Yeah, Lan WangJi's "boring" literally means "I'm gay panicking right now because you did something sweet or really impressive, so I have to say something to cover it up." 😄

You are often complaining about the clothes and how impractical wearing white is and how they keep it so clean all the time (when it's not soaked in blood), so I just wanted to give you a little note about it because it's actually another thing explained in the novel and there is intention and meaning behind it (with the Lan clan at least). The Lan clan is known in the novel for many virtues: they have the most knowledge (big library and amazing teaching classes, which is why they all studied in the Cloud Racesses despite being from different clans), they have rules for everything, and they are well cultured. Wearing these impractical clothes (which is called hanfu, for future references) with so many impractical layers, impractically long sleeves and in white or occasionally light shades of blue, an absolutely impractical color, and keeping everything clean and beautiful is their way of demonstrating how cultured and perfect they are.

Btw, in the scene where he removes his clothes, Wei WuXian's intention was to make Lan WangJI feel so uncomfortable and disguised that he throws out the stained blood; instead, he made Lan WangJi gay panic so hard that it had the same effect as what he intended. 😄

I really love the look Lan WangJI gives Wei WuXian after the "Do you like MianMian?" line. He's like "There is a world full of amazing people; why did I had to fall for this oblivious gremlin?" 😄 Wei WuaXian's obliviousness for Lan WangJi's feelings is on another level, honestly. In the novel (this will be novel spoiler about something that doesn't happen in the show but still, don't continue reading if you don't want to have the novel spoiled), he's able to convince himself that there's no way Lan Zhan could ever like him, even after they just had sex, and needs Lan WangJi's brother to literally tell him: "WangJi has feelings for you!" 😄

LOVE THIS!!! Omg yes that always confused us and it kind of felt unrealistic. It seemed like an attention to detail that they left out or could have done better with by not showing that their clothes get dirty. But to know that there is a deeper cultural reason behind it is so helpful!!! It adds even more weight now to future scenes where their clothing does in fact get dirty and they’re in a dire situation. Thank you ♥️♥️♥️

HAHAHAH omgggg. WeiWuxian is soooooo oblivious but it’s part of his charm. That’s why we love this episode so much cause the WAY Lan WangJi looks at him he’s like BITCH ARE U SERIOUS?!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 He’s a man of very few words so his facial expressions and actions say so much!!

Exacly! It's like whenever Lan WangJi's clothes get dirty, it means something is really wrong, that his focus is on something else, something more important to him than Lan's clan rules, and that is by itself really big and almost never happens.

yes! omg where we are now, you really feel the weight of the sadness they’re going through because the beginning of the show was so light and fluffy a lot of the time. It really makes you feel attached to the characters and feel protective over them 🥺

I'm just trying to give you facts that I know would have helped me when I was watching it for the first time to have the same experience as I have watching it now with a lot more context. ❤️

The show is a masterpiece in the way that it shows you the fate of many characters in the first couple episodes (mostly tragic ones; whatever we talk about knowing that YanLi will die at some point or that Wei WuXian and Jiang Cheng's brother bond will have to break apart so much that Jiang Cheng ends up killing his brother), and then it takes you back and shows you all the fluff and makes you fall in love with the characters you already know will have a terrible fate. It makes you care for them even knowing, that your care will inevitably end with your heartbreak. It's cruel and brilliant.
