I feel with knocking it’s more likely that Daniel will be able to tell who it is ahead of time since people can have a distinctive knock but are less likely to have a distinctive ring. Ringing also feels like a step removed from this and I feel like Arthur should be directly contacting him since this seems to be more of a personality test or something than anything. On the other hand there’s a chance depending on where he is in the house he won’t hear it in which case ringing would be the better option. It might also be considered rude to knock when there’s something else put in by the door

I'm fully convinced that if we doorbell, someone is going to be inside literally killing Daniel and they'll know we are here. But if we knock, we might have a chance to hear them before they hear us which could give us an advantage. I mean, the Butcher might know Daniel is related to Arthur, even if not by blood, so he might be here trying to hunt down Arthur. Or I am ~paranoid~ lololol

Okay, I'm not overthinking this, too little contest to make a meaningful decision. I'm jumping full on on the absurdist train and finalising my vote for knock because I've just had confirmed that "Shave and an haircut" was a thing in the 30s, and I live in hope that Arthur is going to use that style of knocking.

I think there could be something going on inside the house that would cause Daniel to miss a knock and thus give us a chance to eavesdrop. Ringing the doorbell will give us away with certainty.
