Worst case scenario Arthur gets smashed into the ground and we get another 8 ball

Take a second to think: These things supposedly haven't spotted Kellin, he's stuck in the mud and still- the things probably work on jurassic park logic, where you move or show fear and it destroys you. Plus.. well, like all the other commenter's said- it's probably dangerous as all get-out.

I'm operating under the assumption that we are already caught. The creature sees us, and we cannot escape. There is no running, and no killing this thing. Therefore, running accomplishes nothing. We aren't getting away. We'll just look like prey, and maybe trip over all the barbed wire. If we stay still, the creature might mistake us for someone who belongs here. Or at least, it won't draw any additional attention and predation We are pretty fucked either way. Arthur you fucked up big time.

The real debate for me is did the creatures find Arthur by chance or were they following the noise he was making? And secondly, can they only see what is within the light or not? If it is only sound then staying still would be the best. If it is light and sound, then they would be better off running out of the light and hiding. And the third thing noted by BJ, we don't know if the creature is passive or aggressive. Running might trigger it to chase if it is otherwise passive. But if it already aggressive, we're screwed by not moving.

What we know: Between Arthur and the bell is this No Man’s Land divided into fields by deep trenches with the fields covered in abandoned machinery, huge coils of barbed wire, and small fires / smoke. The ground is people buried face up in the mud, sometimes silent and still, other times talking / singing and able to sink deeper. The fields are patrolled by 15-20 foot tall crustacean like beings with lanterns for heads (purpose unknown, additional specifics of the things unknown) One of these things is very close and has Arthur in it’s light. Anything else is conjecture or assumption, but that can’t stop us from making a decision. **Running Pros** • may be able to hide among the debris. **Running Cons** • this landscape is full of physical dangers that could make things worse, since we don’t know the actual risks of being in the light. **Staying Still Pros** • may blend in with the landscape / faces below. **Staying Still Cons** • leaves us vulnerable to the lantern creature and anything else around here we don’t yet know about that uses the lanterns’ light.

i think last time we ran we got our shoulder dislocated by a projectile rock so maybe we should not do that 😂

Not much to work with for this one, but I guess: 1. If I ran across a bear, a lion, a wild dog, or a particularly deranged goose, I wouldn’t run. Both a bear or an eldritch monster would equally outrun a human, and would leave us equally dead, even if one’s more powerful than the other — so stillness is the only established precedent if we wanted to go by precedents. We’ve already been exposed to the light, so if it was going to melt Arthur’s brains or whatever, that ship may have sailed and I’m not gonna bother worrying about it or base my decision on this possibility. 2. Arthur is crouched, covered in dark brown liquid, and the creature doesn’t seem to notice or disturb the half-buried people in the mud. Maybe it can’t detect what doesn’t move. Or maybe it put them there. Either way, maybe Arthur, covered in dark brown liquid and having taken a walk in the bloody mud water, would fit in. 3. Running doesn’t seem reliable in this terrain. This is a maze of barbed wire, mud, people in the mud who might do unpredictable shit like grab our ankles and are generally tripping hazards, + metal ‘obstacles’ which is a pretty damning choice of words if intentional — anyways, it’s not a straight sprint to safety. We run, best case scenario: a) crash into the obstacles and hurt ourselves, or b) try to hide while fully visible from above to the 20 feet tall creature, or c) crash into another lantern’s radius.

something tells me we can't 8ball our way out of this one

TiredLilFella The Real One

TLDR 1: He ain’t fast enough to run 2: Arthur is dirty enough to pass as buried. 3: running in a maze full of traps is futile and dangerous.

lenore

Not that I think we could outrun it but I think we could get to the next trench and chill there

kammy

first time voting and it's so stressful but given that john quite literally says at the start they'll have to navigate slow and bc i've seen enough wwi movies where people try to run in and outside the trenches only to get blown to bits it's gotta be stay still and hope for the best ig 🙏

Nicky

They move between fields, so the trenches don’t seem to be obstacles or be a problem for them…

TiredLilFella The Real One

After the chapter summary: the light itself turned people into dirt but the creature left due to the bell distracting it.
