Well hello friends...

It's been a wild ride toward Season 5. From the Butcher, to Marie, Daniel and Oscar... to revelations and retaliations. Season 4 was a lot of things I wanted to play with in the world of Malevolent. I wanted to see more characters interact with Arthur and the Entity within, I wanted to see Arthur get to flex his detective mind in an environment where he wasn't always fighting against the unknown beyond his walls.

I'm extremely proud of Season 4 and the themes it delved into... but now... something... different.

Some of you may know that I've spoken about Season 5 as a turning point for many fans, where I'd lose perhaps many people as the story gets, well... weirder. For me - it's always been envisioned this way so it doesn't feel weird at all, but for those wondering "What. The. Fuck" after this chapter... sit back and enjoy the ride.

I promise it'll be a wild one.

Wild is the perfect word for what I envision this season as. Season 5 will dive back into fantasy, horror, the things beyond the pale and a great deal of what Season 2 brought us... so despite it's left turn, I hope you stick around.

As always, thank you so much. All of this is possible thanks to you.

Thanks,
Harlan

Adam Frey

The work is amazing 👏 thank for for all the work you put into this project and dice shame

Rabid’n’Cheez

Kayne is so absolutely downright diabolical. I love it.

Buttercup

Fantastic and fascinating! Amazing work, Harlan! I have so many thoughts.

Ace Hazel

Oh, this IS different. And I am stoked. (Also, the piano metaphor was Really good, love that.)

K8

Yeah yeah yeah!! Put those European dialects to good use! I for one am a huge fucking fan of this development. And the drive by of Parker's corpse!

grackle

Whoa, the revelations!!!! Really intrigued by how this change in setting will play out.

Tyeler Benson

Harlan, you’re 1 in a billion my friend. You have such a brilliant and clever mind, and there’s not a single other podcast out there that—throughout the whole story thus far—is able to grab the listener by their soul and make them go through such an emotional journey—from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows and everywhere in between. And on top of that, the energy from your incredible acting perfectly shapes the overall tone and/or mood for each scene, making the listener feel like they’re right there in the story. This has been such a wild ride of a story so far, and I can’t wait to see what the future brings. Thanks!

nerdfaerie

Oh, I am so HYPED for the next season! It's going to be a ride, I can tell. PS: John Doe, you are grounded. Go sit in the time-out corner and think about what you've done.

Amy

Ohhh I think the boys are gonna have to go back to couples counseling…

plantcreature

My only thought after listening to this literally was “what the fuck” but also in the best possible way. I’m so excited to see where this goes!!

cat of ulthar

Harlan, this is amazing! I found you on spotify, and I was surprised on how you did everything yourself while still having high quality / storytelling. Probably doesn’t mean much from a stranger on the internet, but know we’re proud of you - and once again, my head is reeling with w.t.f, and i have 17 new theories 😭

SeerOfTime

Kayne has TRULY earned his title as overarching antagonist. GOSH. I love him so much, yet have never been more terrified of him.

SoapCarver

Parents: Brings out the embarrassing baby photos. Kayne: I'll do you one better!

Megs

Oh wow, we are getting spoiled with all these treats! This is gunna be fun!

Positive

"EUGH, every time you pronounce that name" Kayne 🤝 Polish people. Thank you, Nyarly, you get it. (for legal reasons this is an affectionate joke)

Positive

Eyyy fellow premie Arthur! Evicted ahead of his time.

Wondersmith

Getting this right after I went back and listened to the old Call of Cthulhu games for the first time was perfect timing, holy shit. I am absolutely REELING from how you've woven everything together here (and absolutely petrified of what's in store, in the best way!)

Alasdair Thanisch

ENG-GE-LAND!! ARTHUR'S COMING HOME, HE'S COMING HOME... 🥳🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏆 oh shit, its 1271...

Danii

Oh no, sir. This is the shit I'm into. What's a campaign if you don't wreck the entire fabric of everything that is?! I'm here for it! /straps in

MomoTheMoogle

I am beyond excited to see where this goes!!!

Danii

...also how did you know Army of Darkness was one of my favorite movies ^_^

Domi

Foaming at the mouth for season 5!

Piper

WHAT!!!

Eileen

Can't wait!!!

Diaphane, goddess of Slinky Lingerie

My favourite part of this episode is the radio static at the end, because Harlan knew we were just going to sit here mind-blown and reeling, until he reminds us to turn it off. It's just such a beautiful blank horror; you don't know whether to listen to it again, make a string board of all of the foreshadowing, or dig out your Cthulhu Dark Ages books. And between this and the virtuosity of ep. 200, this is some of your best voice work yet. Thank you.

Vai Russ

Rip John, have fun dealing with those consequences buddy...

Raven Fritz

This is... INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!

Marvin Tanner

Bring it on. Weird ande are old friends

GPTC

Couple counseling round 100!!!!!!!!!! Oh john what have you done

endergummi

sooooooo, if I put my phone number in these comments, Kayne would see it, right? he should call me-- (I mean what)

Amanda Nicole

WHAT. I repeat, WHAT?! Kayne, I both love and hate you right now. What in the DDLC world-of-infinite-choices fuckery is this? This is a veritable work of audio art. And John, you're in for it now. I'll go fetch the couples' counselor now :)

Amy

Also important to remember - WE CANNOT TRUST KAYNE

Drake

I'm.. so intrigued by this multi universe bullshittery. I still hate Kayne..

ClockworkPhoenix

OH MY GOD. KAYNE! AND THE FAROE PARTS AND LORE DROPS AND JOHN TELLING KAYNE TO MAKE ARTHUR FORGET! HOLY SHIT! THIS IS SO GOOD THIS IS SO GOOD! AAAAAAAAA

Krasta

Love every piece of this to bits!! Apparently Kayne is even crazier than I thought was possible, somehow. The piano metaphor was super slick - I'd had a small 'oh god its the multiverse thing again' when Kayne first mentioned it, but I'm totally digging your take on it! Season 5 is gonna be a blast - will we get to hear some Old English?

SavageIvyy

My husband and I have a bit of a theory on what happened to Shub-Niggrath. She's not dead. She's just broken up into pieces like the king was. Just a bunch of very tiny pieces. Very early on when they read her book Arthur sees the black goat and it sees him. This isn't a mural or a memory. I don't think Kayne is lying about her being dead, I think he was watching a big cup and ball game unfolding and he lost the ball (her). Then when he went to where she would be, she was gone. But there was so much happening during that ritual I think he just lost sight of her and assumed she was dead. But what happened to the KiY? He was split apart. We think the same happened to her, just many many smaller fragments all in that single reality. And we feel that it checks out considering Kayne did the opposite to be one singular being, taking all iterations of himself and effectively cannibalizing them back into one being.

SavageIvyy

This would bleed over into why Kayne can't see Arthur's future (aside from the fact that he can't see past the 4th wall). Arthur's future was determined by contact with Shub-Niggurath, and now all of that is screwy

Amy Beck

Yes! And Kayne’s insane laughter! I think it is the best insane laugh in all the world.
