New timeline, new guy. Maybe we give him a shot?

Jayden

Trust him but be on guard nonetheless

Autumn

As much as I’m usually pretty cynical, the whole story of malevolent is giving people the chance to make their own choices- I mean look at John! He is a fragment of an evil eldritch god but look how far he has come! We even have an example of what would have happened if he wasn’t offered the same courtesy of trust Arthur originally did with yellow and I’m sure we don’t want a repeat of that. This may be a bit meta but even if Antoine was evil in the malev timeline, in the CoC2 events he was just Some Guy so he has as much potential for evil as the next guy The only thing I may say against him is that he didn’t only have books on shub in the lighthouse, he had stuff on the KiY and other gods too so he may still be a cultist, but even so I’d like to give him the chance to prove himself If anything it’ll be more interesting story wise even if things do go pear shaped, it’s always more fun to betray your friends in the end as we know Arthur will have to

Quinn

Welp! New Year, New… Man! Different timeline. Different choices and purpose. We can choose to trust him right now and still stay on guard, just as we will be on guard with everyone else. Trusting him now doesn’t mean we’re gullible or naïve. Instead, we can get to know him and learn more about his true intentions. Perhaps gain an ally. Perhaps not. Either way, we give him a chance. After all — Arthur and John wouldn’t be where they are now without the chance to live and grow, and we know for sure there are many many keys with many many versions of them. I say let’s give the man a chance!

Quinn

THIS!!!! All of this!!! 🖤🖤🖤 No matter what, the boys will have to betray the mission (to some extent), and this way they have the chance to gain an ally! And if not, then we aren’t losing anything. We’re going for something fun and potentially risky. But what’s life without a little danger? It’s not as if their entire world is already hanging over their head(s). What’s one more calculated risk? ✨

Graham

It is worth mentioning however that the library beneath the lighthouse was part of his Shub cult base, he only traveled to America in the first place once he was a cultist

I'm a big believer in second chances, even if that second chance is an alternate world where his original god of choice is toast. We don't know what led him to originally following Shub, so it's possible that those steps he took instead led him to where he is now in this timeline, with a different goal. Not saying we shouldn't keep a close eye on him, but even just on principle it feels better to believe that he could be a different man here.

Luke

I think we trust him, this version hasn't done anything, but that being said we should not let our guard down

Sasha

uhhhh innocent until guilty so

Nicky

I don’t think there is any reason to treat this Antoine with any more or less suspicion/wariness than anyone else. COC1/Malevolent Antoine followed/became obsessed with Shub out of to his loyalty to Entie. If this Entie didn’t get pulled to Shub, would he have done evil? Again - no way to know, so unfair to assume. And also again - Arthur and John are not in a position to be particularly trustful of anyone else in the group or in general.

blacklightRIOT

its cool guys we can always betray him later

Lettie Black

I say we trust him. Mainly because not trusting him would look weird to the others, and there’s no way to explain alternate realities to these people without Arthur sounding like he’s lost it. 🤣

I want to stay on the safer side here and guard our mission and our peace. There’s a lot we still don’t know, especially when it comes to other eldritch powers and I don’t think Kayne knows everything that’s happening across all timelines - there are still things more powerful than him. I feel like Harlan got us seeing false flags since Arthur is recovered and we got past the spooky escapades in the previous chapters. There’s still a lot at stake if we don’t get the stone and I don’t like the unknown of Antoine showing up here. Lets air on the side of caution because if we don’t, the consequences are still too great for us to worry about a social faux-pas

RoryMarkal

So many things are different right now that to associate him with the same actions he did in our universe would be unwise. Also considering the fact that he's appeared 300 years earlier in this timeline than he did in ours. I say "trust him as much as we're able to for anyone we don't know". Sure, technically we have some foresight, but not enough context.

Nicky

Even in the Malevolent Middle C timeline Antoine was around in the 13 th century as a servant to Entie, one of the Three Soldiers. He started on the path to summoning Shub due to loyalty to Entie and following through on what he started. He was a very very old man in Massachusetts.

Raven Fritz

I think we should trust him, but be cautious, maybe slipping shub into conversation

Layali

I mean Arthur’s taken his role hasn’t he? Traitor serving an elder god or whatever. Antoine’ll have to find something else to do other than being the traitor haha

Dinobunny

I think from what we learned of the various timelines is that people and their actions can differ greatly depending on the timeline. I think we need to judge him based on his actions in this timeline, not others. I don’t know if I’d phrase it as us trusting him necessarily, but more of us giving him a chance.

Lucius Hound

Agreed. This show is largely about people not being as they seemed. Side note: Damn I did not expect to see you guys on here.

boneseed

I said this this the discord but John in Ch 15 said “I have to hope that any creature can be redeemed.” He says this about the wraith. Arthur spared her and then she saved his life. That feels like an important thing to remember.

Layali

It would be so funny if this Antoine fellow ends up loyal to Arthur, and therefore…Kayne :). I hope that doesn’t happen, but it would be funny. Also Anty somehow is alive hundreds of years in the future. We can leave a message for Noel Marie & Oscar with him.

Megan Lloyd

If you had the chance to go back in time and kill baby Antoine, would you 😂
