No indecisions for me this week, I am committing to the path completely and telling Oscar about the stone.

Flamia

The more Oscar knows about Scratch's fuckery, the better equipped he will be to defend himself.

I had a strong opinion for the last vote but this one?? No idea. I think I will read other’s arguments and decide based on that 🙈

Jeanette

The more the merrier - also since he’s helping Arthur (&John) I think he deserves to know about the stone!

Honestly, I don’t want to drive a bigger rift between John and Arthur

Nicky

Are you in the Discord poll chat? Always lots of discussion and debate there

Nicky

Those voting “Don’t Tell” - would love to get your voice in the Discord poll chat/here. My current thoughts Tell Oscar Pro • he can make informed decisions • it could be significant information in terms of book research/overall info available to figure out solving the Scratch problem • he might willingly take the stone to allow Arthur to sleep (do shifts of custody or accept possession) Tell Oscar Con • he might freak out • John’s mental health Don’t Tell Pro • one less thing for John to be upset about • preserve some of Oscar’s “piece of mind” Don’t Tell Con • keeping relevant info from a likely ally could negatively impact chances of success dealing with Scratch • morally questionable to keep Oscar in the dark

Phoebe

I think telling Oscar about the stone is going to have a whole suite of negative consequences, from aggravating John and Arthur's current tension to risking some esoteric eldritch nonsense befalling Arthur, but unfortunately it is also the morally correct thing to do, so.

This is such a mess, I love it. Let's make it messier

You know before this chapter i would have been all decided to tell Oscar. I don't want Arthur to betray him like that by just slipping him the stone. But given how things are playing out I don't know. Oscar is feeling overwhelmed as is. he was looking to get liquored up already. Don't know what this new revelation will do to him. Especially as the way Arthur is riled up rn he might ehm, lack the soft touch needed. And it will continue down the path of antagonizing John.

Alexi

i dont trust oscar (still) but tbh i would RATHER they not give him the stone so telling him would make that more difficult lmao

Fisher

We owe it to Oscar. I think he’d be grateful to know the truth, and in the event that we can’t find a way to defeat Scratch, we hopefully won’t be forced to trick or force the stone on Oscar.

Amy

I didn’t think of that, but yeah! They can take turns “possessing” the stone so they can sleep

Jess

I think John is lying about the keys (if not other stuff.) When Arthur calls him on it, he acts flustered and guilty. The only consequence of that lie would be either slowing down or preventing Arthur from getting to the house in White Planes. So, what could John know about the house in White Planes that he'd want to keep Arthur away? And, at a time when Arthur's trust is so important, why risk it with a lie? Then I realized I'd been forgetting something big that could explain some of John's behavior. He knows something Arthur doesn't. He knows the real reason they're in NYC, what they're there to do, and that, whatever it is, it's something Arthur wouldn't do if he knew the full story. So, I can think of two reasons John might lie. (1) Something in the house would reveal John's part in the deal or something else that Arthur would have a hard time forgiving or (2) something in the house is related to the deal and John is lying to protect Arthur from the consequences the only way he can, since he can't actually tell Arthur what's coming. Either way, I think John has a better chance of knowing what the hell is going on and I think we should listen to him until we find out more.

Murmuruk

I'm glad it looks like we won't lie to our new friend kinda sad we are massively unlikely to learn anything useful from the sanity destroying book now (Oscar takes all the possible sanity hits this chapter). SOMEONE'S getting scratched but maybe if Oscar survives this, Arthur will still have a friend

Nicky

I don’t think it’s necessarily a given that anyone is going to get scratched. I hold out hope/optimism for finding a solution

Erik

One detail I keep pondering is how John's perception of the house was of a primordial darkness festering all around it. A minor addition to that is when Arthur and John first looked over their newly rented room, John complained of some impossible spatial geometry towards one end of the room... As to why no bigger deal was made of it, I think discovering the blood-soaked turned-over mattress understandably distracted from that.
