Or highlight how outmatched Marlo is by the system despite his power?

TeaDrinker3000

"And now, back to our regularly scheduled misery..."

The city council members trying to one up each other hits too close to home 😩 Our mayor is stepping down so we have a big mayoral race rn with 7 different candidates (two are former city council members who fought for the former mayor’s endorsement) If anyone’s curious to read about it our city council continues to pile up mess after mess, they can’t stop slinging mud https://indyweek.com/news/durham/ahead-of-municipal-elections-this-fall-durham-grapples-with-whats-next-for-a-scandal-plagued-city-council/

You may not be glad watching Season 4, but you’ll be glad you watched it.

Marlo, hmm…. If you were under any illusion as to the type of person Marlo is then this episode would have cleared up any uncertainty. He lost the poker game so felt the need to re-establish dominance against the poor security guard. Having him killed because he “talked back” is an indication of a ruthless, sick, and very insecure individual. I enjoyed seeing Omar jam his gun into Marlo’s face - he could have done us all a favour and pulled the trigger. But at least he took the ring to remind Marlo of his own vulnerability. Murders on the show have taken place because of a perceived threat - i.e. Wallace, D’Angelo, Sobotka, etc; or accidentally (Prez) but the security guard was just an average Joe Shmoe doing a 9 to 5 job. He posed zero threat to Marlo. At one point he jokingly says if he continues to lose at poker he’ll send Chris to kill the other players. But was he actually joking…? Speaking of jokes - the practice of getting truant kids to attend class one day per month so the school retains its funding is a complete joke. A whole system on its ass. So, four episodes into S4 and each episode has closed with the boys we’re following and each closing scene provides insight into the type of person they are. I wonder whether L&M have a favourite (you’re not allowed to say Bug!). Episode trivia… This episode was written by the novelist Denis Lehane who also wrote the movies Mystic River and Shutter Island. Also, he is (or was) a teacher.

I love how Lola reacts like she is getting stabbed in the chest whenever we see Michael being kind and nurturing. I feel that way as well. Makes you appreciate that he is that way despite his difficult life.

bushpusherr

Y'all are some of the only reactors I watch where I never have to wonder "will they notice this?" for non-trivial moments or details. Thank you for how seriously you take these stories and characters, and how consistently perceptive and attentive you are. :)

Tom

Yeah Cutty has been coming on strong ever since noticing Michael's talent in the gym, good catch seeing how Michael is super uncomfortable with this.

RJ Dough

the subtle way they reveal Michael's demons is great, and hits harder than if they were heavy handed with it.. and im sure there was probably help for Michael that would have normally been available, but there was an election going on when it happened.. that apparently is the excuse that covers everything

Kenneth thomas

can i pay more for early-early access? lol. i so want to binge all of these right now.

Agree so hard, another show would have beat you over the head with what it was or make it too dramatic in the way the audience finds out it would even be insensitive to it Show is showing respect to victims it portrays

Love you pointing out how the episodes end and begin with the boys I think it’s really interesting to see how each of them respond differently to things they all experience. Even just basic communication to friends or adults, Randy seems eager to please even when he’s doing wrong while Namond is quick to dismiss adults and be rude to make other kids laugh

Iamgreat Now

Omar Vs. Marlo......and now it begins!

Josip

god weve been waiting the whole week, hope the sunday video gets released nevertheless :(

Any earlier and you'd have to watch it with them, and edit it too. ;-)

TeaDrinker3000

Going to wait for the edited on this time around, looking forward to it! 😁❤️

Marlo is black Chrollo.

I would rather watch these full reactions for this show, but syncing it up doesn't work right for your reactions. And yes I've looked at previous comments on what to do but it still doesn't line up right. Plus it's too much to keep doing every time. Also HBO Max's clock counts down instead of a counting up like your timer which makes it hard to line up. You guys should also do a countdown before starting and maybe show a blurred out version of what's playing to help line it up too. To keep it real with you I know people who will show the entire reaction with a link that opens up in Google Drive and things like that.

