Despite what people have been saying in the previous part's comments, I voted to go alone ahead. I think John and Arthur need time to talk, and John to show he can be trusted, or else it'll come back to bite them when it really matters.

Teakettle

Don't split the party is an age old word of wisdom that I intend to follow.

Teakettle

Point is, I'm quite sure John can't be trusted at this particular moment in time.

Jen Widmer

Oscar was seeming a little sus in that episode. I don't trust him alone anymore. Too eager.

Ellanor Milkowski Dahlgren

Yeah I'm interested in as much outside help as possible. This couple has become waaay to codependent and its bordering on toxic. We need to hang back and gather ourselves and not rush into battle as we so often do.

Aebriel

I'm voting to wait for Oscar and not split the party for now, but I did have a dream where that resulted in Larson finding us, so we'll see if I change my mind or not

Amy

I flipped to Go Ahead Alobe because a) there’s a clock, and b) whatever’s going on with John he needs to know that Arthur’s got his back (also John is my Favorite Boy and I want him to be happy)

BeastlyDeath

While I don't think John is doing anything intentional and we should tell him that it's not that we don't trust him, we just need to be sure and certain on what we may find in the book. A life is on the line and we need all the help we can get

S

I’ma vote go solo with John also - originally thought bringing Oscar was better, and strategically that does probably make more sense - but I also feel like whatever’s wrong with John/secrets is not necessarily malicious - and talking when not *immediately* about to die always nice lol 👍 - sad for their trust erosion ☹️

Alexis

Yeah that’s why I’m voting alone. They definitely need time to talk about what’s going on before the two’s relationship fractures more. The whole reason we went to New York was because he trusted John. Yes he’s not greatly reliable to be our eyes, but it’s not from malicious intent. It’d also be really telling of his motives and what’s going on with him based on how he answers Arthur’s prodding. Whether he’s not telling because he’s bound to secrecy or from something else. It’d also be great if Arthur can get John to be more comfortable and ok with having outside help.

HakureiRyuu

if the option is waiting for Oscar to get back, doesn't that also give them alone time? just at Marie's instead of this new place. potentially actually focusing on the conversation instead of chatting in between clue hunting.

Dipity

Crossposting from discord but here's some arguments for team #headstart: 1) trusting John with something he hasn't shown Explicit onscreen difficulty with yet (reading and general navigation) 2) head start on a time-sensitive investigation (we only have until Arthur needs to sleep and it's already evening) 3) avoiding Larson (he knows about Daniel's house and the hospital and might look there for arthur but presumably not the haunted house) 4) avoiding exposing Oscar to extra eldritch shit unduly (knowledge = they know about you too) + the fact that Oscar seemed maybe Weirdly interested in seeing the book? 5) Arthur may have more freedom of movement for the initial investigation without Oscar around 6) more time to talk freely with John 7) "don't split the party" applies less often to horror stories and more people in a group could mean more ways to get killed or drawing more attention 8) i wanna see a spooky house

Igor

While I’m concerned about John - and I believe that John and Arthur DO need to talk - the problem is we might not have time for that. John has already proven semi-reliable and despite Arthur’s attempts - unresponsive on that matter. So who knows what could happen if he is in such denial. Better have a second set of eyes and ears - and Oscar is VERY capable, so there’s that. Let’s get rid of an immediate danger of Scratch - then we will talk to John

Fisher

i want to read this book so fucking bad you guys and i think the only way we’d be able to really do a deep dive i to it is with oscar. john can deal with it!!!

Scottie

Im gonna trust Oscar with the book and vote for the boys to head out.

HakureiRyuu

my friend, they are codependent by design and have been explicitly toxic from the start. it's only within the past in-game WEEK that they've started to settle into something a little healthier, despite the circumstances. all that to say yes, I agree they need some outside influences besides each other. but if/when they backslide into old habits it could be very far back indeed.

Jeanette

I keep switching between the two.. but I think going alone kills two birds with one stone! Trust John by going alone and show Oscar trust by leaving him with the book.

Nicky

I don’t think Oscar cares if Arthur trusts him. Also, I’m pretty sure leaving without him means we won’t actually get the opportunity to learn anything useful from the book, and there’s a chance Arthur don’t actually get to meet back up with him at all.

Fisher

the symbol found in Marie’s secret room that matches one of the symbols on our bestiary is almost certainly the symbol of Hypnos. this means getting a thorough look at the book’s contents with Oscar could very likely give us a lot of helpful information about Scratch. Arthur also still has a Crystallizer of Dreams, which are artifacts specifically imbued with Hypnos’ power that allow transport to alternate planes (like the Dark World). ergo, if we look into the book with Oscar and uncover this information, we may end up being able to formulate a plan to use the Crystallizer against Scratch. I don’t think we’ll be able to get as deep into the bestiary on our own, and this may actually be the only way we could destroy Scratch.

