I was initially team open, but I have flipped to team Leave it Be. Good things come in threes. We've had Arthur's temptation, now this is John's. The third might be an even bigger whammy, but I doubt we'll get to see it if we cave now.

To start some loose points that have been said already 1. John said at the start of the chapter that they should leave things alone when they can choose too -we are literally given the choice here and I dont think we should make light of that fact 2. The manager has told us we need to let go - that might apply to this situation and in having us let go of this temptation 3. The dark world will test John and Arthur and in turn us with the polls - combined with that knowledge and the wording being identical to the previous poll this feels so much like a test 4. John was able to guide arthur out of his temptation to talk to the bone creature, now its arthurs turn help guide John out of this one (maybe in the next chapter they will have to lean on eachother to make the 'right' choice 5. THIS IS SO OBVIOUSLY A TRAP AND NOTHING GOOD OR INFORMATIONAL WILL COME FROM OPENING IT Now onto an idea that I've stewing on since yesterday in regards to this being a trap. This is mostly based on my own opinions but it stuck with for a while and bits of it have lingering in my mind since the poll dropped I genuinely that the name on the coffin is being used as it usually is in our world -as a placeholder- i belive that its use in thsi way is to lure people in who have been wholly consumed by grief (while the mourners here are most likely related to the dollmaker i fully standby this location being a bastion of grief I the DW) i think this location draws those deep in grief towards it with the use of a placeholder name to pull at any sense of hope that they can get closure over someone they might have known or loved in the real world that they lost. I belive that this is place that exists organically in the dark world as space for those whose deepest negative emotion or sense of turmoil is from their grief. However I the dollmaker has converted into a sort of trap where they can either harvest general parts or use it scope out those who are curious and therefore unique. In this scenario most of the mourners/those grieving who come to this wont open the coffin either because they don't want to or they don't want to risk breaking the illusion that it could be someone they loved. I think the coffin is empty and the dollmaker is using it to find people who have something more unique about them in the fact that they are curious enough to open it, and the dolls are there to serve as an alert of anyone who "breaks the norm" and opens it. It could also be that its isn't "John Doe" for everyone and through some DW shenanigans a significant name to each individual shown up on the coffin but either way my point still stands

Hoh man, I hope Lilith comes out of our boy’s glowy scar and saves our eager asses when we get mimic-jump-scared so hard if this vote doesn’t flip.

Hey, how about we leave this one be and see if we get the option again next time? Cause this is starting to look like a pattern and we need one more to be sure.

This is a very risky situation, and unlike last time, there are a lot of other people around that could swarm him if this is a trap. Please Leave it be!

MY FINAL MESSAGE EVEN THOUGH ITS HOPELESS AT THIS POINT: I’m voting to leave the coffin alone and this is why you should too. If you’re somebody who cares about John lore and believes we will get some sort of key information from this coffin, ask yourself why something related to John would be in this specific area that we have been told is inhabited by the Dollmaker? John states that he’s never heard of them. I would find it very strange we’d get something so related to him here. Also consider that these mourners are very likely dolls created by the Dollmaker - for example they are described as being shaped like clay to be “smooth by imperfect,” and have pincushion heads with oversized needles stuck into them. They are also capable of quick movement as John described the figures they see running past them, and they are also in possession of a strange throat sac that John likens to a bullfrog, an animal known for its loud calls. I’m certain that this is all the work of the Dollmaker and that disturbing this scene we would only get their attention. With these attributes I think they could very easily become dangerous if disturbed. Also, I can’t see any reason why John and Arthur should go against their word after they agreed with eachother that should leave things alone if they can help it. We’ve already had an example of that working with the bone grinder we avoided last chapter. I mean, come on, we’ve JUST John hint to some very damning implications about his time in the Dark World, and right after that, we see a big box with his name on it practically begging us to open it to learn more? I DO NOT trust like that. John Doe is a placeholder name. And on the off chance that this was intentionally created for John then it’s certainly a fucking trap!

Throwing in another tidbit here, for those who are opening the coffin simply for the sake of curiosity, consider also the fact that we have the opportunity to prove whether or not having a "leave it alone" option is simply a repeat or actually a pattern. Personally I'm more curious about this than whatever is in the coffin.

John just said to leave things alone when we can. "John Doe" is most likely indicating an unidentified body(used for doll parts?). /Our/ John doesn't even have a body and if there was an AU John with a body in that coffin then that's got nothing to do with us! Personally I think its empty and while we take the time to open it the Dollmaker will show up and attack. Let's keep moving

People who want to open it Id like to hear your reasoning (besides just curiosity). I feel it’s a trap and I’m not keen on Arthur getting carved up and used as doll parts XD. First time participating in a poll so i don’t really know how these typically go but I’m genuinely thrilled to be here!

Y'all chose to open it 😭 they are so cooked

Because I’d ‘regret’ not opening it more. Like if this were a movie I was watching, I’d be shouting at my screen ‘don’t open it! Don’t open it!’ But if they really did just leave it alone I’d feel so unsatisfied, almost robbed. But yeah usually these polls have people making arguments for and against and choosing based on what argument they’re most convinced by. Or instinctively preferring one option over the other, and then their opinion being cemented by whatever argument they read or come up with. The only other relevant thought I had on this poll was that opening the casket might just kickstart the funeral, rather than immediately start a free-for-all. But that’s not my reason for choosing to open the casket, just some thoughts. It’s the last season, and I guess I’d like to make a choice at least once like this, just to satisfy myself.

I am happy to say that my expectations built from years of cruel screenwriters have been spectacular subverted. I’ve cried multiple times in the few chapters. The only jump scares I’m worried about now are emotional ones. I literally yelled in my car when I heard John cry.
