Casual reminder that Matthew said Larson already left, and neither Arthur or John have even *seen* him before, we have no way to confirm who we are killing if we vote kill.

Sparing isn't always what we think it means and something needs to give for Arthur. This may break him but sometimes you need to rebreak a bone to set it right to heal

Michelle Larsen

I’d like to ask people to consider the fact that Larson already knew Arthur’s name, despite Arthur not telling him, and therefore probably knows more than he’s letting on and this may go worse than Arthur may be hoping, and more importantly that killing someone, especially in his current state of mind, feels like a really good way for Arthur to lose more pieces of himself.

There has been much debate about this vote on the discord, and I highly encourage everyone who isn't there with us to join! Harlan even weighed in on this one (that almost never happens)!! Personally I'd like to say that there's often no right choice, and Arthur's already broken so badly he might be beyond repair until he shatters completely. Only then can we maybe pick up the pieces. But I'd like to hope we can do it without further driving a wedge between him and John

This is a tough one. Changed my mind like 6 times, lol. Im afraid of a "what it seems is not what it is" situation in both paths. What seems obvious, or at least appeals to our desire of stopping the mad hunt goes so against the character... I can't imagine an scenario where the "no" brings that conversation or mutual understanding that is so needed, only more pressure and tension. I choose to trust that Arthur needs to hit the bottom, let's give him the opportunity to do what he wants so badly and hope that that last breaking point shakes him enough. A tie is the worst, that at least is sure. The coin does not have to land on the side...

Arthur can't lose any more of himself. It'll probably bite us later but I'm voting Don’t Kill.

ctrl+v from my discord ramble: I just think killing is also a trap like..... -"hes not here" either means Larson is no longer... human. (Just a vessel for someone or something else?) Is he even killable? Will he stand up, blood oozing slowly and abnormally and just laugh? -what if Arthur kills someone innocent in the dark of the room? John doesn't know who Larson is, and doesn't hold Yellow's description of him... -what if no one is there at all and Arthur is met with foul remorse and made to face his decisions (or not...)

Heather Nichols

The question Harlan brought up in the discord is which option will pull Arthur and John further apart. Is voting to spare going cause Arthur to resent John more? Vote kill let Arthur break and hit rock bottom and then John can help him back up

Ellie Smith

I think voting to kill here would be a sort of point of no return for Arthur. I think something has to give

Magpie

Sometimes if a character talks about killing another character for several chapters in a row, you just have to let that character commit a murder.

Adrien Estock

I just don't want to see Arthur take his repressed rage out on John instead. I feel like continuing to let him boil with this is actually just going to make him worse, not better. He needs to make mistakes, and I think he's ultimately going to kill Larson regardless of what we vote... I'd rather just crack that egg open right now, instead of letting him languish in it and get more angry at John in the process

Killing Larson might be the smart thing, sure. It’s what a survivor would do. It probably will save lives, if everything is what it seems. But the things that have brought John and Arthur so far have been the stupid decisions, the ones made out of kindness. The banshee might have hurt others, but instead she saved their lives. The voice in the pit might have been manipulating them, but he helped them escape. And when Arthur approaches someone as an obstacle, a means to an end…well, look at how his relationship with Yellow developed compared to his relationship with John. Look how many times Arthur and Yellow have saved each other compared to Arthur and John.Killing Larson might be the smart thing. He probably deserves it. But in the end, this decision isn’t really about Larson at all.

Jay Mac

I Really think that but this would be the point of no return for Arthur. He has always spoken about his humanity And how it was one of his defining features. It really seems that he is on the path to losing his humanity at this point and I don't like it. I would like to see Arthur have a change of heart and decide to decide to not kill him.

Adrien Estock

I don't think 'sparing' Larson will bring John and Arthur closer together though. Not only did Harlan say we don't actually understand what that option really means, but imo it's more likely than not just going to make Arthur more angry, more hateful and spiteful, and more likely to turn his back on John and the kindness in him. Arthur isn't in a place he can be reasoned with, he's in a place where his only choices are do something really stupid now or do something *enormously* stupid later after his hated further builds (and breaking his bond with John more in the process)

Watching this go back and forth one vote at a time between a one or another or a tie is TORTURE.

Dani Ruggeri

I cannot stop the fingers and comment again: fellows! This time the choice is to kill! This is about the narrative: it needs to see this through. It may not mean an actual kill, but if it is, even if it is someone that is not Larson, yeah, that may be fictional inocent blood and I'm not afraid to have it on my click as voting: going against the current of the character so extremely will have worst consequences. The fear of a tie can swing the vote towards a "safer" option. Fellows! Let's not be tempted! This is the time to choose to kill! (* hangs a 40s poster of Arthur with the words "we can do it!")

Puzzleglum

Also consider that if we don't choose kill, Arthur's murderous intent and anger is very likely to be redirected to John. And listening to John doesn't always work out well either. It's time for Arthur to make a choice and learn from the consequences on his own, without being able to blame and shift responsibility to John afterwards.

Does someone have a link for the discord?

Last Ruth on the Left

I LOVE the discussion this poll has sparked! The thought behind people's choices almost makes me feel bad for having the mentality of "I crave violence and chaos, so, kill it is!"

Isabelle Sharp

If Larson doesn’t actually happen to be there, it would be so interesting to see how that plays out given the current sway of the vote (kill) Though the whole thing from the discord with “‘sparing’ isn’t what you think it means” has me very concerned about what that could mean, so of course I initially voted “don’t kill” but. OUGH I am one of the most indecisive people ever —> I am SO conflicted and I love(?) it tldr: currently considering swapping my vote over to kill bc of everyone’s incredible points and speculation lolsies

Unorthofox

“[The decision to kill] is one that takes a toll on the mind, no one takes a life and is unscathed by the knowledge.” I’m bracing for Arthur to lose control of either the rest of his leg or arm. No matter which way the vote goes it’s going to be grotesque. To be fair, it feels like John is the more human of the two.

Ink Paperdream

😭 wish one of the options was "kill but use your words" 😭 I think John would be much more on-side if he knew Larson hit Arthur right in the trauma re: dead daughters... but I don't think Arthur CAN articulate that without serious prompting

Lars

For those who are new- he poll is over Sunday night/first thing Monday morning.
