Sever the tendrils so we can learn more about the people! Edit: also, Arthur not going to die or get seriously injured so soon

Spama

keep in mind that arthur is half dead at this point and the beastie getting the drop on him again might make him fully dead this time. the element of surprise is a hell of a drug and can make or break this encounter

Melanie Schoen

We won't learn anything about them if the creature is alerted and mows them down like it did Lipless Friend D:

Puzzleglum

I'm worried if we kill the creature first, it could also kill everyone attached to it. Take everyone down with it as it dies. If we sever the tendrils first there may be more survivors, AND it might be the more interesting option in terms of narrative. There's a lot that could go right OR wrong there, there's more elements at play. But either way we have the advantage of finally being able to SEE this creature, and we have a way to kill it. That has to count for something!

Unorthofox

Just don’t let this end in a tie… It’s ended badly before and this is already too close for comfort.

Puzzleglum

Yeah exactly, please folks, ANYTHING but a tie. Ties are ALWAYS the worst outcome.

Tama Connatser

Gonna post my two cents here. Tactically speaking, following the tendrils and a sneak attack will be best to help Arthur survive. Well a more guaranteed survival. He has just come back from the brink of death. He needs all of the advantages he can get. Plus the voices are telling him how to kill it. This may very well free them all at once. Be it through their death or actual freedom.

ALSO you’d have people to help cut the other tendrils and fight the monster. Arthur isn’t the only guy on earth and the creature and cultist earlier were both entirely willing to help and didn’t try and hurt us

Syndromia

Yes, but then he's fighting alone. If he severs the tendrils he has potential allies or potential distractions for the creature.

Puzzleglum

Harlan has stirred the pot, people! Whooooo!!

Scottie

I want to save the cultists too but let's not lose sight of who we really need to protect.

Had a fun talk with my mum, and I agree with her, which one of this choices will bring the most intense, weird situation possible? We already saw that "sneak attack" situation with Uncle and was so narratively good! Now, we never got a situation quite like this of "cut the tendrils". For sure the soundscaping and the scene will be awesome. Another point my mother made: we really don't know what could bring the killing of the monster while mantaining the conexion, yeah, maybe they all die, maybe they get liberated or maybe... something shifts between the monster an the prisioners and something gets transfered... we don't know exactly how this magic works, we know that if we cut they get free and that it can alert and lure the monster. Both choices have problems (and problems is what we want!) I say "Let's choose the scariest one and the more strange to us", and that is to me, cuting the tendrils.

Puzzleglum

It's very likely that Arthur will get hurt with both options, honestly! That's why I'd rather pick the option with more elements at play for the narrative, the Weirder option, so to speak. But yes that is a fair concern.

If Rafters (RIP) taught us anything, it's that we need to use every possible advantage against this thing. The other folks clearly want it just as dead as Arthur does. Even cutting two or three people loose gives us the option of having others to help distract/attack the creature. If it really IS fragile once you can see it, then it might be best to risk freeing a few people, even as a distraction, so that Arthur can get the jump on this thing. He's basically too weak for anything but an ambush, but trying to rush blindly in has already been a disaster once. Learn from the past, I say!

Drake Parker

Voting sever. An ambush is probably safer but I just can't take the risk that the cultists all die with the creature if they're still attached. It's true that sparing Rafters last time didn't work out but I still don't believe it was the wrong choice - sometimes upholding an ideal is just difficult and doesn't go the way you want it to, but you still gotta do it. Plus he remembers the flute now! Maybe with the help of rescued friends he can have the flute playing while he severs?

Jackie C.

Im voting sever specifically because of the remark John made about playing a numbers game. Having potential allies is good. If we just follow the tendrils, we are going to pass the people anyway and we dont know where the creature will be when we find it. If the creature comes to us at least we know where the fight will be

Spama

see id agree that having allies is good, except these dudes are unarmed, cant see the beastie and im scared they could also get mind-controlled into attacking us if the beastie notices us cutting them out. so i think getting ganked by the critter would very much suck for us rn

Renee R

Voting sever. We have the flute, and I don't want to risk the cultists dying when the creature does.

Luchaos

God don't let it be a tie

Puzzleglum

Sever is currently in the lead so let's try to avoid a tie, folks!!

Danii

Arthur taking it on two on one hasn't gone well so far so having other people free will weaken it and split it's focus. Add onto that we have no idea of people will die if they're still connected when it dies, whether it'll send those people to try and kill our boys, or what? Just seems all together a better idea.
