Yeah us HxH fans have an obsession. It's because we made a Nen restriction and vow requiring us to be annoying or else we die, thus strengthening our nen.

I hate you (I actually love you, but I'm toxic and abusive)

One of the worst things I learned from "All the Pieces Matter" book about The Wire is that De'Londa Brice (Namond's mom) is based on a real woman.

Just finished watching the full reaction so I haven't seen the intro and outro yet, but what I will say following your episode-reaction is that I'm very glad that both of you are so invested in the Carcetti storyline. I'll admit that upon my first viewing of this season, I wasn't paying the most attention to it, given that it was hard to reel myself back in emotionally everytime there was a scene with the kids. But yeah, the political side of The Wire is really gripping when you give it the time of day. The expression "It's all politics everywhere you go" is so apt for a show like The Wire. Regarding your cynicism towards Carcetti, it's very much earned, and as mentioned before, you were able to see through his bullshit in a way that I didn't during the season 3 finale. I'm very much interested in seeing what you think of this storyline moving forward.

Not surprised at all. I'm sure parents like that exist in every place all over the world that has such pronounced drug-trade issues. I shudder at the thought of how Naymonds are out there...

TeaDrinker3000

Also, your reaction to Naymond's mother's comment about "Jew Holidays"; antisemitism has been represented before with Breonna referring to Levy as "that Jew lawyer". The show makes it basically impossible to redeem either woman, I'm glad the show represents the undercurrent of antisemitism that exists in the country, as it isn't talked about enough.

I honestly see Carcetti as a representation of politicians as a whole, no better, no worse. I think he's a much more nuanced representation of politicians than you usually see in TV and film. I think it does a good job of showing that wanting to do good, and wanting to glorify one's self are not mutually exclusive. I also believe the series is good at showing the practical limitations those in office face and how it's just not as simple as "do the right thing". I'm not saying any of the politicians in the series are essentially good, but The Wire does a decent job of showing that the system is the real problem and just electing "good" people wouldn't make any lasting change.

yea Namonds mom is just the worst. every time shes shown i think everyone feels universal anger/disgust.. there are fucking less than zero good qualities about her

Good comment. It goes without saying that money itself has such a huge role to play, which is awful.

In this context calling someone a “jew lawyer” is absolutely antisemitic They are being defined as “a Jew” or “that Jew” and not as a person who is jewish I’m ethnically jewish and if you call me “that jew” then that’s pejorative

space1999

Glad we can acknowledge that the situation with Tiff probably isn’t so black and white. Most 12-13 yr old girls aren’t going to have any kind of sexual encounter in a school bathroom with TWO boys unless there is pay or coercion (not saying that SA happened) Either of these things can be true and she can still be hopeful that one of the boys genuinely wanted to see her again

@hyper I listened to an interview with Bunny’s actor and he claimed that some specific situations with the kids were based on real events There’s a news story about one of them that I was gonna share at the end of the season that horrified me…