Damn holidays are near.. I can’t believe we have only 3 months left in this year

So I've been using document.querySelector('video').playbackRate = 0.95904 to make sync mine and at worst I have to double click real fast about 2-3 times to sync up small differences throught a 50 min video. I saw another one that was slightly faster I think so not optimal at least for me. No doubt not everyone will have the patience to sit and change the numbers themselves until it fits with the copy you have at hand but its likely the easiest way to get asolution. Other than that I have no ideas but them actual ripping of the whole video and adding it to theirs is.. not a great idea. Even if it other people are doing it.

daron85
>>118191388

I typed document.querySelector into google. That seems complicated. I'll just watch the edited versions. Thanks anyways though. It's irritating that they have to make it this difficult when it's an easy fix on their end. They say they read comments but I don't think they really do since I never see them react nor reply. The full reactions was the reason I even paid money. I guess that was well spent 😒

Thomas

Being a wire fan is rough waiting for the edited to drop lol but we built for this shit hell we already survived this show 😂

And here I am so pathetic and have watched the Wire so many times I am able to know what they are reacting to just based on hearing it in these versions lol. I really wish the versions of HBO Max synced up better

Here's a copy pasted solution: If you're on a PC, right click the reaction video (after starting it) and then click on inspect. Then go to the console tab in the new window that popped up and copy paste this into it: document.querySelector('video').playbackRate = 0.95910 Then hit enter, and close this debug window by clicking the x in the top right. Now it should stay in sync, and you'll have to use the audio to sync them up. Quickly pause and unpause either your copy or their reaction video depending on which is ahead until you think it's close enough. If the doubled audio bothers you like it does me, I would recommend muting your copy after it's synced up, and just having the audio from their reaction. It won't be great audio quality for the show, but I think it's good enough if you crank it up and wear headphones. For the visual, I resize my copy in a smaller window on top of the reaction video (on the same monitor), so it looks very much like the edited reactions. While all this is kind of a pain, I don't know of a better solution. Also, if you're on mobile I don't know how it can be fixed.

I'm three episodes into re-watching season 5. I know I'm in the minority here with this opinion, but I really prefer it to season 3. Each to their own of course, very interested to hear what the girls have to say.

Max Carter
>>118207235

I don't think you're in the minority to be honest. I think a lot of people consider 3 to be a near perfect lead in to season 4 but S4 is often labeled as the best of the show. I hear a lot of people say they didn't think the show could get better after s3 until they watched this one. Either way it really is among the pinnacle of tv imo and Lola and Milena's incredibly intelligent and empathetic reactions have if a possible further enhanced this show in my eyes

TeaDrinker3000
>>118207235

I think it's just because season 5 gets labeled as the 'worst', but it's still fantastic tv that i gotta praise it

bushpusherr
>>118150846

I'm not sure I have a strong opinion one way or the other with regards to how the two poker scenes compare/contrast to each other, but there may be a bit more going on in the mayor's scene than you *seem* to be acknowledging. The entire game is intentionally a sham from the beginning, meant only as a loophole to skirt campaign finance laws that would otherwise limit the maximum contributions these folks have certainly already made. I think everyone in that game is already in the mayor's favor and are only there with the express purpose of giving him money. Clarence still seems to delight in the charade and gloats beyond reason (being "ugly" with it) because he's an asshole lol I'm not sure it *needs* to relate to the other poker scene, but the message of this one definitely seems to be "the rules don't apply for these folks."

space colon
>>118150846

Oh no for sure, the property development guy from last season is openly saying all of what you mentioned I do think that if they didn’t play or offer to play they wouldn’t be in his good graces Like they believe he’ll be the next mayor so they can’t refuse him Agree with you, think it’s showing that the rules don’t apply to everyone. For all his power Marlo can never affect the world or be as in control as the Mayor

>>118161043

The Lebron James “I Promise” school also hasn’t improved test scores despite all the resources it has to help students… These kids just can’t succeed with the system in place and the lack of support financial or otherwise at home

Aj
>>118207235

I think it is the worst season, but not bad by any means. Still mostly solid and better than most stuff out there, and I don't mean that in the Game of Thrones way, where folks were saying that long after GoT had gone down the toilet.

Mike Conlin
>>118207235

Season 5 is my least favorite, but the main problems I have with it were the results of the shortened season order. Certain developments happen much faster than they would've if the showrunners were given 13 episodes to tell the story instead of 10.