Posting from my argument in discord: Here's the other thing: there have been quite a few parallels drawn between John now and Arthur in season 3. And one vote that was so so important in season 3 was trusting Arthur in his pursuit of blood. Word of God, if John had refused, that anger would have been redirected at him later on. Right now, John is insistent against Arthurs knowledge and his own that everything is fine. Last season Arthur knew he was making a mistake, but needed to see it through. John knows something is wrong with himself. I don't see how he could be unaware, given his trademark lashing out about something he doesn't want to talk about. John exists for Arthur, he sounded so hurt when Arthur wouldn't trust him to read the book because he wants to prove he is still helpful. I think we need to let John take the lead in this investigation over Oscar or we are just going to redirect his anger and frustrations at Arthur

Lambda

We are already going to work with Oscar, it's just a matter of how. Oscar was the one to suggest we go on ahead in fact, and I think doing so will help ease John into the idea of working with other people and offer him more stability in his relationship with Arthur

Oakland

reasons why going ahead is good: -it'll let us scope out the house faster which will make potential threats to both us and oscar known more quickly -it'll help john's emotional state, which will make him more reliable -it'll let oscar be backup should we need him -it'll let us focus properly on any confrontation that arises rather than trying to protect oscar -reading the book can be a one-person task and will ultimately let us make connections faster than we would by trying to remember everything on our own (which would be difficult because of john's current situation) -arthur has gained more experience in (semi) solo investigations of places in the last few months than he would've had prior, he can handle himself looking into the house to summarize, imo, we get more out of going ahead than we do by waiting. waiting may be immediately safer for oscar's sanity points, but it will mean both us and oscar are going into the house without a clue what we're facing

Aebriel

Hello, I am here to advocate for flipping to going ahead alone

Aebriel

Please, consider, that narratively we would be sticking to our guns with some of the big themes of this season: momentum, and trust

Aebriel

Momentum is pretty self explanatory, but it was a big selling point for a notable recent past poll. Namely choosing to search the hospital for Daniel ourselves. That was the right call then, and I think with this time limit imposed by not just Scratch's stone in our pocket, but also the fact that Larson is likely nearby searching for us, staying on the move is wiser

Aebriel

ANYWAY Trust has been very important as well. Oscar himself suggested that we go ahead, so by going without him we're showing that we trust him, we're also placing a lot of trust in John.

Aebriel

this might not be the most logically sound choice, but our choices affect the morals that John (and also Arthur really) are learning and reaffirming for themselves

Aebriel

We know that John is not reliable right now, and we know that we could be wrong to trust that Oscar will even show up to the house. But by choosing to go ahead we're having Arthur place his faith in other people, which narratively feels far more Right to me.

Aebriel

also think of the fun possibilities! We could end up in some sort of dangerous situation and that would open up a perfect opportunity for our new buddy Oscar to get to be badass again!

Murmuruk

I do feel like we-well, ok, Arthur, is going to loose John if we insist on hanging on to Oscar like this. I feel like being present for Arthur rn is dependent on John actively doing something that costs him to stick around, and he will decide to stop if Arthur continues to insist John is not trustworthy/helpful, (he / is/ hiding stuff but I think John truly believes it's for a good cause). Arthur now has other people around who are willing to help him, Arthur causes John of being unreliable and a hindrance, John is feeling hurt and insecure. Arthur went back to talking about murdering those who deserve it (you cannot convince me John wasn't thinking in that conversation how /he/ is by far a being who'd be deemed as irredeemable by most. And, maybe now that his survival isn't dependent on John, Arthur can go back to admitting this is what he believes too

Murmuruk

Also if Oscar isn't with our guys, he might be saved from being scratched. I don't want that betrayal for him

Courtney Wathne

I'm scared for where this is headed. We're so close to a tie.

Argus Maurelius

Yeah, Oscar sounds a little flighty now that he's seen the book. better keep him within arm's reach.

Jeanette

It wasn’t about Oscar. It was about Arthur trusting Oscar lol. Oscar doesn’t know what Arthur has been through, this is all about Arthur *trusting* in people.

Alexi

the only thing im worried about is that oscar will be corrupted by arcane knowledge while we are not there but ultimately i feel like time is WAY more important rn. but i know i already missed the vote lol guess we will see
